Peach (ピーチ, Pīchi) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. She was confirmed on September 12, 2013,[1] the day before the anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the landmark game in which she debuted. She is among the first wave of compatible amiibo figures. Peach is voiced by Samantha Kelly, albeit seemingly with the same voice clips from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. [2][3]
Changes from Brawl
While her moveset appears to be relatively unchanged, Peach has been notably buffed overall from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to SSB4. Her ground game has been particularly improved thanks to her stronger smashes, faster Peach Bomber and tilt attacks leading to many follow ups. Futhermore, her dash attack, forward aerial and back throw received significant increases in knockback, filling out her lack of finishing moves, a prominent weakness she had in Brawl. Likewise, Peach's approaches from below are safer with the gain of a new up aerial. Visually, many new animations accompany her established attacks in the form of hearts, rainbows and magic sparkles.
- Running speed and air speed have been increased. [2][3]
- Double jump has greater vertical height. [3]
- Floating has been improved.
- Float canceling returns from Melee through a new advanced technique called "Float Canceling Vegetable Toss". [4]
- Peach's aerial attacks performed while floating ignore stale-move negation. [5]
- Dash attack has been improved. [2][3]
- The second hit deals more damage (6%, up from 4%).
- Its knockback has been immensely increased, being able to KO.
- Forward smash has been improved. [3]
- Peach's numerous tools come out in a set order, cycling regularly between a golf club, frying pan and a tennis racket.
- Each one deals more knockback, making them great finishers.
- Peach performs a different pose when using them compared to previous games, slightly increasing their range.
- The sweet spot now covers a small part of Peach's body, as opposed to her hand in Brawl. This threatment can also be (negatively) seen in Peach's up tilt.
- The sour spot received significant increases in knockback, being able to KO reliably.
- The sour spot's range spreads further horizontally and vertically thanks to a new ribbon spawning around Peach.
- Down smash has been improved. [2][3]
- Its knockback has almost been entirely reverted back to its Melee form.
- It has a greater amount of possible hits (5, up from 4).
- It now has the ability to trap opponents into it, allowing each further hit to connect with very limited failure.
- However, each hit deals less damage (3-5%, down from 5-7%).
- A new up aerial has been granted to Peach. It generates a rainbow using a motion resembling Zelda's up tilt. [3]
- The move consists of two hits dealing 4% and 6% respectively.
- It deals less knockback, reducing its KO potential, but making it great for juggles.
- It is faster and has greater reach, allowing Peach to approach opponents above her more safely.
- Peach Bomber has been greatly improved. [2][3]
- It now has the ability to hit an opponent's shield.
- It is much faster, with greatly reduced lag.
- However, it deals less damage (10%, down from 15%).
- Peach Parasol has been improved. [6]
- It is faster and covers more vertical height.
- It has much stronger knockback, adding more KO potential to it through the upper blast line. It also improves Peach's chances of stage spiking an edge-guarding opponent. [6]
- Back throw has received a significant increase in knockback, making it a reliable KO move. [7]
- Down throw has been improved. [8]
- It deals more damage (8%, up from 7%).
- It received sufficient knockback for being an excellent throw for follow ups.
- The sweet spot now covers a small part of Peach's body, as opposed to her blast in Brawl. This threatment can also be (positively) seen in Peach's up smash.
- The sour spot deals less damage (8%, down from 10%) and remarkably less knockback, being unable to KO until 200%.
- It has more ending lag once a turnip (or item) is plucked.
- The previous nerf may be nullified through an advanced technique called "Instant Turnip Pull". [9]
- Peach's means of approach with her Vegetable are hindered by the loss of Glide tossing.
- This loss is mildly compensated by the return of Jump cancel throw. [10]
- Peach has increased chances of pulling out "Stichface" turnips, bob-ombs and Mr. Saturns.
- Peach is no longer able to spawn beam swords.
- The notorious "Stichface" turnip deals less damage (29%, down from 32%) and remarkably less knockback.
