The following contains a list of unlockables a player can obtain in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Unlockable characters
After meeting the unlock criteria or playing the required number of vs. matches, the character must be defeated in a 1-stock match on a specific stage.

Mii Fighters
While not unlockable in the traditional sense, the Mii Fighters will not appear on the character selection screen until at least one has been created.
DLC
The downloadable characters Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta are available for purchase. See Downloadable content#Characters 2 for the pricing.
Additionally, players who registered both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4 on Club Nintendo before March 31st, 2015 have received a free download code for Mewtwo.

DLC
There are eight downloadable stages:
- Dream Land, Peach's Castle, Hyrule Castle, Pirate Ship, and Super Mario Maker are available for purchase. See Downloadable content#Pricing for the pricing.
- Suzaku Castle is included alongside the Ryu character DLC.
- Midgar is included alongside the Cloud character DLC.
- Umbra Clock Tower is included alongside the Bayonetta character DLC.
Poké Balls
Unlockable Poké Ball Pokémon are challenge rewards, and can also be unlocked using a golden hammer.

Trophies are usually obtained randomly with some downloadable, Classic Mode, All-Star Mode, Trophy shop, Trophy Rush, and event mode exclusives. The following trophies are unlocked through challenges.

Event matches
Event matches are unlockable by completing other events, the only exception being the starter events: “The Original Heavyweights”, located in the center of the solo events screen, and “A Lurking Menace”, located in the top-left corner of the group events screen. Hidden routes have an additional requirement: players must unlock a specific character (or, in the case of The Ultimate Battle, all characters) to reveal a hidden route.
