A boss in | Brawl |
Universe | Super Smash Bros. |
Location | Battleship Halberd Bridge |
Duon (デュオン, Duon) is the sixth boss encountered in The Subspace Emissary. It does not hail from any particular series and is unique to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Duon was created from several Shadow Bugs that had gathered into a single powerful entity.
Duon's name is derived from the Latin word duo, a word meaning twosome or a group of two, alluding to its dual design.
Boss description[edit]
Duon is a two-sided robotic entity on a set of wheels; one of its sides is pink and has a cannon atop its head and a pair of arm cannons and the other is blue with a pair of twin blades and a larger and curved blade on its head. Both sides have shoulder exhaust pipes which missiles (associated with its pink side) or mines (associated with its blue side) can be fired from. Duon rotates one hundred eighty degrees to change its attack strategy. The faces of its wheels bear a representation of the yin and yang symbol. There is an invisible platform between Duon's halves, making it one of only two bosses that a fighter can actually stand on, the other being Porky Minch.
As a playable character[edit]
- Main article: Duon (SSBB)
Like all Brawl bosses, Duon can be controlled in Boss Battles through hacking. The start button will self-destruct it.
Role in The Subspace Emissary[edit]
When Snake, Lucario and Meta Knight attempt to dispose of all the false Mr. Game & Watches in the Halberd's control room, they fall onto the bridge and dissolve into Shadow Bugs, which form into Duon, a last resort to defend the Halberd. The monster is confronted by Snake, Lucario, Fox, Zelda/Sheik, Peach and Falco, while Meta Knight stays behind to retake his ship. The boss battle makes up the entirety of the Battleship Halberd Bridge level. After Duon is vanquished, it dissolves into Shadow Bugs and flies away, leaving behind the trophy of the real Mr. Game & Watch, which Peach revives.
Duon later reappears in The Great Maze and is refought by the playable characters.
Moveset[edit]
Like all bosses Duon is controllable with hacks in Boss Battles. The start button self-destructs any boss, while using Grapple Beam resets them to AI control.

Duon's trophy is obtained by using a Trophy Stand on it during the boss fight.

Spirit[edit]
Duon appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Advanced-class primary spirit.
In Adventure Mode: World of Light, Duon is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. Duon's spirit is located in the Base sub-dungeon of The Light Realm.