- Mr. Saturn will always destroy an entire shield when hitting one.
- Forward tilt and down tilt received many changes. [2]
- Forward aerial received many changes. [3]
- It has been reverted to its Melee form in terms of knockback.
- It has greater reach, allowing Peach to strike opponents above and under her as well.
- However, it is much slower.
- Peach Blossom, Peach's Final Smash, received many changes. [11][12][13]
- It deals less damage (maximum of 30%, down from 40%).
- Opponents' sleep duration has been sharply decreased.
- Opponents standing several meters away from Peach will no longer fall asleep nor receive damage.
- Opponents in the air will immediately fall asleep. This can be a guaranteed KO if there's no solid ground under one's feet. However, opponents can still move in midair to an extent. [13]
- It summons three huge peaches instead of many smaller ones. Each one heals 20%, up from 5%.
- These peaches may spawn near opponents, and due to the lowered sleep duration, it becomes much easier for Peach's targets to grab the peaches before she does.
Like Mario and Luigi, Peach's facial structure appears more as it does in the Super Mario franchise than it has in past installments. Additionally, her dress is brighter in color and less pale. Her dress has also been redesigned to look a bit simpler, with less wrinkles and a bit less detail. Her hair color appears to be brighter and less pale than it was in Brawl as well. The ring on her hand now has an opal gem that matches her other blue gems: the broach on her chest and the one on her crown. Also, her running animation is now based on her running animation from Super Mario 3D World. The underside of her skirt is now darkened, obscuring her undergarments. Like the other characters, Peach is also much more expressive.
However, like all past Smash Bros installments, including Melee and Brawl, Peach's head is smaller and she is taller than she is the actual Mario series, to give her a more realistic look.
Moveset
Name | Damage | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Neutral attack | ? | 2% | Slaps the enemy twice. | |
3% | ||||
Forward tilt | rowspan="1" | 7% | Kicks forward 180 degrees from low to high. | |
Up tilt | rowspan="1" | 10% (body/ground level), 8% (blast/arm) | Arm extended upward and a pink heart blasts above her head, dealing damage. | |
Down tilt | rowspan="1" | 7% | A downward sweep of the hand to the ground. This move has good vertical knockback. | |
Dash attack | 4% (hit 1), 6% (hit 2) | Strikes with both arms extended forward, then quickly spreads her arms out. Unlike in Brawl, the first hit's knockback never grows, so both hits nearly always connect. Second hit has some knockback. | ||
Forward smash | rowspan="1" | 15% (club), 18% (pan), 13% (racket) | Strikes with a bludgeon, cycling regularly between a golf club, frying pan, or a tennis racket. Each weapon has different properties - the frying pan has more vertical knockback, the golf club has more diagonal knockback (and the most range), and the tennis racket has more horizontal knockback. | |
Up smash | 15% (body/ground level), 12% (hand) | Raises arm and twirls a pink ribbon. Powerful vertical knockback. Powerful vertical knockback if sweetspotted (Peach's body, as opposed to the arm). | ||
Down smash | 2%/3% x5 | Spins dress around like a blade, slashing whoever gets caught in it. Knockback isn't as high as other smashes. | ||
Neutral aerial | rowspan="1" | 13% (clean) | Spins around at an angle with arms extended, dealing damage to her left and right sides. | |
Forward aerial | rowspan="1" | 15% | Peach grabs the crown off her head and strikes with it in a vertical arc. Some startup lag, and a lot of ending lag. A visible flash occurs at the start of her swing. Good knockback. | |
Back aerial | 12% | Peach strikes behind her with her butt. Low startup lag, making it quicker than her forward aerial, but has notable ending lag. | ||
