The music track returns in Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Tour. In early soundtracks, this song was known as "Circuit" or "Circuit Select" and later on as "3 Raceways/Wario Stadium", but in Smash, it only names the first race course it plays on, "Luigi Raceway", which in Brawl was named "Luigi Circuit", a literal translation of the race course's name, but was corrected in SSB4 following the Mario Kart 64 localization of naming a Circuit a Raceway.

The Cloudtop Cruise theme itself contains a remix of the Gusty Garden Galaxy theme from Super Mario Galaxy. This song is rearranged by its original composer, Atsuko Asahi. Unlike the original, however, the second half includes a breakdown not found in the original and ends with a newly composed bridge and restarts rather than properly looping.
