From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week (or possibly less often, if the wiki's status is Yellow or above) this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in a competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting!
The Rules
- When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
- You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
- Put a
#
before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
- Type
~~~~
after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
- There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
- Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
- You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
- You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
- Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
- While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing
|}
). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
- If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
- Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
- Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
- Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
- Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.
If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Other users should not fix such broken votes without also making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero (and subsequently deleted) at an operator's discretion.
Multiple votes in a round are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in all your votes being deleted, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.
Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.
Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.
- Kirby has six jumps, a broken as fuck down air meteor, a hammer that kills under 50%, copy abilities, an up air that can juggle the crap out of opponents, and a guaranteed shield-breaker in his down-b that LEAVES HIM INVINCIBLE. Suck on that, Pit. Iron Gladiator (talk) 19:07, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
One's a clone in moveset, the other a clone in nature. Both missed out on Brawl and came back in SSB4 to much interest. Which wins this bout?
Votes for Dr. Mario
- Mewtwo is great, but I like Dr. Mario a tiny bit more. Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ 12:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
Votes for Mewtwo
- Remind me again why Dr. Mario was brought back? Aidan, the Wandering Dragon Warrior 19:14, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Dr. Mario is easily the most extraneous character in Smash, period. Miles (talk) 19:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- You're kidding right? Mewtwo is leagues above doc. Serpent King 20:02, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I personally found Mewtwo fairly fun to play in Melee (except for his stupid tail hurtbox :|), so I'll give the vote to him here. #20MK MetaKing 21:33, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Mewtwo gets my vote! Made its return in Smash 4 after 14 years! Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 22:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Ah, a truly tragic tale to test a toneless tune. Mewtwo! A life borne of hate! Giovanni cloned the original Pokémon, Mew, into Mewtwo to be the ultimate warrior, and strong as it might be, its power was not its choice, nor was its existence. Mewtwo did not ask to be made, let alone into a machine of rage. Its struggle forced upon it, its only choice in its debut film is to learn to overcome its dictated genetics of violence, whereas we take any positive emotions and tendencies we can muster up for granted. It had to invent its own happiness, a task hardly accomplished, let alone possible, yet still eternally dreamt for. Worse yet, all we use it for in Super Smash Bros. is the sentence Giovanni condemned it to: to fight, to kill, to hurt, demanding that it relive its horrific life of terror every single match. We, as players, are no better than the father who cursed it with consciousness, simply by playing a game. What is there to say about it's opponent? He's a doctor? My word, that certainly is the harrowing story, and it by all definitions clearly and without doubt trounces upon Mewtwo's depression-wrought misery. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 23:14, 28 August 2017 (EDT)
- Smash 4 main, so easy pick. --Mr. Loser (talk) 21:26, 31 August 2017 (EDT)
- I don't exactly have a problem with Doc, but I hate how they're doing nothing with him in the decloning department. Plus, Mewtwo's my favorite Pokeman in general. Disaster Flare (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
- I only like Dr. Mario in Smash because he's more fun to play in Smash 4 than the stale plumber, so Mewtwo is easily my go-to vote. It's somewhat like Ermac from Mortal Kombat's original timeline, an embodiment of the villain that turns into pure neutrality: it was created and enhanced by humans, but destroyed those who created it some time after
,including Dr. Fuji's cloned daugher, Ambertwo. Mewtwo was always confused on what its purpose was in the Pokémon world, but never gave up, never surrendered. Mewtwo wanted to show its power, and so it did, but also wanted to conquer the world. Eventually, the latter no longer happened, and it now traveled the world with its fellow clone friends to learn about the meaning of life, as well as to protect people in need. At first, I thought Mewtwo was a vague choice for a character in Melee, but as time passed, I grew to accept the character as one of, if not, my favorite Pokémon in general. I still use it in Smash as a secondary when I need to, and it is still one of the most interesting characters to play at a high level. In short, Mewtwo obliterates doctors (pun intended). -- Beep (talk) 14:03, 5 September 2017 (EDT)
- At least Mewtwo isn't an outright copy. (He is in his home series, but that's beside the point) Awesomelink234 Getting down to editing~ 17:55, 7 September 2017 (EDT)
Winner!! Tomodachi Life
These two stages take place in two lands of the Mii with very different flavours - does the harmonious hotel or the menacing mountaintop bring in the votes?
