The Ray Gun is a long-range weapon used in SSB, SSBM, and SSBB and differs significantly. The green lasers it fires has high knockback and a medium fire rate.

  • One can shoot it 16 times before it runs out of shots.
  • Each shot does between 2-4% damage.
  • When thrown, it does between 9-13% damage when smash thrown but 5-9% damage when dropped.
  • The shots can be reflected by Fox/Falco/Wolf's Reflector, Zelda's Nayru's Love, Mario/Dr. Mario's cape/Super Sheet, R.O.B.'s Arm Rotor, Ness' and Lucas' baseball bat/branch. It can absorbed by Ness' and Lucas' PSI Magnets, and Mr. Game & Watch's Oil Panic. The shot can also be reflected by Mewtwo's confusion, but doesn't hurt the opponent.
  • One of the better combo weapons, it causes enough knockback to hit a person multiple times. One of the specials to get in a match is "Laser Marksman" which means every blast makes contact with an enemy.
  • Also, players should note that because of the high knockback, this item is very good for edge guarding, as it pushes the opponents from the stage with each hit.
  • In the original Super Smash Bros., CPU players will never fire the gun at Fox or Ness players due to the fact those two can reflect and absorb the beams respectively. They will throw the gun at them instead.
  • Its appearance in Melee (and the original Super Smash Bros.) is very similar to a gun used by the Ray robot in Custom Robo for Gamecube. However, since its trophy in Melee reveals that its origin is the Super Smash Bros. series, this may be coincidental.
