Hungrybox is a | Hungrybox is a smasher from Buenos Aires, Argentina who currently resides in Orlando, Florida. Known as a Jigglypuff player across multiple Super Smash Bros. titles, he is best known for his career in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and is often considered one of the greatest Melee players of all time. He is one of "the Five Gods" of Melee, is the greatest Jigglypuff player of all time, and holds the most major wins in Melee. He was especially infamous for his sheer dominance in the competitive scene as the best player in the world from 2017 to 2019 and for his near-10-year streak where, after The Big House 4 in October 2014, he placed top 8 at every offline event he attended until Tipped Off 15: Connected in June 2024. He is also one half of the "Plupbox" duo (along with Plup), which is considered to be one of the greatest Melee doubles teams of all time.
Hungrybox is also known for being the best Project M Jigglypuff player, notably winning the first Project M major at MELEE-FC10R Legacy. In addition, he has found some success in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where he is considered one of the best Jigglypuff players in North America. He is best known in Ultimate for winning the Jigglypuff ditto against BassMage at Lost Tech City 2022, and has also defeated RFang at Frostbite 2020 and omega at CEO 2023.
He was one of the smashers to be sponsored by Team Curse before it eventually merged with Team Liquid, being picked up by said team on April 17th, 2014. Hungrybox was also previously sponsored by CLASH Tournaments.
Outside of competition, Hungrybox is one of the most popular Smash streamers and content creators on Twitch and YouTube, with over 500,000 subscribers on the latter platform. He is also the host for the online tournament series The Box, hosting its current iteration The Coinbox for both Melee and Ultimate.

===Early career and becoming a God===
Hungrybox's first Melee events were at free-for-all events, which he attended alongside his friend Crunch, before he began attending double-elimination events in 2007. Beginning as a Ness player, Hungrybox eventually swapped to Jigglypuff, inspired by a moment when he watched his brother land a Rest in Smash 64. Within months, he was already placing in the money, with his first money placement being at Twilight Showdown 6, where he placed 3rd. He continued to place in the money at monthlies and placed well at regionals for the rest of the year and into the new year. His most notable performance during this time took place at Event 52: Kansas, where he four-stocked Mew2King, then considered one of the best players in the world, in a money match, though he ultimately lost the match. Nevertheless, Hungrybox eventually became one of the best Smash players in Florida.
2009 became the year that established Hungrybox as a top player. He made his first major appearance at Revival of Melee in March, where he lost to PC Chris in winners' bracket but defeated KoreanDJ in losers' bracket to make it to losers' top 8, before losing to ChuDat to place 7th. His breakout event, however, took place a few months later at GENESIS. After losing to Mango early, Hungrybox swept the Losers bracket, defeating many notable players including Darc, DaShizWiz, Darkrain 2-1, Scar 2-0, and finally Zhu 3-2 in losers' semis before losing to Mango 0-3 to place 3rd. Hungrybox then surpassed this performance within a few months by winning Revival of Melee 2, defeating Hax 2-0, Cactuar 2-0, Kage, and Dr. PeePee 3-1 twice, and claiming the first major win of his career. These three results especially established Hungrybox as one of the fastest-rising players in competitive play, as he was able to establish himself as one of the era's best players within the span of a year, alongside Armada, Mango, and Mew2King. With Dr. PeePee's rise to join their ranks in the following year, the five players eventually dominated competitive play for the next several years, and as such were referred to as the Five Gods of Melee.
Hungrybox | Hungrybox's career hit a career highlight in the following year, where he made Grand Finals at every single event he attended until November. This included a streak of victories that lasted from NOOB 2 in April to Tipped Off 6 in October, and included a victory at Apex 2010, which retrospectively became Hungrybox's first supermajor win. Alongside other incredible performances that year, such as placing 2nd at Pound 4 losing only to Mango, the retrospective ranking RetroSSBMRank considered Hungrybox as the best player of the year.