Up aerial | 4% (hit 1), 6% (hit 2) | Strikes above her head with arms from left to right, creating rainbow trails and launching targets upward. | ||
Down aerial | 2% (hits 1-3), 5% (hit 4) | Kicks straight downwards four times. Long duration. Fourth kick has some vertical knockback. | ||
Grab | — | |||
Pummel | 2% | Kicks the opponent's shin. Relatively fast pummel. | ||
Forward throw | 2% (hit 1), 8% (throw) | Peach winds up and slaps the opponent away. Decent knockback. | ||
Back throw | 2% (hit 1), 9% (throw) | Places opponent behind her and bumps him/her away with her rear. | ||
Up throw | 2% (hit 1), 6% (throw) | Puts opponent above her, and strikes him/her upward. | ||
Down throw | 1% (hit 1), 7% (throw) | Puts opponent lying face-up on the ground and sits on him/her, creating upwards knockback. | ||

Techs | — | — | ||
Floor attack (front) Floor getups (front) |
8% (hit 2 legs), 6% (otherwise)? | Swirls around in a similar fashion to Mario's down smash. Unusually for a floor attack, part of it does more than 6% damage. | ||
Floor attack (back) Floor getups (back) |
6%? | Peach swings her legs around. | ||
Floor attack (trip) Floor getups (trip) |

Neutral special | Toad | 2% (hits 1-9) | Peach holds out Toad, who blocks and counterattacks. | |
Side special | Peach Bomber | 10% | Peach tackles with a hip attack, causing an explosion on contact. | |
Up special | Peach Parasol | 1-3% (hit 1), 1% (hit 2), 1% (hit 3), 1% (hit 4), 4% (hit 5) | Peach flies upwards, poking those in the way with her parasol. | |
Down special | Vegetable | 5-9% (most), 9-13% (wink), 15-19% (dot), 27-30% (stitch) | Peach plucks a turnip from the ground that can be thrown. Their face determines how much damage they will do, dubbed by the fanbase as "normal", "wink", "dot", and "stitch". (Un?)surprisingly low knockback, except for the stitch turnip. Turnips usually deal less damage the farther they have traveled. She will occasionally pull out other objects and items, such as Mr. Saturn or a Bom-omb, both of which flail and struggle while in her hand (as if trying to break free.) | |
Final Smash | Peach Blossom | 30% | Everyone goes to sleep. (Note: the duration of the sleep is notably shorter than in Brawl.) 3 giant peaches appear, each healing 20%. |
Ground attacks
Normal
- Neutral attack - Peach slaps the enemy twice.
- Dash attack - Peach extends both of her arms and quickly swipes them to her side, as if pushing.
- Forward tilt - Peach thrusts her leg upward in a 180˚ kick.
- Up tilt - Peach extends her hand upward and briefly generates a heart.
- Down tilt - A downward hand sweep to the ground.
Smash Attacks
- Forward smash - Peach strikes an opponent with one of three weapons:
- A frying pan from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- A golf club from Mario Golf
- A tennis racket from Mario Tennis
- These weapons now come out in a set order: frying pan, tennis racket, then golf club.
- Up Smash - Twirls around with arm raised, while ribbon appears around Peach.
- Down Smash - Spins dress around like a blade, slashing whoever gets caught in it.
Aerial attacks
- Forward aerial - Peach grabs the crown off her head and strikes with it.
- Back aerial - Peach thrusts her rear out behind her.
- Down aerial - A series of four downward kicks.
- Neutral aerial - Spins around with arms extended.
- Up aerial - Waves in the air with a rainbow.
Grabs and throws
- Forward throw - Peach winds up and slaps the opponent away.
- Back throw - Peach takes the opponent behind her, and knocks them away by thrusting her rear.
- Up throw - Puts opponent above her, and volleys him/her upward.
- Down throw - Sits on opponent.
Special Moves
In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants. Peach retains all of her original special moves and her Final Smash.
