Peach (ピーチ, Peach) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. She was confirmed on September 12th, 2013,[1] the day before the 28th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the landmark NES game in which she debuted. She is among the first wave of compatible amiibo figures.
She is voiced by Samantha Kelly with the same voice clips from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. [2][3]
Attributes
Peach is a tall, light character who is quite slow in terms of dashing speed, air speed and falling speed. While this is an unfavorable combination of traits, it compensated by her unique floating ability. Her float ability grants her the power to hover at any height she chooses, giving her a distinct advantage in combat. This, combined with a potent aerial moveset, makes her a force to be reckoned with.
Peach can play an effective keep-away game. Vegetable serves as her projectile, and as a throwable item, it is quite a versatile one; the move also has a chance of spawning a powerful Bob-omb or a shield-shattering Mr. Saturn. Peach's floating ability also helps her to control space; floating low to the ground and using retreating aerials makes her difficult to punish, and this greatly helps her own approach as well, as with good spacing she can attack the opponent's shield with little fear of reprisal. Her tilt attacks are less safe, but given the right opportunity have decent combo potential. She has a decent grab game, as her down throw can be followed up with a variety of moves and her back throw is relatively strong. All of this gives her a solid set of options in the neutral game.
Peach does not have trouble KOing, either. Her forward aerial's high knockback makes it her best finishing move, and it can be used while floating to "fish" for a kill with relative safety. Back throw is also a good KO option. Floating allows for effective edgeguarding as well, potentially leading to early KOs. Peach also has a potent if somewhat situational set of smash attacks; her forward smash cycles through three weapons each with their own useful properties, her down smash is a multi-hit attack good for catching rolls and edge recovery options, and her up smash is a particularly powerful move when sweetspotted.
Peach does of course have drawbacks, mainly relating to her slow movement. Faster opponents may be able to overwhelm her before she can begin throwing vegetables or otherise defend herself. If thrown into the air she can have difficulty landing, and this along with her low weight makes her susceptible to juggling and vertical KOs. Peach's ability to approach suffers against characters with long reach and disjoints, as she lacks the agility to get in close before they can hit her. Her recovery is also a potential point of failure, as while she can travel a great deal of horizontal distance, she is left vulnerable if forced to rely on Peach Parasol, and her vertical recovery is somewhat poor, making it possible for her to be gimped.
Changes from Brawl
While her moveset appears to be relatively unchanged, Peach has been notably buffed overall in the transition. Her ground game has been particularly improved thanks to her stronger smashes, faster Peach Bomber and tilt attacks leading to many follow ups. Futhermore, her dash attack, forward aerial and back throw received significant increases in knockback, filling out her lack of finishing moves, a prominent weakness she had in Brawl. Peach's approaches from below are also safer with the gain of a new up aerial. She also has a slightly easier time defending against juggles and aerial followups due to her improved air dodge and slightly faster falling speed.
The biggest nerf Peach received was to her Vegetable, which now takes longer to pluck, noticeably worsening her projectile game. Many of her attacks also deal less damage. Still, the buffs she received outweigh these nerfs.
Aesthetics
- Peach has a new running animation based on her running animation from Super Mario 3D World.
- Many new animations accompany Peach's established attacks in the form of hearts, rainbows, and magic sparkles.
- The underside of Peach's dress is now darkened, obscuring her undergarments that could be seen previously in Melee and Brawl.
Attributes
- Double jump has greater vertical height.
- Peach dashes slightly faster (1.35 → 1.4175).
- Peach's air speed is slightly higher (0.893 → 0.95).
- Her air dodge has more invincibility frames and less ending lag, which has ended its status as the worst air dodge among the cast.
- Peach is slightly lighter than she was in Melee and Brawl (90 → 89).
- Peach falls slightly faster (1.05 → 1.15).
Ground attacks
- Jab combo deals less damage (6% → 5%).
- Dash attack's second hit deals more damage (4% → 6%) and has more growth (125 → 150), making it a reliable KO move.
- Forward tilt and down tilt are faster and deal increased hitstun, benefiting their combo potential.
- Forward tilt deals less damage (6%/10%/11%/13% → 6%/7%/8%), but its knockback was compensated.
- Down tilt deals less damage (10% → 7%) without proper compensation on its knockback.
- Up tilt's sweetspot has a much less favorable placement, covering a small part of Peach's body, as opposed to her blast in Brawl. Furthermore, the sourspot is weaker in both damage (10%/13% → 8%/10%) and knockback.
- The reduced knockback for her up tilt benefits up tilt combos and juggles potential.
- Forward smash has greater range and knockback. It also cycles regularly between a tennis racket, a golf club, and frying pan.
- Up smash sourspots deal more damage (8% → 12%) and knockback (40 base/100 growth → 60 base/100 growth). The 15% sweetspot deals more knockback as well (40 base/100 growth → 50 base/97 growth.)
- Up smash 17% sweetspot deals less knockback (40 base/100 growth → 27 base/97 growth).
- Down smash has a greater amount of possible hits (4 → 5), deals drastically more knockback (38 base/80 growth → 40 base/180 growth), and gained the ability to trap opponents into it, allowing each further hit to connect more reliably, no longer being the worst down smash.
- Down smash deals less damage (20% → 15%).
Aerial attacks
- Neutral aerial hits on frame 5 instead of 3 and the late hits deal less damage (9%/10% → 5%/6%).
- Forward aerial has more knockback (60 base/68 growth → 45 base/84 growth) and greater reach, allowing Peach to strike opponents farther forward as well as above and under her.
- Forward aerial and back aerials auto-cancel later.
- Back aerial's initial hit deals less damage (13%/14% → 12%) with its knockback compensated however.
- Peach gained a new up aerial: an arm swipe that draws a rainbow. It consists of two hits dealing 4% and 6% respectively. It has greater reach, a disjointed hitbox, and better juggling abilities. The first hit allows Peach to follow up with an attack that comes out on frame 10 or below, if she cancels it into the ground quickly.
- New up aerial deals less damage (11%/12%/13% → 10%) and its knockback was not compensated properly, making it weaker.
- Down aerial deals less damage (14% → 11%).
- Down aerial's last hit deals slightly more knockback (40 base/120 growth → 60 base/110 growth) and is much harder to SDI out of.
Throws/other attacks
- Back throw has received a significant increase in knockback (70 base/40 growth → 35 base/95 growth), making it her strongest throw.
- Down throw deals slightly more damage (7% → 8%) and has a good follow-up angle (108 → 106).
Special moves
- Toad's spores are stronger at close range and also turns Peach around when she is hit from behind. Toad also deals 3 more possible hits and also 2% more damage if all the hits connect.
- Peach Bomber is much faster and gained the ability to hit shields.
- Peach Bomber deals less damage (15% → 10%) and its knockback was not compensated properly.
- Peach Parasol is faster and covers more vertical height.
- Peach Parasol's last hit has less knockback overall (60 base/120 growth → 90 base/70 growth).
- Peach Parasol no longer has a slash effect, instead it has a magic effect.
- Vegetable has an increased chance of pulling out "Stitchface" turnips, Bob-ombs and Mr. Saturns.
- Vegetable takes slightly longer to be plucked and can no longer spawn Beam Swords.
- Peach Blossom is now capable of putting aerial opponents to sleep.
- Peach Blossom deals less total damage (40% → 30%), has much less range and puts opponents to sleep for less time.
- Peach Blossom spawns three large peaches that each heal 20% damage, as opposed to thirteen normal-sized peaches that each heal 5%. While the total healing is slightly less (65% → 60%), the significantly reduced number of peaches makes it faster for Peach to pick them all up.
Update history
Game updates for Peach have been very unusual. Up until 1.0.8 and 1.1.1, she only received minor bugfixes via updates and even then she only received very minor buffs. However, it is ambiguous as to whether changes on the shield mechanics from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 has buffed or nerfed her, as while her "dot-shaped eye" and "stitchface" turnips, Mr. Saturns and Bob-ombs have higher potential to heavily damage a shield (and in the case of Mr. Saturn, break it), these items are incredibly uncommon to pull in comparison to her other turnips, and some of her moveset has more hitlag, while rest of her moves have low hitlag.
- Fixed glitch where players pulling Vegetables near the start of an online match would get banned for "cheating".
- Fixed "lag-cancelling item toss", which allowed characters to interrupt certain aerials' landing lag with an item throw.
- Fixed "instant Vegetable pull" glitch, which allowed Peach to interrupt the Vegetable-pulling animation and get the Vegetable early by sliding off an edge.
- Fixed how aerials performed while floating would not affect the stale moves queue.

