Article on Super Mario Wiki Mario Galaxy (stage)

Mario Galaxy[1] (マリオギャラクシー, Mario Galaxy) is a stage that appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. It is based on the Super Mario Galaxy subseries of Mario platformers. The gravity of the stage is unlike other stages, being similar to that of the Galaxy games. It was officially confirmed on November 15, 2013, though one of the daily pics on the site teased it as much as two months prior. This stage is available as one of the stages in 8-Player Smash.

Overview

The characters fight on a small, grassy planet in deep space. The stage has a few trees and a house in the background. Various spaceships from the Galaxy games are seen in the sky. Because the planet is so small, the stage has a noticeable curvature to it. The center of gravity is the center of the planet, so jumping or getting launched upwards from the edge will cause the character to move diagonally. There are also at least two platforms of differing heights on the stage, though it is unknown if they are moving or stationary. The stage also has two walk-off blast lines. Occasionally, star bits may rain down on the stage.

Origin

This stage is based on the Super Mario Galaxy games. In the games, Mario would navigate through levels by going planet to planet, with each planet having its own gravitational pull, to reach the goal. In this stage, the planet the players battle on is the starting planet from Gateway Galaxy, which is the first level in Super Mario Galaxy. The gravity in this stage pulls towards the center of the planet as well. The design of the planet, however, is somewhat different than how it appeared in Super Mario Galaxy. Such as the addition of the pine trees in the background, there only being one house on the planet rather than two (the house is also designed differently), and the planet is much larger now.

In the background can be seen one of Bowser's Airships, which is based particularly off their design in Super Mario Galaxy. Starship Mario and its pilot, Lubba, also appear in the background and originate from Super Mario Galaxy 2 where Lubba would pilot Starship Mario to the different galaxies in the game. Other Lumas can also be seen on Starship Mario. Starshroom from both games can also be seen.

Ω Mode

The stage no longer curves and walk-off blast lines are removed. There is also no longer a point-like center of gravity; characters will simply accelerate straight downward.