Neutral Specials | Side Specials | Up Specials | Down Specials |
---|---|---|---|
Toad is equipped by Peach and used as an unwilling counter. In other words, he absorbs damage dealt to his princess before releasing it back. |
Peach Bomber propels Peach forward to deliver a powerful hip bash. |
Peach Parasol allows Peach to perform an upward jump and simultaneously pull out her parasol, jabbing those above her in the process. It can then be used as a directional glide and opened or closed at will. |
Vegetable is a projectile Peach can pluck from the ground as she does in Super Mario Bros. 2. She can then throw it. Along with turnips, Peach can pull out various items ranging from Mr. Saturn to Bob-omb. |
Sleepy Toad[14][15] comes out faster and releases bubbles to inflict the sleep status ailment for a brief amount of time to grounded opponents. Airborn opponents will be pushed back. Sleep duration lasts longer at high percentages. |
Flower Bomber[16] travels on a much shorter distance than regular Peach Bomber. Opponents hit by it will be inflicted the flower status ailment. It deals less base damage (4%, down from 10%). |
Parasol High Jump[17] greatly increases Peach's upward jump. However, she never opens her parasol, leaving herself helpless afterwards. |
Light Veggie[18] is plucked much faster (in a similar way to Brawl's Vegetable) while dealing less damage. It travels the air more slowly and farther ahead. It will also fly back toward Peach if it hits an opponent. The move will fail if there's already two light veggies out. |
Grumpy Toad[19], unlike regular Toad and Sleepy Toad, doesn't act like a counter. Instead, he automatically releases spores to deal minor damage to opponents. |
Flying Peach Bomber[20] travels upward in addition of farther forward. It is harder to land, but it deals more damage (12%, up from 10%) and knockback. |
Light Parasol[21] decreases Peach's initial jump. However, she gains additional vertical recovery every time she opens her parasol. This can be used up to four times while airborn. After the fourth time, Peach will become helpless. |
Heavy Veggie[22] takes longer to be plucked. It flies faster, but may not be thrown as far. It deals considerably more damage and knockback. |
Taunts
- Takes out and twirls her parasol. She says "sweet" as she does this.
- Dances in a taunting manner as little music notes flutter around her. She sings a little tune similar to "Ring Around the Rosie".
- Spins around once. She then winks and points with her index finger in a somewhat bent posture and says "Uh-huh!"
On-Screen Appearance
Appears spinning out of a shower of hearts, then winks and poses with her parasol saying "Hi!".
Victory Fanfare
A flourished remix directly from Brawl based on the sound clip that would play when Mario reaches the end of a level in Super Mario Bros. It is shared with Mario, Luigi, and Dr. Mario.
Trophies
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS trophy descriptions
- Peach
- NA Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach continues to prove that "powerful" and "cute" are not mutually exclusive. In Smash Bros., Peach uses her dress to float above the fray, suddenly descending and attacking with numerous weapons. A frying pan? Umbrella? TOAD?! Where does she keep it all?
- PAL: The Mushroom Kingdoms's princess isn't just a pretty face - she's also strong and crafty. She can dodge attacks by gliding through the air, and she's hiding all sorts of stuff under that dress: a frying pan, a tennis racket, a golf club... even a Toad! If you're planning to take on Peach, just know that she's more than ready for you!
- Peach (All-Star)
- NA: Peach may be a princess, but that doesn't mean she shies away from an honest day's work. Her down special Vegetable is basically farm labor, and the fruits...er, vegetables of her work can be thrown. An angry-looking vegetable will do extra damage, too! She can also pull up Bob-ombs, or even a Mr. Saturn!
- PAL: Peach normally sticks to tasks befitting a royal, but her Vegetable special is pretty much farm labour! You can tell how much damage the veggies will do by looking at them. Happy/indifferent ones do a bit, while the ones that look sick of life do a lot. And the ones that look like Bob-ombs or Mr. Saturn aren't veggies at all!

Trivia
- In the 3DS version of the game, a bug exists where using Peach's Vegetable move in For Glory mode may rarely trigger an automatic ban for "dishonest play".[23] It is unclear what the cause of the glitch is, but the main theories involve the player being flagged as having an illegitimate item. Nintendo has acknowledged the glitch and has released an update that fixes this issue.[24]
