Mii Swordfighter (SSBU)

The Mii Swordfighter (Mii剣術タイプ, Mii Fencing Type) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They were confirmed as playable characters on June 12th, 2018, along with the other Mii Fighter types, Brawler and Gunner. Mii Swordfighter is classified as fighter #52.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Aesthetics

  •   Players can customize the Mii Fighter's voice clips. Up to 12 voices are selectable.
  •   Mii Swordfighters have had their body proportions adjusted.
  •   While still based off the "Guest B" Mii, the default Mii Swordfighter has an altered appearance.
  •   The default outfits for the Mii Swordfighters have significantly more detail, now wearing a tunic, with additional armor pieces and a sheath.

Attributes

  •   Like all characters, the Mii Swordfighter's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete (down from 7).
  •   Mii Swordfighter dashes faster.
  •   Mii Swordfighter has a slightly slower falling speed.
  •   As with the other Mii Fighters, Mii Swordfighter now has a fixed proportion.
    •   This includes a set weight of 100, on par with Cloud.

Ground attacks

  • Dash attack:
    •   Dash attack is now an outward swipe instead of an outward stab, similar to Toon Link's. It has more vertical range but less horizontal.
  • Up smash:
    •   Up smash now consists of two slashes instead of three, decreasing its ending lag.
  • Forward smash:
    •   Forward smash has less startup and endlag.

Aerial attacks

  • Down aerial:
    •   Down aerial now has a different animation and less ending lag.
  • Back aerial:
    •   Back aerial has less startup.
  • Neutral aerial:
    •   Neutral aerial has a little more startup and comes out slightly later.

Throws/Other Moves

  •   The Mii Swordfighter's pummel is now a knee strike.
  • Down throw:
    •   Down throw now throws opponents to the ground, similar to Marth's.

Special Moves

  • Gale Strike:
    •   Gale Strike disappears once the last hitbox is gone, lowering its range and utility to blow opponents and items away.
      •   To compensate, the gale travels a greater distance, it has an active hitbox during its duration, and deals more knockback.
  • Blurring Blade:
    •   Blurring Blade now sets the Swordfighter's blade aflame for its duration, deals flame damage, and ends in an upward slash, rather than a thrust. The final hit has a larger hitbox because of this.
  • Airborne Assault:
    •   Airborne Assault is no longer a chargeable move, and travels a set distance.
    •   Airborne Assault no longer leaves the Mii in a helpless animation. This increases the Mii's recovery options.
    •   Airborne Assault travels further on average when compared to the previous uncharged variant.
    •   The move stops abruptly if used near the ledge. This can prevent going off-stage accidentally.
    •   Hitting a shielding opponent with the move now causes the Mii to bounce backwards, making it safer to use.
    •   Airborne Assault's rebounding animation has the Mii perform a flourishing backflip, with a larger sword trail accompanying it.
  • Chakram:
    •   Chakram has a bigger hitbox and travels farther.
    •   Its slower variant has a longer duration.
  • Gale Stab:
    •   Gale Stab (formerly Slash Launcher) has a new animation that has the Mii perform a charging stab rather than a reverse-gripped slash.
  • Stone Scabbard:
    •   Stone Scabbard goes much higher than before, increasing its usefulness as a recovery move. It also grants more horizontal momentum at the start, with a larger hitbox.
    •   Stone Scabbard's landing hit deals much higher knockback, allowing it to KO much earlier.
  • Skyward Slash Dash:
    •   Skyward Slash Dash has significantly less startup lag.
  • Blade Counter:
    •   Blade Counter has a new visual effect, and now retaliates with an upward slash.
      •   The slash sends opponents vertically, similar to Corrin's counter, making it easy for follow ups.
      •   The counterattack has significantly lower ending lag.
    •   The counter now freezes opponents before the retaliation.
  • Power Thrust:
    •   Power Thrust has a slightly different animation, and it now produces a slightly smaller amount of fiery particles.
  • Final Smash:
    •   Final Edge now causes the Mii Swordfighter to rapidly perform slashes while each beam comes out instead of holding the sword skyward.
      •   The Final Smash now seems to be performed significantly faster.

Moveset

  Name Damage Description
Neutral attack   4% Slashes downward twice, then upward once.
3%
5%
Forward tilt   12% Swipes the blade once in a wide arc in front of themself.
Up tilt   7% Performs a single slash in an arc above their head, much like Link's up tilt.
Down tilt   8% Stabs along the ground, similar to Marth's down tilt. Decently fast and can combo into a jab or an up, neutral, forward, down aerial, forward, or up tilt.
Dash attack   10% (early), 6% (late) Performs an outward vertical swipe.
Forward smash   14% (hilt), 15% (blade), 16% (tip) Performs an outward slash
Up smash   4% (hit 1), 7% (hit 2) Jumps and performs two arcing slashes.
Down smash   12% (hit 1), 15% (hit 2) Performs two inward kneeling smashes
Neutral aerial   8% Slashes in a circle while corkscrewing, much like Shulk's neutral aerial, although with much less range.
Forward aerial   3% (hits 1 and 2), 5% (hit 3) Stabs forward thrice with their sword.
Back aerial   14% Performs a spinning backwards slash with decent start-up. It is one of the Swordfighter's most reliable finishers
Up aerial   16% (clean), 10% (late) Points the sword above his/her head and spins. Very high knockback, particularly when hit clean, being one of the Mii Swordfighter's best finishing moves, especially since it stays out for a long time.
Down aerial   1% (hits 1-5), 5% (landing hit) Flips upside-down and rapidly spins to drill with their sword. The attack hits multiple times before ending with a strong final hit. Weakly meteor smashes opponents with set knockback on the final hit, and lasts for a decently long time. Uniquely, the aerial hits of the move are intended to lead into the landing hit, which causes a shockwave that knocks others away with high knockback. Due to a programming error (the attack autocancels starting at frame 80 while being interruptible at frame 51), it cannot autocancel.
Grab   Grabs the foe with their free hand.
Pummel   3.25% Pounds the opponent with the hilt of their sword. The slowest pummel in the game, with opponents often able to break free of the grab even if only one pummel is performed. To compensate, it is tied with Mario, Pac-Man, and the Mii Brawler for the second strongest pummel in the game.
Forward throw   3% (kick), 3% (throw) Front kicks the enemy away. Above-average knockback for a throw.
Back throw   3% (kick), 3% (throw) Hits the enemy away with a back kick. Like forward throw, it has above-average knockback. It's the Mii Swordfighter's strongest throw, but it doesn't start KOing until very high percentages.
Up throw   2% (slash), 3% (throw) Tosses the enemy up and then performs a midair spinning slash to knock them away. Can set up a chain of up tilts at low percentages.
Down throw   2% (stomp), 2% (throw) Slams the enemy to the ground and stomps on them. Can follow into an up air until KO percentages, depending on the opponent's weight and DI.