Hungrybox | Unfortunately, Hungrybox's time at the top would not last for very long, as after his victory at Apex 2010, he would not win another major event for four and a half years, and would often be eliminated by one of the other Gods. He especially struggled against both Mango and his Fox and Armada and his Young Link during this time; Hungrybox was only able to defeat Mango at two events, and Armada at three. In addition, Hungrybox also took losses against several players outside the top 5, including KirbyKaze 1-2 at Apex 2012, ChuDat 2-3 at Zenith 2012, and, most infamously, Wobbles 1-2 at EVO 2013, with both players not knowing the set was a best of 3 until EVO founder Tom Cannon intervened prior to them starting the fourth set.
On the other hand, Hungrybox still found some success during this time. Though he lacked a major win, he was able to win several smaller events, with some of them featuring the other Gods. These victories include Zenith 2011, which he won over Mew2King, and NorCal Regionals 2013, which marked one of the few times Hungrybox defeated Mango during this time. Furthermore, Hungrybox continued to place top 8 at every event he entered, and would often make it to Grand Finals, including at Apex 2012, Zenith 2013, The Big House 4, and EVO 2014. His performance at the latter event especially surprised everyone, as he defeated Dr. PeePee, now going by PPMD, and Armada twice, finally overcoming the Young Link matchup. He ultimately fell to Mango twice, but went game 5 both times.
Nevertheless, in the first half of the decade, Hungrybox was considered one of the weakest Gods. This was showcased on the first two full-year SSBMRank rankings, where Hungrybox was ranked 5th, but as the lowest-ranking God.
Hungrybox | ===Gameplay improvements and EVO victory===
After many years of coming close, Hungrybox finally won his first major since Apex 2010 at Paragon Orlando 2015. After defeating Armada and his new Jigglypuff counterpick, Fox, 3-2, he was able to defeat Mew2King twice, defeating him 3-1 in Winners Finals and 3-0 in Grand Finals, to win the event. However, aside from this victory and a few smaller wins at Bad Moon Rising and Get On My Level 2015, it seemed like Paragon was going to be an outlier, as Hungrybox's other results remained underwhelming: his losing streak against Armada resumed, this time with Armada playing Fox, and he took additional losses to PewPewU at Apex 2015 and Westballz at Sandstorm. His last two majors of the first half of the 2015 season especially saw him be double-eliminated by Fox, as Hungrybox lost to Lucky and SFAT at Press Start and Armada and Mango at CEO 2015. As such, despite winning a major at the start of the year, Hungrybox was still ranked 5th on the Summer 2015 SSBMRank.
Unsatisfied with his performances against Fox and his gameplay in general, after CEO 2015 Hungrybox began practicing with his longtime friend Crunch. Their coaching sessions became incredibly successful and was what allowed Hungrybox to finally rise out of his stagnancy. This was first showcased at EVO 2015, where after losing to Armada 2-1, Hungrybox was able to make it to Grand Finals for a rematch, notably defeating Mango in the process. Though he placed 2nd, he was able to bring the match to game 5. His results remained incredible from here on out, and he placed top 3 at every major he attended for the rest of the year. Aside from an early loss to Professor Pro at Paragon Los Angeles 2015, he would not lose to another player outside the top 6, and would improve his record against Fox players, including defeating Mango again at The Big House 5 and winning his runback against SFAT at Paragon Los Angeles 2015. Unfortunately, he continued to lose to Armada during this time, including being double-eliminated at The Big House 5.
Hungrybox | Hungrybox's efforts to improve his gameplay culminated in his performance at DreamHack Winter 2015, where not only was he able to win this event, but he was able to defeat Armada twice, first in Winners Finals and again in the Grand Finals reset. This victory was an especially emotional moment for Hungrybox, who after the interview said that his biological father, who had passed away recently and was estranged from Hungrybox, had told Hungrybox that he would never be the best, and that Hungrybox's victory at the event acted as a closure to his father's statement. At the end of the season, Hungrybox would shoot to 2nd on the SSBMRank 2015, the highest he had ever ranked on the SSBMRank.
