Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week (or possibly less often, if the wiki's status is Yellow or above) this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in a competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting!

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
      • Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Other users should not fix such broken votes without also making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero (and subsequently deleted) at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes in a round are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in all your votes being deleted, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 234: Sing vs. Rest

Two moves that harness the power of drowziness to do completely different things - which snoozes the other?

Votes for Sing

  1. I Believe rest is useless, but sing can actually do something, put the opponent to sleep and SMASH ATTACK them. But you will have to get the enemy to high damage first though162.72.179.253 16:25, 12 February 2015 (EST)
  2. If I had to pick between leaving MYSELF vulnerable, or leaving SOMEONE ELSE vulnerable? I'd pick the opponent no question! MeatBall104; The balls are inert! 13:30, 31 January 2015 (EST)
  3. I never figured out how to use Rest, it never does anything except make Jigglypuff sleep like a lazy idiot. 67.77.81.94 15:38, 31 January 2015 (EST)
  4. Sing is easier to pull off, and while it does not do damage, it leaves the opponent vulnerable to be Smash Attack'd. EpiNa8EpiNa8 sig.jpgHiiiiii!!! 23:09, 2 February 2015 (EST)

Votes for Rest

  1. I'm using a Wigglytuff in Pokémon Omega Ruby, and it learned Rest but not Sing. These are my reasons. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatum 13:23, 31 January 2015 (EST)
  2. After school, Rest (naping) is pretty much what I do. I do not like how you have to wake up in the crack-a-dong every 6:30 on the weekdays to get ready for high school which starts at 7:30. Therefore I take a nap before I do homework after school so I can catch up on my sleep. Speaking of Sing, having to hear people sing "Let it go" millions of times just gets on my nerves. 3. Snooze Smashworker101 (talk) 13:34, 31 January 2015 (EST)
  4. Sleeping is a more useful skill than singing. Laikue (talk | contribs) 17:12, 31 January 2015 (EST)
  5. This move is perfect for dis-Rest-pect. Oh, and the consequences for whiffing either one up until Smash 4 were about the same, so if I had to pick making someone sleep for a short time and risk them waking up immediately or blowing someone up and killing them at 20%, I'll pick the explosion. --Timson622222 (talk) 17:35, 31 January 2015 (EST)
  6. Sing has such a small hitbox and high ending lag that it isn't even useful. Either way, if sing does somehow land it leads to a free rest. 71.108.115.133 21:40, 31 January 2015 (EST)

  11. I'm not a Jiggly main by any sense of the word, but if I had to choose between putting the opponent to sleep for a couple seconds at best or OHKO at low percentages, it's no contest 73MPL4R (talk) 11:14, 2 February 2015 (EST)

  14. A good recovery move is often crucial to one living or dying after being knocked from the stage. Like Yoshi, Jigglypuff lacks any useful vertical recovery ability, other than jumping prowess. Rarely, if ever, are down special moves used for returning to the stage; conversely, up special moves pretty much always are. Sing, an up special move, is less than useless for getting back onto the stage, making it ineffective for recovering. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 21:03, 2 February 2015 (EST)

  24. Rest is the best for trolling, and the only real reason to choose the Jiggs. I know the hitbox is the eyes, it's not that hard of a concept. Sing just makes me embarrassingly SD when I try to recover. What kind of up b is a non-recovery move? --Meester Tweester (talk) 01:12, 11 February 2015 (EST)

So hard to choose...Rest is hard to land, but Sing is easy to land...but Rest can kill and Sing can't...this may be the only one where I choose not to vote due to the choice being hard. I remain neutral. AidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNGAidan the Aura Master 09:54, 2 February 2015 (EST)

And may I ask how to use Rest? I mean, all it does is put Jiggly to sleep uselessly.... 67.77.81.94 15:43, 4 February 2015 (EST)

You gotta have Jiggly right in front of the opponent in order to land the hit. It's a pain in the ass to actually get it to work. AidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNGAidan the Aura Master 10:14, 5 February 2015 (EST)
