SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week (or two weeks, if the wiki's status is high Green or above) this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting!

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
      • Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Other users should not fix such broken votes without also making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero (and subsequently deleted) at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes in a round are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in all your votes being deleted, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 231: Samus vs. Sonic

Samus SSBB.jpg
Winner!!
undecided

~ to ~
Sonic SSBB.jpg
They curl up into balls and roll around at high speed. They have nemeses that refuse to go away. They're of opposite colours and personalities. Which one's the winner?

Votes for Samus

  1. Probably just a quick vote of some sort. Nothing much to say. Dots (talk) Link OoT Dots.PNG The Keyboard 14:26, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  2. Samus is underrated, Sonic pisses me off. Any voter who mentions "Yur too slow" in their voting will die a horrible painful death.Qwerty da beast Nessytrewq.jpg 15:24, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  3. --Myth Myth Kirby.png 15:42, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  4. Berrenta (talk) 21:14, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  5. Sonic has much better mobility and slightly better KO moves, but Samus isn't too far behind in the latter field, and her projectile game mitigates her problems in the former. She overall has better endurance (especially horizontally) and is a lot more fun to use. I also think Samus's aerials (except for b-air) are better. Blue Ninjakoopa 21:24, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  6. Neither were great to me in Brawl, but at least Samus was pretty fun in Melee.71.108.118.204 23:17, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  7. Sonic is complete crap in Brawl, plus, Samus has only made one "meh" game, while Sonic has made at least three TERRIBLE games. Laikue (talk) 23:49, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  8. 60.231.176.168 00:39, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
  9. I hate sonic in brawl. His moves were boring, weak and cheap. But samus has much more to show for. And if we're talking actual character comparison, I like sonic, but he can be annoying *cough*YOU'RE TOO SLOW*cough* and at least samus didn't have a game made in 2006 that almost ruined the franchise! TheAtomicFire BluePichu.png 08:44, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
  10. I never liked Sonic nor Samus (besides Zamus) in Smash, but outside of Smash, Samus wins, no contest. Her series consists of games that are actually, you know, good. Even Other M, the game that "almost ruined the series", has its fans. DoctorPain99 09:19, 27 July 2014 (EDT)

Votes for Sonic

  1. While Samus is/was (depending on the time you read this) the strongest character in the game, Sonic is the speediest, and after they buffed him in SSB4 and Mega Man taking Samus' place, Sonic is better by a landslide.
  2. Sonic is fast! Speed and agility beat technology anytime. He has more allies than Samus, and he looks cooler.24.95.58.164 14:33, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  3. Sonic doesn't need weapons to fight. He can beat any enemy using his own speed and skill.99.14.210.136 15:28, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  4. Sonic is third party! SeanWheeler (talk) 15:55, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  5. "Yur too slow" ChuckNorris24.png 21:05, 26 July 2014 (EDT)
  6. Love playing as him in Brawl Minus. *repeated pummels* YOU'RE TOO SLOW YOU'RE TOO SLOW YOU'RE TOO SLOW YOU'RE TOO SLOW YOU'RE TOO SLOW YOU'RE TOO... Awesomelink234 (talk) 21:45, 26 July 2014 (EDT)

6 to 8 to 31.5
These three items only appear in The Subspace Emissary, so naturally they're fit for a fight.

Votes for Key

  1. You need them to progress through the game. What a bad match. :P Dots (talk) Link OoT Dots.PNG The Blue 11:58, 28 June 2014 (EDT)

Votes for Stock Ball

  1. 4 stock? Scr7Scr7 sig.png(talk · contribs) 12:14, 28 June 2014 (EDT)
  2. Trophy Stands were a neat concept, but it was a very annoying item, since it takes forever to throw and it deals minor damage, leaving you very vulnerable if you inadvertently pick one up in the middle of battle. Stock Balls on the other hand are always useful. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 12:38, 28 June 2014 (EDT)
  3. Keys are annoying and unnecessary, trophy stands are clunky and only serve to acquire an item that has no affect on gameplay. Stock balls make you far more likely to win. Nymbare and his talk 17:54, 28 June 2014 (EDT)
  4. Trophy stands are very annoying and it is nearly impossible to get a boss in one of them. 71.116.252.110 18:38, 28 June 2014 (EDT)
  5. I can't count how many times I've missed with the Trophy Stand, and while the keys are a necessary gameplay element and a nice reference to Kirby, the Stock ball is very useful, especially when you're down to your last life, though it can be counted as useful at any time. 72.105.72.143 10:35, 30 June 2014 (EDT)
  6. It is so relieving when you are down to just oe stock and then you find another one also keys are dropped if you get smashed or use another attack and you have to go back to their spawn point and trophy stands are too slowZogvquit (talk) 08:11, 1 July 2014(EDT)
  7. 4 STOCK 4 STOCK AND THE CROWD CHEERING FOR A 4 STOCK THIS COULD BE IT THIS IS IT OOHHHHH -- Mango vs. Leffen, game 5, Apex 2014. Chilex (talk) 01:37, 13 July 2014 (EDT)

Half-votes

  1. All three are neat items, but if I were to choose, I'd have to pick this, because it's always better to have at least one more stock to carry you in tough situations. Berrenta (talk) 13:10, 28 June 2014 (EDT)
  2. its so useful in the adventure these are a savior to myself and everyone I know- a person —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.0.101.203 (talkcontribs) 07:55, 5 July 2014 (EDT)

Votes for Trophy Stand

  1. Collecting all the enemy trophies with these was one of the most challenging parts of the SSE. FirstaLasto 12:11, 28 June 2014 (EDT)
  2. Its awesome turning Tabuu into a trophy. Stock Ball is also cool. The Key is boring. --Myth Myth Kirby.png 12:19, 28 June 2014 (EDT)

  11. It's a unique item. Turning your enemies into collectible trophies is so satisfying. Stock Balls are great and all, and help out in gameplay more than the trophy stand, but 1-ups are a pretty common concept. You can collect those in any game. --Timson622222 (talk) 21:01, 29 June 2014 (EDT)
  12. I just can't explain the satisfaction that comes from throwing a projectile at your enemies. Plus, it grants you an instant trophy! MeatBall104; Sunburnt in Fiji! 23:09, 29 June 2014 (EDT)
