Forums: Index Smash Arena

SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week (or possibly less often, if the wiki's status is Yellow or above) this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in a competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting!

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
      • Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Other users should not fix such broken votes without also making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero (and subsequently deleted) at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes in a round are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in all your votes being deleted, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Winner!!

9 to 7 to 2
The three stage bosses of SSB4 seek superiority amongst one another: Yellow Devil the Infamous, Metal Face the Cruel, and Ridley the Unkillable. Which big lug takes the title?

Votes for Ridley

  1. I generally find this the most fun boss to fight in training mode (which I do a lot since boss battles mode was removed in SSB4), due to having the widest variety of moves, two stages, and more health than the other two bosses, making it more challenging. It's also fun to have up to three CPUs fight as well, as the fighter who is immune to Ridley's attacks shifts rapidly. Oh yeah, and also in free for alls, you can get Ridley to fight for you. Alex Parpotta (talk) 12:01, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
  2. I'll admit randomly ending up on Pyrosphere when you don't want to can be annoying, but Ridley is the most developed stage boss, with a bigger moveset than the others and more impact on the fight. Zyrac sig.png Zyrac(talkcontribs) 12:18, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
  3. Yellow Devil is fairly weak and incredibly bland while still somehow being annoying to deal with; Metal Face is stronger and therefore more boss-like, but still pretty bland; Ridley is strong and interesting. My vote is obvious. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 00:13, 18 June 2017 (EDT)
  4. It's fun to beat up Ridley, especially in Giant Smash. Area51Guard.png A51 Trooper 03:52, 18 June 2017 (EDT)
  5. Ridley da best --Vinc (talk) 03:51, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
  6. Ridley is the coolest of the three. His attacks are awesome, plus he's a dragon! MasterTabuu (talk) 16:23, 21 June 2017 (EDT)
  7. *obligatory joke about Ridley's size* ChuckNorris24.png  21:57, 22 June 2017 (EDT)
  8. I like him 172.58.120.42 18:02, 23 June 2017 (EDT)
  9. Metroid loves Ridley and for me, he did appear in Brawl as a boss! Dragonfirebreath25 (talk) 21:51, 23 June 2017 (EDT)

Votes for Metal Face

  1. "WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING, IT LOOKS...SMASHING! AHAHAHAHA!" AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Dragon WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 11:49, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
  2. Gonna have to give my vote to him. I love both Xenoblade and Mega Man, but compared to Metal Face, the Yellow Devil is a pain to fight and has no personality to speak of. As for Ridley, I've never been too fond of Metroid. 034.png DracoRex, Creator of the Land 11:55, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
  3. The only one who hasn't KO'd me. Ridley always kills because he's overpowered as hell, and Yellow Devil screwed me over in a Sudden Death by shooting those beams at me. Kirby's Crazy Appetite ~ KirbysCrazyAppetiteSig.png 12:01, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
  4. Metal Face is fantastic antagonist in Xenoblade, and the game does an extremely good job at just making you absolutely despise him. He's absolutely despicable and he knows and enjoys every second of it. Part of me still wishes he hadn't been killed off at the game's halfway point and practically shoved aside for the actual main antagonists. RagnarokSignature.png Ragnarok320, The Toa of Fire (talk) 00:24, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
  5. Not much to say, other than that I like his design best out of the three bosses, he appears to be the best villain of the bunch, and I associate him with Engage the Enemy, one of the best songs in Smash 4. John John3637881 Signature.png HUAH! 12:29, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
  6. The least annoying stage boss and definitely entertaining in his own game. JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 10:27, 23 June 2017 (EDT)

Half-Votes

  1. Metal Face is one of the best villains in Nintendo games, period. I hate the stage layout of Gaur Plain, but I usually choose it to fight Metal Face and listen to his sarcasm :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yarael-BJ-Poof (talkcontribs) 10:03, June 19, 2017
  2. Edges out Yellow Devil thanks to the humor. Nyargleblargle.pngNyargleblargle (Contribs) 16:50, 21 June 2017 (EDT)

Votes for Yellow Devil

  1. As a Mr. Game & Watch main, Yellow Devil's energy beams can be easily abused with Oil Panic. It's not exactly an honorable offensive strategy, but it is certainly an effective one. Everyman Or Nobody? (talk) 17:28, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
  2. Easy choice :) Rimigafob (talk) 16:36, 19 June 2017 (EDT)

Where's Dark Emperor? :P ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 00:14, 18 June 2017 (EDT)

I think it only focuses on Wii U aspects and so far Smashwiki isn't interested in four-way matches. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 17:14, 18 June 2017 (EDT)