Hungrybox | DreamHack Winter 2015 was a turning point in Hungrybox's career, as in the following year he became the prime challenger to Armada's throne by winning a slew of majors, which included winning Battle of the Five Gods, where he defeated Armada and Mango in the reset. The best performance of Hungrybox's season, however, took place at EVO 2016. After being the runner-up for the last two EVO events, Hungrybox was hoping to finally claim his first EVO title. Unfortunately, he was sent into Losers early by Plup 0-2, and had to claw his way through the Losers bracket, defeating Mango 2-1 and Plup in the runback 3-1, to face Armada once again in Grand Finals. After going up 2-0, Armada was able to bring the set to game 5, and was posed to take the last game, as well as the entire tournament, with a full stock lead on Hungrybox; however, Hungrybox was able to clutch out a combo into "the Rest heard around the world" to reset the bracket. After four more grueling games, Hungrybox was able to decisively defeat Armada in the final game to win his first EVO title, leading Hungrybox to emotionally pop-off across the stage.
Though Hungrybox held two incredible supermajor wins under his belt that season, Armada remained the best player on the SSBMRank 2016, as Armada was still able to best Hungrybox at most of their encounters, including defeating Hungrybox in Grand Finals at Smash Summit 2, Smash Summit 3, and DreamHack Winter 2016. Nevertheless, Hungrybox became posed to take the throne from Armada in the following season, especially as he chose to quit his full-time job to pursue Melee full-time.
===Dominance=== | |||
However, it seemed like the status quo would remain at the start of the SSBMRank 2017 season. Though Hungrybox continued to win many events, Armada was able to win the biggest event at the start of the year GENESIS 4, and bested Hungrybox at Smash Summit Spring 2017. As such, Hungrybox was once again ranked 2nd on the Summer 2017 SSBMRank. Further making this race difficult was Armada's victory at EVO 2017, meaning he had won three of the largest events up to that point.
Hungrybox retaliated by winning every single event for the rest of the season, starting with Shine 2017. This included winning the three largest events after EVO 2017, namely GameTyrant Expo 2017, The Big House 7, and Smash Summit 5, besting Armada at all three events. His sheer dominance in the second half of the year was enough for Hungrybox to finally claim the #1 title from Armada, becoming the third player to rank #1 on the SSBMRank in the process.
Hungrybox | The following year continued Hungrybox's dominance in competitive Melee to the point where no one came remotely close to touching his throne. Out of the fourteen majors in the 2018 season, Hungrybox won 8 of them, including the supermajors The Big House 8 and Smash Summit 7; conversely, no player that year had more than two major wins, with Armada being the only player to have more than one. In fact, it seemed like Armada was the closest player to matching Hungrybox, as by the end of the year Armada had defeated Hungrybox in ever single set they played save for their Losers Finals set at Low Tier City 6. However, Armada retired in September, and as such there were little players who were able to challenge Hungrybox for the rest of the season. Though Hungrybox lost to eight other players that year, he ended up with positive records over all of them, and despite failing to win 6 other majors, he was often the runner-up, with his lowest placement being 4th at Smash Summit 6 and EVO 2018. That wasn't to say there were a few hiccups. Notably, this year marked Hungrybox's first losses to aMSa and Zain, with Zain double-eliminating Hungrybox to win Shine 2018. Though Hungrybox remained positive on both players by the end of the year, these two players would gradually give Hungrybox more trouble in the future.
