Forums: Index Smash Arena

SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week (or possibly less often, if the wiki's status is Yellow or above) this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in a competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting!

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
      • Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Other users should not fix such broken votes without also making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero (and subsequently deleted) at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes in a round are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in all your votes being deleted, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 248: Master Orders vs. Crazy Orders

CrazyOrders.png
Which variant of random challenges is preferred: short bursts of cheap events, or a long road with much higher risk and reward?

Votes for Master Orders

  1. Personally, I always found Crazy Orders limiting. I appreciate being able to "re-roll" the events on Master Orders for free without having to pay to get in. Miles (talk) 13:32, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  2. Slightly less rage-inducing when you lose. ChuckNorris24.png  18:09, 21 July 2017 (EDT)

Votes for Crazy Orders

  1. Bigger rewards, moar thrilling, potential to get trophies as well, and you actually get to fight Crazy Hand (and Master Hand if you're skilled enough) at the end. Plus, you can potentially more reliably end up with more gold than you started with, due to the HUGE cash prizes in later rounds. Alex Parpotta the flying lobster! 12:23, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  2. In Crazy Orders, you actually get stuff way more faster than you would with crappy Master Orders. I've never liked Master Orders, either. (Also, I find Crazy Orders "funner" too) Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ KirbysCrazyAppetiteSig.png 12:41, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  3. Bigger rewards is better! Crazy Orders is awesome! More fights means more prizes! Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 12:47, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  4. Risker, more exhilarating and a way better use for all that hard earned gold! Go Crazy Orders!
  5. The closest thing to Classic Mode from previous games. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 13:32, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  6. Better rewards if you're good. Nyargleblargle.pngNyargleblargle (Contribs) 13:40, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  7. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Dragon WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 17:04, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
  8. More rewarding. Smash Master 13:07, 16 July 2017 (EDT)
  9. A perfect compensation for the disappointment that is Smash U's Classic mode, and compared to Master Orders, something more than just Special Smash with rewards. 034.png DracoRex, Creator of the Land 21:45, 21 July 2017 (EDT)
  10. Greater thrill, greater challenges, and just overall greater. Harder to master, easier to get crazed over. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 15:15, 23 July 2017 (EDT)

Round 247: Pirate Ship vs. Spirit Train

Pirateship.jpg
Winner!!
Pirate Ship
Pirateship.jpg

8 to 3
Spirittrain3ds02.png
These two vehicles travel the lands once called Hyrule and carry tussles with them - what's the favoured fighting transport?

Votes for Pirate Ship

  1. The Pirate Ship debuted in Brawl and returned in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as a DLC arena. It first appeared in Wind Waker so, this is a great place to travel the sea and have a battle. Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 10:16, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
  2. You can't fight on Spirit Train to this. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Dragon WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 11:15, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
  3. I hate the 3DS version so... Alex Parpotta (talk) 19:05, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
  4. Pirate Ship has a more realizable layout. I don't like having to move 100 meters horizontally and deal with caves of life. 034.png DracoRex, Creator of the Land 19:08, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
  5. Has one of my favorite Omega forms, that's for certain. And I'm always down for a bit of Brawlstalgia. Nymbaresigicon.png Nymbare and his talk 22:06, 2 July 2017 (EDT)
  6. Hah Wind Waker vs Spirit Tracks? No contest. Serpent SKSig.png King 23:36, 4 July 2017 (EDT)
  7. I have always liked Pirate Ship. Area51Guard.png A51 Trooper 19:13, 5 July 2017 (EDT)
  8. For Wii U > For 3DS. Simple as that. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 13:19, 9 July 2017 (EDT)

Votes for Spirit Train

  1. The launcher in the Pirate Shit is horrible. Plus, this stage is much more funner anyway. Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ KirbysCrazyAppetiteSig.png 10:55, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
  2. Doesn't have anything that can instantly kill you at critical points. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 12:29, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
  3. Spirit Tracks has some of the best music in the Zelda series. ChuckNorris24.png  22:22, 8 July 2017 (EDT)

Side note, kudos to KCA for using the word "funner". AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Dragon WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 11:15, 1 July 2017 (EDT)

So...how long are we gonna be on this round for exactly? Alex Parpotta the flying lobster! 14:57, 12 July 2017 (EDT)
