Tingle (Japanese: チンクル, Chinkuru) is a character originally from The Legend of Zelda universe.

Character description

Tingle is a short character that resembles a middle-aged, half-sized man dressed in a green suit. Equally as odd or perhaps moreso than that is his personality, primarily his delusional insistence that he is a reincarnation of a fairy. He made his debut in the game The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and has become one of the Zelda series' oddest and most noticeable recurring characters.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Tingle, having been introduced the previous year in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, is featured in two cameo roles in Melee in his first incarnation:

Great Bay

Tingle appears as a stage element in the Great Bay stage. Tingle is tied onto a balloon string and is floating over the stage. Tingle's balloon can be used as a platform. If the balloon breaks by either an attack or from standing on it too long, Tingle will struggle in the air then fall to the ground. If a character touches the balloon while it is popping, that character will take little damage. Tingle will blow his balloon up after being on the ground for a few seconds.

Tingle can be used like an item with an Action Replay. Tingle can only appear on the Test stage though if an Action Replay is used.

Trophy

Tingle appears in this game as one of the many trophies that can be randomly collected by typical means, namely through the Trophy Lottery and the various single player Regular Matches. This is what it reads:

Tingle
Tingle is a mysterious middle-aged man who thinks he's "the very reincarnation of a fairy." His bizarre behavior and unique speech are just little pieces of his vibrant personality. Tingle travels by way of a small hot-air balloon, making maps of the lands below him. Pop his balloon, and Tingle will fall to earth to sell his maps. (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 10/00)

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Tingle makes a few appearance in Brawl, being an assist trophy as his most prominent role. He also appears as a collectible trophy and sticker.

As an Assist Trophy

Tingle appears as an Assist Trophy in Brawl, taking his appearence from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and also being the only character to represent the vast The Legend of Zelda series as an Assist Trophy. Tingle summons random effects while chanting "Tingle! Tingle! Kooloo-limpah!".

List of Effects

  • Plethora of Hammers & Golden Hammers
  • Flies away releasing a plethora of balloons, no negative effects.
  • Makes the whole ground slippery, resulting in a lot of tripping.

As a trophy

A strange little man easily spotted by his trademark green bodysuit, bright nose, and pointy beard. Tingle has frequently appeared around Hyrule and always lets those he meets know that he's a fairy and selling homemade maps. In a recent adventure, Tingle escapes a sad and dreary life to embark on a magical adventure in the delightful, dreamlike paradise of Rupeeland.