2019 remained a strong year or Hungrybox; however, cracks were beginning to show. Though he won the first two majors of the year, including his first-ever GENESIS title, he wouldn't win another major for the rest of the half-year season, and in fact was able to make Grand Finals at one other major. Conversely, he developed a new bracket demon: Wizzrobe. Wizzrobe first eliminated Hungrybox 2-3 at Get On My Level 2019 for 5th, but was better known for double-eliminating Hungrybox at Smash 'N' Splash 5 to win the entire event. This made Wizzrobe a contender for Hungrybox's #1 position by the half-year ranking. Further hurting Hungrybox's season was his 1-2 loss to Albert at Low Tier City 7, which became Hungrybox's first unranked lost in years. In spite of these negatives, Hungrybox was still ranked #1 on the Summer 2019 MPGR; however it was only by a hair, as Hungrybox's final score was imperfect (99.8).
Hungrybox | Hungrybox was able to clean up his act at the following few majors, winning Shine 2019 and Mainstage and placing 2nd at Super Smash Con 2019 and Mango's Birthday Bash; these performances were enough for Hungrybox to rank #1 on the full-year ranking, becoming the first player to rank 1st on three consecutive rankings. Challengers remained, however: Leffen was able to get the best of Hungrybox at many events throughout the year, while both Leffen and Mang0 won the most important events in the second half of the year. As such, 2019 became the most difficult year for Hungrybox's title defense.
Hungrybox | 2020 was the final year where Hungrybox was still at least in contention for the best in the world. Though he lost GENESIS 7 to Zain, he was able to win Smash Summit 9 a few weeks later.
===Other Smash games===
====Brawl==== | |||
While Hungrybox didn't actively play Super Smash Bros. Brawl during its popular days, he was known to have a rather competent Jigglypuff in it despite Jigglypuff's drastic nerfs and his own lack of practice in it, to the point that he was considered one of the best Jigglypuff players in Brawl. Hungrybox was once ranked on the Florida Power Rankings for Brawl using a combination of King Dedede and Jigglypuff.
====Smash 4==== | |||
Hungrybox, however, was rather active in Super Smash Bros. 4, though he did not take the game as seriously as Melee. His first experience with the game was at the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, where he was one of the 16 invited players. He ultimately placed 2nd with Kirby, losing to future Smash 4 champion ZeRo in Grand Finals. At the tournament's end, he infamously challenged Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé to a For Glory-style match after he had teased possible future Nintendo-sponsored tournaments. Fils-Aimé declined, admitting that he "sucks at Smash", but that his "opportunity was coming with for3ds." He concluded his response by saying he would "come back next time and kick [Hungrybox's] ass," to the amusement of the audience. One year later, Fils-Aimé and Hungrybox made a special appearance in the 2015 Nintendo World Championships, and played the promised match, Hungrybox using Jigglypuff, and Fils-Aimé using Ryu. Hungrybox took the win by a very large margin, leading Reggie to comment how "[he spent] 16 hours a day running a company. [Hungrybox spent] 16 hours a day playing Smash." The trash talk between the two, as well as the set itself, later became recurring jokes within both the Smash community and Reggie's fanbase.
Following the game's release, Hungrybox continued to play Jigglypuff. One of his earliest-known sets took place against Diddy Kong player Player-1 at Paragon Orlando 2015 in the early months of competitive Wii U, when Hungrybox prematurely quit from the set following Manny repeatedly chanting "Hoo-hah" in the crowd during the final game, in reference to Diddy Kong's infamous combo that existed prior to patch 1.0.6. This game, alongside Manny's chant, became closely tied to Diddy Kong's metagame in the early metagame, and remained a recurring meme in Hungrybox's fanbase. Hungrybox's most notable performance in Smash 4 was his performance at CEO 2015 doubles, where he teamed with ZeRo to place 3rd. They performed various team combos leading into Jigglypuff's Rest, defeating high-level teams such as Larry Lurr/Tyrant and StaticManny/Dabuz, notably defeating Dabuz in a 1v1 situation. Finally, Hungrybox also notably defeated Fatality at the 2016 Georgia regional Divine Intervention, becoming the first Jigglypuff player to defeat a PGR-ranked player.
