Duon (デュオン, Duon) is the sixth boss encountered in The Subspace Emissary. It does not hail from any particular series and is unique to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Duon was created from several Shadow Bugs that had gathered into a single powerful entity.

Duon is a boss who is encountered late in The Subspace Emissary. He doesn't hail from any particular series and is unique to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, though he does bear a slight resemblance to Dialga and Palkia and may be a visual reference to them.
Duon's name is derived from the Latin word duo, a word meaning twosome or a group of two, alluding to its dual design.

Creature Description
Boss description
Duon is a two-sided robot on one set of wheels; one half being pink and possessing a head cannon and two arm cannons (similar to Samus Aran), and the other half being blue with a curved blade on his head tipped in light blue. Both sides have shoulder exhaust pipes in which rockets can be fired from (as well as their arm cannons). A character who gets behind Duon can trick him into blowing himself up with his own rockets. He rotates 180 degrees to change his attack strategy. The wheels he pivots on are the yin and yang symbols from Chinese belief, symbolizing balance and juxtaposition of two forces.
Duon is a two-sided robotic entity on a set of wheels; one of its sides is pink and has a cannon atop its head and a pair of arm cannons and the other is blue with a pair of twin blades and a larger and curved blade on its head. Both sides have shoulder exhaust pipes which missiles (associated with its pink side) or mines (associated with its blue side) can be fired from. Duon rotates one hundred eighty degrees to change its attack strategy. The faces of its wheels bear a representation of the yin and yang symbol. There is an invisible platform between Duon's halves, making it one of only two bosses that a fighter can actually stand on, the other being Porky Minch.

Role in the Subspace Emissary
As a playable character
After Snake, Meta Knight and Lucario kick all of the Mr. Game & Watches off of the Halberd's bridge, they dissolve into Shadow Bugs, which form into Duon. Duon is a large robot with two upper bodies protruding from his base. One of these bodies has a blade for a head, while the other has a laser. When one head takes damage, it turns 180 degrees and presents his other head. He is fought by Snake, Lucario, Fox, Sheik, Peach, and Falco he is basically a complete stage, Halberd Bridge. After he is defeated, he turns into Mr. Game & Watch. He is reformed by Tabuu to face the heroes in the Great Maze.

Strategies
Role in The Subspace Emissary
*It's highly recommended to continously dodge instead of shield because of the little lag between his moves.
When Snake, Lucario and Meta Knight attempt to dispose of all the false Mr. Game & Watches in the Halberd's control room, they fall onto the bridge and dissolve into Shadow Bugs, which form into Duon, a last resort to defend the Halberd. The monster is confronted by Snake, Lucario, Fox, Zelda/Sheik, Peach and Falco, while Meta Knight stays behind to retake his ship. The boss battle makes up the entirety of the Battleship Halberd Bridge level. After Duon is vanquished, it dissolves into Shadow Bugs and flies away, leaving behind the trophy of the real Mr. Game & Watch, which Peach revives.
*While waiting for the trophy stand, one should try to stay FAR AWAY from Duon.
*Its recommended that if you are going for the trophy, one should bring a reflector or absorber.
*Pit can easily handle all of Duon's attacks, so he is an ideal candidate for the trophy.
*In Boss Battles it should be handled with care because it can easily rack damage or KO.

Trivia
Trivia
*Duon's bodies feature the same color schemes as Palkia and Dialga.
*Duon is the only boss that can hurt itself without the aid of items or a reflector.
*Duon's bodies are also a reference to the two main antagonists in Golden sun who are Menardi (pink who uses pink like magic projectiles) and Saturos (blue, who uses sword combat like weapons)
*It is possible to stand on Duon, between the two heads, although this serves little practical application as Duon still has attacks that can hit the player in this position, while the space for the player to maneuver on is very limited.
*Duon's name comes from the English word duo, which means two, referring to Duon's two sides.
*Sonic's Homing Attack will always home in on Duon's pink side.
*The wheel at the base shows the yin and yang symbols, depicting the differences between them, one using melee weapons whereas the other uses longer range weapons. However, it appears that the white circle in the black part of the symbol is replaced by more black, perhaps indicating that the machine is evil all the way.
*The word "DUON" is hidden on its wheels. This can be more closely seen when examined as a trophy or when using mods that remove the ingame camera limitations.
*Duon is deemed by many as the hardest Boss Battles Boss because of its incredibly damaging attacks and their very high knockback.
*Duon shares a resemblance to bosses from other series represented in Smash.
*If Duon is defeated while performing its Vacuum Spin attack, it will finish the attack before beginning its defeat animation. However the player cannot be KO'd in this state, as the blastzones cease to exist the instant Duon's health is fully depleted.

Duon (デュオン, Duon) is the sixth boss encountered in The Subspace Emissary. It does not hail from any particular series and is unique to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Duon was created from several Shadow Bugs that had gathered into a single powerful entity.

Duon's name is derived from the Latin word duo, a word meaning twosome or a group of two, alluding to its dual design.

Boss description[edit]

As a playable character[edit]

Main article: Duon (SSBB)

Like all Brawl bosses, Duon can be controlled in Boss Battles through hacking. The start button will self-destruct it.

Role in The Subspace Emissary[edit]

Duon later reappears in The Great Maze and is refought by the playable characters.

Moveset[edit]

Like all bosses Duon is controllable with hacks in Boss Battles. The start button self-destructs any boss, while using Grapple Beam resets them to AI control.

Spirit[edit]

Duon appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Advanced-class primary spirit.

In Adventure Mode: World of Light, Duon is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. Duon's spirit is located in the Base sub-dungeon of The Light Realm.

Trivia[edit]

 • Duon is the only boss that can hurt itself without the aid of items or a reflector.
 • It is possible to stand on Duon, between the two heads, although this serves little practical application as Duon still has attacks that can hit the player in this position, while the space for the player to maneuver on is very limited.
 • Sonic's Homing Attack will always home in on Duon's pink side.
 • The word "DUON" is hidden on its wheels. This can be more closely seen when examined as a trophy or when using mods that remove the ingame camera limitations.
 • Duon shares a resemblance to bosses from other series represented in Smash.
 • If Duon is defeated while performing its Vacuum Spin attack, it will finish the attack before beginning its defeat animation. However the player cannot be KO'd in this state, as the blastzones cease to exist the instant Duon's health is fully depleted.