5% Swings the sword front to back before standing back up.
Edge attack
Edge getups
7% Climbs onto the stage and stabs forward.
Neutral special Default Gale Strike 11% Spins and slashes outward, releasing a small tornado that moves forward for a few seconds before disappearing. Though the move has a shorter duration and only hits once, it now has an active hitbox for the entire time the tornado is in existence.
Custom 1 Shuriken of Light 2%, 4%, 6.6%, or 10% depending on distance Throws a bright, translucent shuriken forwards. The shuriken gains more damaging power as it travels, unable to flinch opponents at point-blank range but doing more knockback at maximum range. Useful for camping.
Custom 2 Blurring Blade 12-28.8% if all hits connect Charges up with their sword aflame. Releasing the special button causes the Swordfighter to perform multiple flaming sword stabs before finishing with a flaming vertical swipe.
Side special Default Airborne Assault 7.2-16% Slashes in a circle while somersaulting forwards. Unlike in Smash 4, the move is no longer chargeable and only goes a set distance, but the distance covered is slightly farther than the previous game's version, and the move no longer leaves the Swordfighter helpless, increasing its recovery options.
Custom 1 Gale Stab 6-10.2% Charges up with their sword held in reverse grip. Releasing the special button makes the Swordfighter dash forward while stabbing his sword out. Decently fast, with the move being able to hit multiple opponents while it moves forward, and covering significant horizontal distance.
Custom 2 Chakram 7% if all hits connect (slow chakram), 6.5% (fast chakram) Throws a chakram, a small bladed circle, straight forward, though the move can be angled. The normal one travels a short distance forwards and stalls for a moment, hitting multiple times, before coming back to the Swordfighter. If "smash thrown" (inputted like a smash attack), the chakram races forward, being able to pierce through multiple opponents.
Up special Default Stone Scabbard 5% (hit 1), 3% (hit 2), 5% (hit 3), 6% (sword when going through platforms) Slashes upwards while jumping and then stabs downwards while falling, with the second hit being able to meteor smash
Custom 1 Skyward Slash Dash 12% if all hits connect After a brief charge, the Mii performs a series of sword strikes while dashing in a straight line, which can be aimed in any direction using the control stick. Functions like Fire Fox or Fire Bird.
Custom 2 Hero's Spin 14-19% (ground), 14% in the air if all hits connect The Mii spins with the sword, much like Spin Attack; if used in the air, the Mii will rise, doing multiple hits. On the ground, it is capable of KO'ing Fox as early as 35%, at the ledge of any tourney-legal stage.
Down special Default Blade Counter 1.25x the damage of countered attacks, 8% minimum Holds their sword in a reverse grip behind them, and strikes with a retaliatory vertical slash when hit. A basic counterattack.
Custom 1 Reversal Slash 8% to opponents. Reflected projectiles deal 1.5x damage Performs a rainbow-coloured slash that reflects projectiles and turns around characters hit by it. Gives the Mii Swordfighter a slight air boost when used in the air. Overall, the move functions similarly to Cape.
Custom 2 Power Thrust 10%/8% (grounded sourspot hit); 13%/11%/8% (grounded and aerial sweetspot hit); 10%/8%/5.5% (aerial sourspot hit); 7% (landing hit) Shoots forward quickly, stabbing with the sword. When used in the air, the Mii Swordfighter launches at a downwards diagonal direction. The tip of the sword deals more damage. Acts like Falcon Kick and Wizard's Foot.
Final Smash Final Edge 8% (wave, close), 6% (wave, far) Slashes their sword, releasing multiple multi-colored crescents that travel in a wider path as they get farther from the Swordfighter. The Final Smash now seems to be performed significantly faster than the previous version, making it harder to escape from.

On-screen appearance

  • Appears from a whirlwind and unsheathes their sword.

Taunts

  • Up taunt: Throws his sword upwards, which twirls in the air, then catches it and transitions into a defensive pose.
  • Side taunt: Spins his sword in his hands before taking a stance, holding his sword in reverse grip behind him.
  • Down taunt: Poses with his sword facing upwards

Role in World of Light

Although the Mii Swordfighter does not appear in the World of Light opening cutscene, they were vaporized and later imprisoned alongside the rest of the fighters (sans Kirby) when Galeem unleashed his beams of light.

In the mode itself, Mii Swordfighter can be fought in the small town square where Timmy and Tommy's is located, north-northeast of the first crossroads.

Defeating Mii Swordfighter automatically adds the default Mii Swordfighter under the name Mii with a default 1111 moveset to the list of Mii Fighters for all modes where Mii Swordfighters are usable.