Overall, however, Hungrybox found little success with Jigglypuff, in part due to it being considered one of the worst characters in the game. At one point, he announced he was dropping Jigglypuff, commenting how it did not fit his playstyle, and announced he was going to switch to Ness; however, he instead committed himself to Mario for some time before returning to using Jigglypuff, which remained his main for the rest of competitive Smash 4.
=== | ====Ultimate==== | ||
Although Hungrybox still took competitive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate less seriously than Melee, he remained incredibly active in the game, both in competitive play and in the community. In the early metagame, he regularly made commentary appearances at Ultimate events, including at CEO 2019, and had some early tournament success, such as placing 25th at Smash Conference United. He became more optimistic about his future performance in Ultimate after Jigglypuff received buffs in update 6.0.0; shortly after, he placed 13th at GENESIS: BLACK, and a few months later, defeated his first PGRU-ranked player by upsetting RFang in pools at Frostbite 2020.
In the post-pandemic metagame, Hungrybox found even greater success in Ultimate, especially in the second half of 2022, when he saw several solid superregional performances such as placing 17th at Lost Tech City 2022 and 25th at Riptide 2022. In the former event, he defeated BassMage, the best Jigglypuff player in the world, in pools with a 2-1 victory. Thanks to these performances, Hungrybox was eventually ranked 199th on the 2022 North America. Later, he also defeated omega at CEO 2023 and found some success during Japan's Golden Week in 2023, including placing 49th at both Maesuma TOP 12 and DELTA 4 and defeating Japanese talent such as Floyd and Shissho.
Finally, throughout his career, Hungrybox also became notorious for going to the final game against many prominent Ultimate players. Notable examples include going to game 3 against Salem at Smash Conference United and going to game 5 against at Cirque Du CFL 3.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hungrybox took an active role in streaming and hosting online events, beginning with The Box, a massive online event that went on to become the largest Smash event of all time when including DQs. He then began hosting weeklies and monthly events alongside Team Liquid, aptly titled "The Box: Juice Box" and "The Box: Lunch Box", and The Box eventually became one of the largest tournament series in the online metagame. Though the series eventually died out with the return of offline competitive play in 2021, it was eventually revived after Team Liquid partnered with Coinbase to form The Coinbox, which went on to become the premier online series during the post-pandemic metagame, with many of the game's best players regularly competing in the event, especially Sparg0 and Sonix, and the series often being compared to Japan's Smashmate. His efforts in hosting online events was lauded by many in the Ultimate community, and helped him become a notable figurehead in the community despite being a Melee player.
Hungrybox | Content-wise, Hungrybox notably performed a "90-day Ultimate detox", where he attributed his performance decline in Melee to also playing Ultimate, and chose to drop Ultimate for 90 days to see if his Melee results would improve. Hungrybox especially hoped to win Supernova 2024, which took place at the end of the detox. Ultimately, the effects of the detox remained inconclusive, though Hungrybox failed to win a single notable event during this time, including Supernova 2024.

Hungrybox is well known for his defensive playstyle, relying heavily on Jigglypuff's ability to weave through opponents in the air and set up blockades with several consecutive and well placed back aerials. All of these factors allow him to grind down most matches to his preferred slow pace, often forcing the match to be very focused on spacing, and grants him dominating control over the flow of a match. | Hungrybox is well known for his defensive playstyle, relying heavily on Jigglypuff's ability to weave through opponents in the air and set up blockades with several consecutive and well-placed back aerials. Hungrybox has since improved his adaptation skills and incorporated semi-aggressive grounded approaches into his playstyle, often leading to grabs or aerials that send his opponents off-stage. This change of play gives him far more variety and further promotes his control over the flow of the match, as opponents must be ready to change focus on a moment's notice, all the while being very aware of the looming possibility of a Rest. His improvements as a player have seen him much greater success in recent years, to the point that he was considered the best player in the world from 2017 to 2019. He credits much of his success to working with Crunch, his coach and longtime friend, who helped him optimize his decision making and come up with gameplans for all of his main rivals.

