This brassy techno medley contains remixes of the overworld theme and beach theme from Super Mario 3D Land, as well as a brief portion of the overworld theme from Super Mario Bros.; this part is played in the same pitch as the "Retro Mario" theme from Super Mario 3D Land. When played on 3D Land, the music syncs up to the level's various transformations; however, if played on the same stage in its Ω or Battlefield forms, the "Ground Theme" portion of the track will loop forever, instead of switching to the "Underwater Theme" portion of the track.

A jazzy synth rock remix of the athletic and ground theme from New Super Mario Bros. 2. Despite what the name implies, this is a medley of the reoccuring "Athletic" and "Ground" themes from the general New Super Mario Bros. series (minus New Super Mario Bros. U); the song's name refers to their usage in New Super Mario Bros. 2 to correlate with Golden Plains, the stage it plays on. While the Ground theme and Athletic theme usually share the same general melody and chord progression, they differ in instrumentation and refrains; the remix in Smash is mostly based on the Athletic theme, while including both of the refrains from the Athletic and Ground theme.

This track is a remix of various themes from Mario Paint: in order, "Title Theme", "Opening Demo 1 (Kung-Fu Men)", "Gnat Attack Phase 1", "Save & Load (Data Robot)", "BGM 2 (Monkey Song)", and finally a combination of "BGM 1 (Creative Exercise)" & "Letter P". The sneeze sample that occasionally plays while no music is selected can be heard during the transition to "Gnat Attack Phase 1". The track is mostly in an acoustic hot club jazz style, but the final portion of the song uses sounds directly from the composer mode of Mario Paint.

Trivia
- Ground Theme 2 (Super Mario Bros.) is the only Mario track from previous entries to not return in Ultimate.
- Despite Yoshi's Island (Melee) originating from a Mario game (in this case, Super Mario World), the game considers it as belonging to the Yoshi universe. As such, no tracks from the Mario games can be played on the stage except for Athletic Theme - Super Mario World, which is listed in the Yoshi series tracklist due to being its original assigned song.
- Although "Jump Up, Super Star!" has an official Japanese translation, the Japanese release of Ultimate only includes the English version. This is consistent with the Japanese release of Super Mario Odyssey, where the New Donk City Festival likewise features "Jump Up, Super Star!" in English. This is also true with the song "Break Free (Lead the Way)".
- The original Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros. 3) is not available as an independent music option, unlike its three counterparts in Ground Theme - Super Mario series. This was not the case in Smash 4 and appears to be an oversight.
- Two music tracks hailing from the Mario series appear in Mii Fighter showcase videos, but don't appear in-game.
- "Two Worlds Collide" from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle plays in the Rabbid reveal.
- "Beware the Forest's Mushrooms" from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars plays in the Geno reveal.
- This is the first game since the original where the Mario series does not have more original tracks than any other series.
- When sorting the songs in My Music by year, the placement of Mario Tennis / Mario Golf is based on the original Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games, which released in 1999 and 2000 respectively, rather than the source games, Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour.
- This is the first game in the Super Smash Bros. series to not feature a brand new arrangement of the main theme from Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. is one of four universes in Ultimate to feature songs from pre-release material, with the other three being The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Kingdom Hearts.