|
Votes for Tomodachi Life
- They're both trash stages, but Tomodachi Life wins by a speck. Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ 12:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I enjoyed playing Tomodachi Life more than I did Find Mii. The stages are no different. Aidan, the Wandering Dragon Warrior 19:14, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Sounds like a fun stage for me! Miis everywhere! Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 22:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I think this one is more fun, but will count this as a half vote because I like the game better. 75.141.57.33 17:56, 30 August 2017 (EDT)
- Stage-wise and game-wise, I prefer Tomodachi Life. I've never been fond of Find Mii and its stage. Tomodachi's stage isn't much to behold, either, but I love the game. Disaster Flare (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
- Much better design, and fun to peek into people's houses to see what they're doing. -- Beep (talk) 14:04, 5 September 2017 (EDT)
- No overpowered stage bosses here. Awesomelink234 Getting down to editing~ 17:55, 7 September 2017 (EDT)
Votes for Find Mii
- The soundtrack for Find Mii is astonishingly good. Miles (talk) 19:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- The faux-seriousness of these juxtaposed against the Smash roster was pretty fun. Miles (talk) 19:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Best one here! Snake and the Metal Gear Solid team chat about the Brawl roster here! My favorite codec is Mario. Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 22:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Mei Ling, Samus took her clothes off! Serpent King 01:58, 28 August 2017 (EDT)
- ^ Pretty much what Serpent said, but I also just have more bias toward Snake than I do Pit and Palutena. Pit is okay, and I merely tolerate Palutena, but I've always loved Snake and still do. Disaster Flare (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
- The codec conversations are an element of Smash not from a Nintendo character or series; likewise, its inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl represents an increasingly relevant application of third-party themes, which I for one enjoy. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 19:53, 6 September 2017 (EDT)
- More serious than Palutena's Guidance. Awesomelink234 Getting down to editing~ 17:55, 7 September 2017 (EDT)
Votes for Palutena's Guidance
- More Hilarious ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is bad for me 14:44, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I do enjoy some of the codecs, but Palutena's Guidance does the job much better. Uprising's constant dialogue strewn throughout the game was hilarious on its own, and this is certainly no different. Aidan, the Wandering Dragon Warrior 19:14, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- More deep than Codec. It's also with characters I know and like more. Skittles03, the scummy fox main (talk) 16:49, 30 August 2017 (EDT)
- See the votes above this one. --Vinc (talk) 21:25, 31 August 2017 (EDT)
- The conversation for Robin is the one thing that pushes this one above. 75.141.57.33 17:22, 3 September 2017 (EDT)
- This was a very hard choice to make, if I'm being brutally honest. I grew up with Snake's Codec Conversations, and always found some of them hillarious (Snake, you know who that is? You're kidding, right? It's Mario.). I always showed interest towards Metal Gear because of its interesting gameplay, too, although I never played a single game of it. And I also liked Snake back in Brawl so, by default, I was sad he was removed in SSB4. But, the thing is, I looooved Kid Icarus Uprising, how fun the banters were, every character's personality (except Thanatos, but tbh who likes him) and design, the most notable example being Palutena, which shouldn't come off as a surprise to these people. It all makes for a perfect mix of a challenging game that was still very fun to play. I know most of the people here have mixed opinions on Palu, and that some also have expressed a distaste towards the game's overly annoying characters, like Pit and Viridi (two of which I also like), but I still love the game and the conversations nonetheless. Like I said, both of the options are so good it was hard to pick one, but in the end, this one wins by arguably the smallest of margins. -- Beep (talk) 14:17, 5 September 2017 (EDT)
The idea of doing a super jump with your sword isn't exactly an uncommon move, but these two do it in a very different way. Which is better?
Votes for Final Cutter
- self-explanatory vote Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ 12:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I'm a Kirby Series bias to be honest XD, so this is another auto-vote from me. #20MK MetaKing 13:32, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I'm a Kirby main. Also it makes more sense for Kirby to have such a move since he has more jumps and I kept SDing with Ike. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is bad for me 14:44, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- As a fan of Kirby, I enjoy this move pretty well for him. Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 22:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- I use Kirby more, so I have more experience with the move. Also it has a wave projectile. --Vinc (talk) 21:25, 31 August 2017 (EDT)
- The projectile following landing can be surprisingly useful, something that Ike's Aether can not offer. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 19:59, 6 September 2017 (EDT)
- Hits more than Cutter. Also aether is used again in a stronger form for Ike's final smash. 75.141.57.33 17:58, 30 August 2017 (EDT)
- Ike main here. Disaster Flare (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
Votes for DK Rap
- HE Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ 12:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- At least this one is tolerable. I actually hate Ashley's song. It's one of those terrible ones that happen to be just so stupidly catchy that you end up with it in your head for the rest of the day. Serpent King 01:58, 28 August 2017 (EDT)
- Memes Searingjet (talk)
- Difficult decision, but personally, I'm more fond toward DK Rap than I am Ashley's Song, even if I like both. One could say the DK64 version is better, but honestly, I've always preferred the Smash version. Not only was that the first version I was introduced to, but I also think it just aged better overall. Disaster Flare (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
- So they're finally here, performing for you. If you know the words, you can join in too. Put your hands together, if you want to clap. As we take you through this monkey rap. This song is all about DK and the rest of the crew! Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 22:49, 2 September 2017 (EDT)
- (insert the entire song's lyrics here) -- Beep (talk) 14:19, 5 September 2017 (EDT)
- Does this even need to be said? In case it does, Ashley's song is way more annoying than this, so much that I disabled it on Gamer. Awesomelink234 Getting down to editing~ 17:55, 7 September 2017 (EDT)
|
Votes for Ashley's Song
- I'm only voting on Ashley's Song here because the DK Rap in Smash is less admirable than the original one from DK64. Ashley's Song is the other way around (and even has an alternate (and objectively better) version as well). Aidan, the Wandering Dragon Warrior 19:14, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
- Eh, both are overdone, but I prefer WarioWare to DK64 in general. Miles (talk) 19:54, 26 August 2017 (EDT)