Hungrybox is a smasher from Buenos Aires, Argentina who currently resides in Orlando, Florida.
Tournament historyEdit
Early career and becoming a GodEdit
Hungrybox's career hit a career highlight in the following year, where he made Grand Finals at every single event he attended until November.
Unfortunately, Hungrybox's time at the top would not last for very long, as after his victory at Apex 2010, he would not win another major event for four and a half years, and would often be eliminated by one of the other Gods.
Gameplay improvements and EVO victoryEdit
Hungrybox's efforts to improve his gameplay culminated in his performance at DreamHack Winter 2015, where not only was he able to win this event, but he was able to defeat Armada twice, first in Winners Finals and again in the Grand Finals reset.
DreamHack Winter 2015 was a turning point in Hungrybox's career, as in the following year he became the prime challenger to Armada's throne by winning a slew of majors, which included winning Battle of the Five Gods, where he defeated Armada and Mango in the reset.
DominanceEdit
The following year continued Hungrybox's dominance in competitive Melee to the point where no one came remotely close to touching his throne.
Hungrybox was able to clean up his act at the following few majors, winning Shine 2019 and Mainstage and placing 2nd at Super Smash Con 2019 and Mango's Birthday Bash; these performances were enough for Hungrybox to rank #1 on the full-year ranking, becoming the first player to rank 1st on three consecutive rankings. Challengers remained, however: Leffen was able to get the best of Hungrybox at many events throughout the year, while both Leffen and Mang0 won the most important events in the second half of the year. As such, 2019 became the most difficult year for Hungrybox's title defense.
2020 was the final year where Hungrybox was still at least in contention for the best in the world. Though he lost GENESIS 7 to Zain, he was able to win Smash Summit 9 a few weeks later.
Other Smash gamesEdit
BrawlEdit
While Hungrybox didn't actively play Super Smash Bros. Brawl during its popular days, he was known to have a rather competent Jigglypuff in it despite Jigglypuff's drastic nerfs and his own lack of practice in it, to the point that he was considered one of the best Jigglypuff players in Brawl. Hungrybox was once ranked on the Florida Power Rankings for Brawl using a combination of King Dedede and Jigglypuff.
Smash 4Edit
Hungrybox, however, was rather active in Super Smash Bros. 4, though he did not take the game as seriously as Melee. His first experience with the game was at the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, where he was one of the 16 invited players. He ultimately placed 2nd with Kirby, losing to future Smash 4 champion ZeRo in Grand Finals. At the tournament's end, he infamously challenged Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé to a For Glory-style match after he had teased possible future Nintendo-sponsored tournaments. Fils-Aimé declined, admitting that he "sucks at Smash", but that his "opportunity was coming with Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS." He concluded his response by saying he would "come back next time and kick [Hungrybox's] ass," to the amusement of the audience.
UltimateEdit
Thanks to these performances, Hungrybox was eventually ranked 199th on the OrionRank 2022 North America.
Notable examples include going to game 3 against Salem at Smash Conference United and going to game 5 against Miya at Cirque Du CFL 3.
Content-wise, Hungrybox notably performed a "90-day Ultimate detox", where he attributed his performance decline in Melee to also playing Ultimate, and chose to drop Ultimate for 90 days to see if his Melee results would improve. Hungrybox especially hoped to win Supernova 2024, which took place at the end of the detox. Ultimately, the effects of the detox remained inconclusive, though Hungrybox failed to win a single notable event during this time, including Supernova 2024.
PlaystyleEdit
Hungrybox is well known for his defensive playstyle, relying heavily on Jigglypuff's ability to weave through opponents in the air and set up blockades with several consecutive and well-placed back aerials. He compounds this playstyle with his very consistent punishes once given an opening, utilizing grab combos and deadly Rest setups to take stocks abruptly, and excellent DI and SDI to stretch out each of Jigglypuff's stocks by escaping KO setups that lesser Jigglypuff mains may fall into. All of these factors allow him to grind down most matches to his preferred slow pace, often forcing the match to be very focused on spacing, and grants him dominating control over the flow of a match.
