Article on Lylat Wiki Andross

Andross (アンドルフ, Andorf) is the foremost villain in the Star Fox series. He appears as two separate trophies in Super Smash Bros. Melee and an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Origin

Andross, as he appears in Star Fox.

The mechanical incarnation of Andross, the basis for his Assist Trophy appearance, first appeared in Star Fox, which used filled 3D polygons to render objects, items, and bosses in the game, including himself. His main method of attack, as in Star Fox, is to inhale and spit out polygonal, metallic tiles at the player.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Trophies

Andross makes two separate appearances as trophies:

Andross (Mechanical)

Star Fox's archenemy. Whether it's a metallic manifestation of Andross or just a hologram is unknown, but from its outward appearance, it's safe to assume that it's not the fiend's true form. Andross occasionally sucks matter in and then violently exhales, sending out a cloud of metal tiles. Its eyes are its weak points.

This incarnation of Andross was so big as to be ridiculous, but it at least appeared to be a living being. Andross was once a brilliant scientist, but was banished from the galaxy for his dangerous experiments. From the planet Venom, he readied his troops and directed his sword of vengeance toward the Lylat System.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the original SNES version of Andross appears as an Assist Trophy, and thus as a collectible trophy.

As an Assist Trophy

Andross in Brawl

When Andross appears out of an Assist Trophy capsule, he floats up off the screen and flies towards the back of the stage and spits polygon panels out of his mouth. Characters hit by the panels will take around 12% damage, while the tiles go right through the one who summoned him. Andross permanently appears during the event match Shadow of Andross, making it more difficult for the human players as Fox and Falco to KO Wolf.

Andross

A brilliant scientist formerly employed by the Cornerian Army. He took his research too far, and the disastrous results labeled him a Level 1 offender, resulting in his banishment to the nearby planet Venom. After building a base and declaring himself emperor, he swore he would rule the Lylat system. Thanks to Team Star Fox's heroism, the madman has yet to achieve this.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

As an Assist Trophy

Andross attacking Mario and Pit

Andross returns as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. 4, keeping his Brawl behavior.

However, one slight change was made to Andross when being summoned. Unlike Brawl, where Andross lands in parts of the background that match the part of the stage where the player summoned him, now he always goes to the center of the background, regardless of where he was released.

Trophies Descriptions

Andross

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

As an Assist Trophy

Andross continues his panel-spitting routine in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He is also one of the few Assist Trophies unable to be defeated. Training Mode describes his Assist Trophy: Moves into the background, then fires polygon panels at the stage. Can't be KO'd.

Andross cannot be summoned on the following stages:

Spirit

Andross appears as three different Primary spirits. His SNES spirit can only be summoned by the Spirit cores of Porygon and Commander because they are polygons. His Star Fox 64 3D can be obtained through a Spirit battle or purchased from the Vault Shop for 6000G and can be enhanced to his true brain form at level 99.

Trivia

  • Andross, Nintendog, Waluigi, and Zero are tied for having the most spirits for an Assist Trophy with 3 each.
  • In Brawl and SSB4, when Andross is summoned on stages with certain large objects placed in the background, Andross can barely be seen, with only uncovered parts of Andross' face being noticable. In Ultimate, Andross' model is transparent when facing directly behind background objects.
