Sonix is a smasher from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic who plays Sonic in both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He is considered the greatest Smash player from the Dominican Republic.

Sonix's career began in Smash 4, where he was mostly known for his performances online, especially at Naifu Wars events. Offline, he eventually became the best Smash 4 player in the Dominican Republic in the game's final year, winning every event in his country during this time. He later broke out onto the national scene in Ultimate during the pandemic, where he became one of the best players in the online metagame. Upon the return of offline competitive play, he became the best Sonic player in the post-pandemic metagame, winning his first major at CEO 2022 as well as Sonic's first supermajor at Get On My Level 2023. He has won a total of 7 major/supermajor events and has been ranked amongst the top 5 for several seasons, peaking at 3rd on the LumiRank 2023. As such, he is widely considered the greatest Ultimate Sonic player of all time and one of the greatest North American Ultimate players of all time.

Playstyle

Sonix is known for playing extremely optimal, using the character’s speed and specials to make unpredictable and non-committal approaches in neutral, making it hard for his opponent to punish him. Sonix will often slow the game down to a crawl, racking up damage off combos derived from stray hits and taking little risks when even or up a stock, being more than willing to take his opponent to time if needed. However, Sonix is also known for his advantage state, overwhelming the opponent with Sonic's frame data and combos when he has them backed in a corner and sometimes leading to an early KO.

However, Sonix has shown to struggle when he doesn’t have the lead, becoming impatient to take a stock and playing more suboptimal. This, coupled with his general slower pace throughout the game, has sometimes led to himself losing momentum or even being timed out by his opponents. Sonix is also notorious for his homing attacks, which he uses off-stage to edgeguard. Given the nature of the move, Sonix has often self-destructed in attempts to finish off the opponent's stock.

• Sonix's willingness to camp out his opponents in tournament has spawned a number of copypastas, the most well-known being "UP A STOCK? YOU KNOW THE VIBES 🏕️🆙".
• Sonix is the namesake of Coney's Sonix% speedruns, where he attempts to complete a 16-star speedrun of Super Mario 64 before Sonix finishes a tournament set.
• Sonix has won the most iterations of Hungrybox's online Coinbox tournament series.
• Sonix often uses his girlfriend Angie's name as a gamertag in sets.
• After losing to a character, Sonix is known to Tweet out requests to practice playing against the character, often in the style of "Any [character] players wanna play? As long as you can ___ and ___ you’re good"
• From Luminosity Makes Moves Miami 2023 to Supernova 2024, Sonix did not place any lower than 2nd at major tournaments, with a streak of ten top 2 finishes in a row at majors, many have considered his consistency as the best since MkLeo’s two-year top 2 streak from MomoCon 2019 to Smash World Tour 2021 Championships. The top 2 streak ended after a year when he placed 3rd at Riptide 2024.
  • Despite this impressive consistency, Sonix struggled to win a major event following The Coinbox IRL in 2023, finally doing so at the tail end of 2025 with Port Priority 9.
