Ashley (アシュリー, Ashley) is a recurring character from the WarioWare series.

Origin

Ashley casting a spell in Game & Wario.

Ashley is a young witch-in-training who lives in a haunted mansion in Diamond City, making her debut as an employee of WarioWare, Inc. in WarioWare: Touched! She is typically accompanied by her familiar, a small shape-shifting imp named Red, who commonly takes the form of her magic wand. Just like Kat and Ana from the same series, in most WarioWare titles they offer a different short story with a set of microgames to go with it.

Ashley and Red's microgames are generally centered around either using a type of control scheme in a specific way, such as dragging stuff with the Nintendo DS touch screen like in their debut game, or sometimes they can all be related to a specific theme around them, such as being related to all kinds of food like in WarioWare: D.I.Y.

Ashley is commonly depicted in her stories as aloof and studious with her magic, though her spells often backfire due to her lack of experience. She is also very quick to anger, though she otherwise shows little emotion. Despite this, her theme song reveals that she considers herself lonely, ultimately wanting to have more friends.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Ashley's Song appears in both English and Japanese language versions on the WarioWare, Inc. stage. Ashley also appears as a sticker in this game.

As an Assist Trophy

Ashley's cloud attack.

When summoned, Ashley conjures up a cloud with an area of effect using Red's wand form. Any enemies caught in the cloud will move slowly and take damage; a variety of other random effects can also occur, such as characters becoming invisible, food damaging fighters instead of healing them, and even making recovery moves unable to work and instead causing helplessness. In the Wii U version, Ashley's hair and eyes turn white and red respectively when she conjures the cloud. Unlike her appearance in the WarioWare games, she does not have any voice clips.

As a background character

Ashley can appear as a sticker decorating Gamer. The sticker is located on a large solid platform that can randomly appear on the left side of the stage.

In Smash Tour

Ashley's trophy appears as a blue item that can be used by the player to reduce the speed of the spinner, allowing the user to more easily roll a specific number.

As a costume

A Mii Swordfighter dressed as Ashley.

A costume for Mii Swordfighters based on Ashley was released on February 3rd, 2016 as part of the final wave of downloadable content.

Outside of her above appearances, Ashley's Song reappears as music in both versions of Smash 4, as music on WarioWare Inc. in the 3DS version and music on Gamer in the Wii U version. While both English and Japanese versions are available on Gamer, only one variant is available on WarioWare, depending on the region.

Trophy

Ashley's trophy appears in both versions. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it is part of the WarioWare, Inc. Trophy Box.

NTSC This young witch-in-training lives in a haunted mansion in Diamond City. She's shy and quick to anger, but secretly she wants more friends. When she appears on the battlefield, she will summon a damaging zone of darkness around her. The zone causes a variety of effects, none of them good.

PAL Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion? You'd better learn her name, 'cause she's Aa-ashley! This little witch loves cursing people, but also wants more friends. Talk about wanting to have your cake and eat it, too... In battle, she conjures a zone of darkness that both damages and shrinks other fighters!

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

As an Assist Trophy

Ashley returns as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, functioning identically to her Smash 4 appearance. Her design is pretty much the same as the previous game, but now she has red eyes matching her design seen in promotional artwork from the 2010s. Training Mode describes her Assist Trophy with the following: Creates a cursed zone of darkness. Unable to be KO'd. She cannot be summoned in 3D Land, Arena Ferox, Brinstar, Cloud Sea of Alrest, Corneria, Dream Land, Garden of Hope, Jungle Japes, Magicant, Mario Circuit, Paper Mario, PictoChat 2, Reset Bomb Forest, Skyloft, Spiral Mountain, Spirit Train, Super Mario Maker, The Great Cave Offensive, Tortimer Island, and Wrecking Crew.

As a costume

Ashley's outfit for Mii Swordfighters also returns, being purchasable from the shop in the base game.

As a background character

The Ashley sticker returns on the same spot as before, now using artwork from WarioWare Gold.

Spirit

Ashley also appears as a Legend-class support spirit. In World of Light, her spirit is located in the village section of The Light Realm.

Her spirit battle uses a Mii Swordfighter puppet fighter wearing the Ashley Wig and Outfit and is fought on the WarioWare, Inc. stage. She is fought along a Tiny Ridley representing her familiar, Red. During the battle, Ashley appears as a hostile Assist Trophy before the Mii Swordfighter puppet fighter appears. Also, the controls will be reversed, referencing Ashley's ability to cast magic spells.

Ashley can be summoned using the cores of Charlotte Aulin, Star Rod, one Neutral type, and one support type.