- Peach may be a princess, but that doesn't mean she shies away from an honest day's work. Her down special Vegetable is basically farm labor, and the fruits...er, vegetables of her work can be thrown. An angry-looking vegetable will do extra damage, too! She can also pull up Bob-ombs, or even a Mr. Saturn!
- Peach normally sticks to tasks befitting a royal, but her Vegetable special is pretty much farm labour! You can tell how much damage the veggies will do by looking a them. Happy/indifferent ones just do a bit, while the ones that just look sick of life do a lot. And the ones that look like Bob-ombs or Mr. Saturn aren't veggies at all!

- Peach's Final Smash is quite a spectacle to behold. Giant illustrations of Peach herself frame the screen, giant peaches rain down, and all the other fighters fall asleep. The closer they are to Peach, the longer they'll stay snoozing, giving Peach plenty of time to send foes flying or to recover her health with the peaches.

Solo Events
- All-Star Battle: Melee: Peach is one of the opponents fought in this event. All opponents debut in Melee, and reappear in Smash 4.
- Enough with the Kidnapping: The player controls Peach must defeat Bowser and Bowser Jr.
- Princess Punch-Up!: Peach and Mario are opponents that Zelda and Link must defeat.
- Unwavering Chivalry: As Meta Knight, the player must defeat Marth while avoiding Peach and Zelda. KOing either of the princesses results in failure.
Co-op Events
- Peach in Peril: Bowser and Bowser Jr. must defeat all opponents except for Peach, where KOing her results in failure.
- The Ultimate Battle: Two players select a character and must defeat the entire roster.
- Viral Visitors: Dr. Mario and Peach in her white alternate costume must defeat 4 Kirbys.

Trivia
- In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, a bug existed wherein using Peach's Vegetable move in For Glory mode would rarely trigger an automatic ban for "dishonest play".[5] It is unclear what the cause of the glitch was, but the main theories involve the player being flagged as having an illegitimate item. Nintendo acknowledged the glitch and released an update that fixed this issue.[6]
- Peach has four idle animations, the most out of any character in the game.
