The Fire Flower (ファイアフラワー, Fire Flower) is an item from the Mario series.
Origin
The Fire Flower made its debut in Super Mario Bros. and has become an important recurring item in later Mario games. They are flowers with red and yellow petals, and a white face with simple eyes. It allows the player who touched it to have their clothes turn mostly white and shoot fireballs at enemies. It has since appeared in nearly every Mario game.
The Fire Flower has become a recurring item in the Mario Kart series and serves as the logo for the Flower Cup. When used, it allows the player to throw a limited number of fireballs.
Overview
The Fire Flower debuted as a shooting item in Super Smash Bros.
The Fire Flower's design has changed within the Super Smash Bros. series. In Super Smash Bros., the Fire Flower's design is based on the design from Super Mario Bros. In Melee, the Fire Flower's design is based on a daisy. In Brawl and in later games since, the Fire Flower's design is based on the design from New Super Mario Bros.
While holding a Fire Flower, it spew fire in front of the player's fighter by using the attack button. Holding the attack button will lead to longer attack times. The flames can be shot for a combined seven seconds and inflict up to 44% damage altogether. While characters could not move while using the item in Melee, shooting items were later changed as to allowing running and jumping while shooting such items, including the Fire Flower. While the Flower can be thrown when it runs out of flames to fire, it cannot KO at any percentage, though it does inflict a burning hitbox. The Fire Flower's flames are considered to be both reflectable and absorbable.
In Melee, the Fire Flower can be used to cause the Ice Climbers on fire glitch, which causes the partner Climber to continuously release fire effects.
Damage
In Super Smash Bros. 4, damage dealt when thrown or dropped is dependent on distance. When dropped, items do more damage at greater heights as opposed to when thrown.

Trophies
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Fire Flower
Once you grab this item, press and hold down the A Button to make the flower breathe flames until its power gives out. The Fire Flower is incredibly useful when you want to push someone off the edge of a stage. In Super Mario Bros., it transformed Mario into Fire Mario, changing his garb and enabling him to throw fireballs.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Fire Flower
A flower that breathes flames when you press and hold the attack button. The flames don't last forever, though--after a while, the flower will lose its fiery power. You can also throw Fire Flowers at enemies to set them on fire for a brief moment. In Super Mario Bros., Fire Flowers were used to transform Mario into Fire Mario.

In Super Smash Bros. 4
- Fire Flower
- This Fire Flower won't transform you like in the Mario series, but it will still let you unleash some fiery damage! Holding down the attack button lets you spew fire at your opponents, dealing constant damage to them. You can also throw it at them, but it just doesn't look as cool that way.
- Unfortunately, picking up this item won't get you a cool outfit like in the Mario series, but you can still use it to shoot fire, and that's what matters. It doesn't do much damage on its own, but fire it continuously and it'll all add up! If you get bored, just throw it at your opponent, but don't expect a massive explosion or anything.

Trivia
- Level 5 and above CPUs in the original Super Smash Bros. will never use the Fire Flower against Fox or Ness, as Fox can reflect the flames and Ness can absorb them. Instead, they will always throw the Fire Flower at them.
- In the Smash games, Mario and Luigi are both capable of throwing fireballs without the need of a Fire Flower.
- The design of the Fire Flower in SSB4 and Ultimate is slightly different from its standard design; specifically, the outer red band of the flower is larger than usual. This is likely to make the item more visible from a far distance.
