The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Article on Super Mario Wiki | Freezie |
Freezies (フリーザー, Freezer), are enemies from the original Mario Bros. game.
Origin
Freezies, along with the Shellcreepers and the Sidesteppers, made their debut in Mario Bros. as "Slipice". They are ice creatures with simple eyes and a jagged frown.
Freezies emerge from the pipes on the upper portion of the stages, move from one side to the other, and then eventually covers one of them in ice, destroying itself in the process and making the platform extremely slippery. They can be defeated either by being hit from below or with the POW Block. Freezies are not required to clear a level; however, if the player comes into contact with one, they will lose a life.
Overview
The Freezie debuts as a throwing item in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Despite their origin from the Super Mario series, Freezies appear as an item in the Icicle Mountain stage of Adventure Mode, which is based on the Ice Climber universe.
When a Freezie appears, it slides across the stage on its own, speeding up if it encounters a slope. When picked up and thrown, any character hit by the Freezie will be frozen and knocked upwards. Freezies can break if attacked before being picked up. Freezies can KO characters at respectable percentages, as well as keeping characters trapped long enough to take considerable damage.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Freezie's knockback and freeze time have been considerably reduced, and frozen characters fall much slower, making it harder to KO with. Freezies are also more difficult to destroy, and they may deal damage after they are destroyed to any player standing near them and can also freeze multiple foes at once. In addition, when used or shattered, it uses the sound effects taken from the Mario Bros. arcade game. If broken by a physical attack, the attacker will receive 2% damage and no knockback, but will flinch, interrupting whatever motion they're engaged in.
In Super Smash Bros. 4, instead of sliding off edges, the Freezies will turn around and move in the opposite direction, but it will still slide off slopes.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Freezie deals considerably less knockback, lacking KO potential even at high percentage when thrown; however the changes to the ice effect will grant the user improved follow-up potential.

Trophies
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Freezies slip and slide along smooth surfaces and will happily slide off the edge of a stage if left alone. In Mario Bros., they would stop and freeze portions of the ground; in Super Smash Bros. Melee, they can be picked up and hurled as weapons. Hit a foe with a Freezie, and he or she will be temporarily encased in a huge block of ice.
- Mario Bros. Arcade 1983
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- An item that freezes people. If you're frozen, you can't lift a finger to defend yourself. You can break out of ice by shaking the Control Stick back and forth. Hit someone with a Freezie, and you'll hear delightful sound declaring your success, but frozen enemies don't fly very far. Freezies tend to break easily when carried.
: Mario Bros.
: Super Mario Advance
In Super Smash Bros. 4
The Freezie trophy appears in both versions. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it is part of the Mario Bros. Trophy Box.
Use this item to make a game of freeze tag chillingly literal. Once thrown, the first character to touch the Freezie will be frozen solid, turning into an easy target for a beating. If you happen to be on the receiving end, it's time to try and move around quickly to warm yourself up!
This item will slide along the ground until someone picks it up. Then the first person it hits will get frozen in a block of ice and be a sitting duck for any attacks that come their way. Carefull, though - if you attack a Freezie and make it break, you might get frozen yourself! If that happens, do some wiggling around to get free!
: Super Mario Advance (06/2001)
Spirits
The Freezie appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Novice-class support spirit.
In Adventure Mode: World of Light, the Freezie is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. The Freezie spirit is located in the icy mountain section of The Light Realm.
The Freezie uses the Ice Climbers puppet fighter and is fought on the Mario Bros. stage's Battlefield form. During the battle, the Freezie appears as the item while the Ice Climbers start off with a Freezie.