Hungrybox was often seen as a very one-dimensional, "campy" player up to EVO 2015; he would easily and consistently defeat opponents outside of the top 5, but faltered against players of his level who could adapt to situations more effectively than he could. He credits much of his success to working with Crunch, his coach and longtime friend, who helped him optimize his decision making and come up with gameplans for all of his main rivals.[1]
Hungrybox is well known for his ability to "clutch", or win by what seems an impossibility, in a last-game, last-stock, usually last-hit fashion, most notably at EVO 2016 against Armada in grand finals, when he came back from the brink of last-stock elimination to reset the bracket and win the tournament. This has earned him the nickname of "Clutchbox" (alongside other variations, such as "Hgod" and "Clutchgod").

TriviaEdit
- Hungrybox is well-known for his post-victory celebrations (generally known as "popping off"), which have become a meme within the community due to their frequency and often-perceived excessiveness. One such pop-off that has become a recurring meme took place at East Coast Fridays #148, where after defeating Ginger in Grand Finals reset, Hungrybox's pop-off caused him to briefly faint on-stream.
- Hungrybox 4-stocked Mew2King in a Melee money match on a large projection screen at Event 52: Kansas prior to the finals. Mew2King won the set, but Cactuar gave Hungrybox a dollar anyway, stating "Hungrybox 4-stocked Mew2King, and here is his dollar," as he delivered it to Hungrybox.
- Hungrybox used to play standing up on occasion, which usually resulted in player cams showing his torso or zooming out.
- Hungrybox had a 500+ set winning streak on Smash Ladder netplay until he was beaten by SmashG0D (now known as Rishi) on October 8th, 2015[2].
- Hungrybox is the only player who has won more than $400,000 in a select Smash title, having done so in Melee.
- Hungrybox is the only player alongside Mang0 to have won a major Melee tournament in three different decades (Revival of Melee 2 in 2009, Apex 2010, and Smash Summit 9 in 2020).
- Hungrybox was nominated for The Game Awards 2016 in the category "Best eSports Player".
- Hungrybox was part of the Forbes "30 under 30 - Games" 2017 list.
- Salem was similarly recognized in their "30 Under 30 - Games" 2018 list.
- On August 15th, 2017, Hungrybox attained his status as an American citizen after 20 years living in the US (having been born in Argentina).[3]
- Shortly after winning the Grand Finals of Pound 2019, a spectator from the crowd threw a raw crab at Hungrybox, which missed him, but has since become a running joke in his community, and the competitive Super Smash Bros. fanbase as a whole. The spectator had since been identified and banned from attending any competitive events in person.
- At GENESIS: BLACK in 2019, Hungrybox entered the Melee Singles tournament under the name "Genghis Juan" and acted out of character, playing Fox and Sheik the entire tournament. This was part of a promise for a Twitch sub goal.
- On October 1, 2020, shortly after the reveal of Steve for Ultimate, Hungrybox posted an image of Kirby in the style of Minecraft's models in Smashville on Twitter. This led to a widespread misconception that Steve's Copy Ability had been revealed by Nintendo or leaked; in reality, it was actually a graphical mod for Smash 4 released by GameBanana user Jory Satana in 2018, as evidenced by IGN's official Twitter account, which coincidentally posted the same picture 3 hours later, with the image being one of the screenshots available on the mod's GameBanana page. Furthermore, Kirby was nowhere to be found in the advertising materials regarding Steve at the time of spread of the misconception, including his reveal trailer and screenshots on the official Ultimate website.
- Two days later, the official Copy Ability for Steve was revealed during his Mr. Sakurai Presents presentation; while Kirby's model does change to a cuboid like the image Hungrybox posted, it has a much less complex shape and a less saturated color scheme.
- Hungrybox won the unconventional online Ultimate tournament Bad Things Happening to Good People, bribing his way through most of the bracket.
