Article on Fire Emblem Wiki Chrom

Chrom (クロム, Chrom) is one of the main protagonists of Fire Emblem Awakening, descendant of Marth, father of Lucina, and close ally to Robin.

Character description

Chrom is one of the three main protagonists of Fire Emblem Awakening. A distant descendant of the Hero-King Marth, Chrom is the prince of the Halidom of Ylisse, younger brother to its leader, the Exalt Emmeryn, and the leader of a group of Ylissean soldiers known as the Shepherds. The story of Awakening begins with Chrom, his sister Lissa, and his bodyguard Frederick, finding an amnesiac tactician by the roadside who joins the Shepherds. After Ylisse's struggle against the neighboring nation of Plegia, Chrom becomes the new Exalt of Ylisse, gets married, and becomes the father of a baby girl, Lucina.

During a war against the warmongering empire of Valm two years later, a time-traveling Lucina from the future of another timeline reveals herself, warning Chrom of the looming threat of the Fell Dragon Grima who had destroyed the world in her timeline. Chrom, Lucina, and the rest of the Shepherds work together to defeat Walhart of Valm, Validar of the Grima-worshipping Grimleal, and Grima himself.

Chrom, like most Fire Emblem protagonists, begins in the Lord class. His signature weapon is Falchion, inherited by the royal family of Ylisse as descendants of Marth; Chrom also uses Falchion's counterpart, the Fire Emblem or Binding Shield. In addition to Lucina, Chrom can also be the father of another child depending on who he marries.

Since Awakening, Chrom has appeared in a number of other games. He makes an appearance in an Awakening-based mission in Fire Emblem Fates, where he meets Corrin. In the crossover game Project X Zone 2, he is one of three playable Nintendo characters (alongside Lucina and Fiora). Chrom is also prominently featured as a major character in both Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE and Fire Emblem Warriors, and is one of the many units the player can recruit in Fire Emblem Heroes.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

Chrom aiding Robin in his Final Smash.

Chrom appears in Lucina and Robin's trailer. In the beginning, he is shown lying on the ground after being incapacitated by Captain Falcon in battle. Lucina defends him, but is almost defeated herself. For the majority of the trailer, he is only seen laying on the ground. However, at the end, still badly hurt, he remarks that he "will get [his] chance another day;" a gameplay video after this scene displaying Robin’s Final Smash then states that Chrom will get his chance today instead. He also appears at the top of Lucina and Robin's poster artwork.

While he was considered to inevitably be a playable character due to the seemingly credible Gematsu leaks, he is not a playable character in SSB4. According to Masahiro Sakurai, he considered adding Chrom as a playable character, but denied him in favor of Robin when he saw that Chrom would end up another swordsman made redundant by the fighting styles of Marth and Ike, while Robin provided a plethora of unique moveset options.[1] This is referenced in Pit's Smash Taunt for Robin, where Palutena and Viridi deride Chrom for being a "carbon copy" of Ike, angering Chrom.

As a background character

In the game, he appears as part of Robin's Final Smash, Pair Up. After being summoned by Robin with warp magic, Chrom lunges in Robin's direction. If he successfully connects with an opponent along the way, he'll launch the opponent into the air and repeatedly attack him or her with his Falchion, while Robin will attack with his tomes. Chrom also appears in one of Robin's victory poses, where the two stand back-to-back, and also appears as a special guest character during Pit's conversations with Palutena in Palutena's Temple if Robin is present. Chrom's portraits and Critical Hit cut-in artwork from Awakening are reused in the aforementioned Smash Taunt and Pair Up, respectively.

As a costume

Chrom's costume serves as a alternate color scheme for Ike. His design is also the basis of a downloadable costume for Mii Swordfighters. Nintendo also released a QR code for those who wish to have the exact Mii used in the costume's advertising.

Though he can get reckless when training—things end up broken—he can be counted on in the heat of battle. He and Robin combine their skills in Robin's Final Smash.

Despite being more than competent in battle, he's rather careless in training and always seems to be breaking things. He and Robin combine their skills in Robin's Final Smash.

Chrom makes his debut as a playable fighter in Ultimate. He is an Echo Fighter of Roy, sharing many moves with Marth, Roy and Lucina; however, his up special is based on Ike's Aether and he also has a unique Final Smash called Awakening Aether, based on Aether's appearance in Fire Emblem Awakening.
