Midna originates from ''{{s|zeldawiki|The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess}}'', where she is one of the main characters. She assists [[Link]] on his quest, especially when he is {{s|zeldawiki|Wolf Link}}, through giving him tips and helping him with her abilities.

Midna was originally a tall, elegant and beautiful woman who acted as the ruler of the Twilight realm (thus the "Twilight Princess"). One day, she was overthrown, transformed into a small imp creature and banished from her home realm by a jealous {{s|zeldawiki|Zant}}. When Midna first encounters Link, she comes off as a hostile and abrasive character, and forces Link in helping her find parts of a dark relic called the {{s|zeldawiki|Fused Shadows}}. Despite acting unaware of what Link had been through prior to that point, Midna knew Link was the hero of Hyrule all along. She initially used him to get revenge on Zant, but their many adventures together, including saving each other's lives multiple times, ultimately showed Midna the selfishness of her ways and her agenda changed to saving both Hyrule and the Twilight realm. While their relationship was initially professional and somewhat manipulative, moments in the game and especially in companion media imply that Midna grew a fondness towards Link, going from seeing him as a dog and a tool for her revenge to a true friend worth fighting for. Her change of heart is further shown when near the end of the game, she warps Link and Zelda out to the Eldin province of {{s|zeldawiki|Hyrule Field}} to safety. Thought to have been killed in her battle with Ganon, Midna was later revived and restored to her true form. Afterwards, she bids Link and Zelda farewell and destroys the {{iw|zeldawiki|Mirror of Twilight}}, making sure Hyrule and the Twilight realm never cross over again.

In Twilight Princess, one of her signature abilities is changing her hair into the shape of a hand and using it to grab objects. The only instance in which this is used to physically grab enemies is during the battle against Ganon. Her hair-hand is used more extensively as a weapon in her ''{{s|zeldawiki|Hyrule Warriors}}'' appearance. These moments were the basis of her mechanics as an assist trophy.

Midna (ミドナ, Midna) is a major character in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Origin[edit]

Midna stopping Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Midna originates from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, where she is one of the main characters. She assists Link on his quest, especially when he is Wolf Link, through giving him tips and helping him with her abilities.

Midna was originally a tall, elegant and beautiful woman who acted as the ruler of the Twilight realm (thus the "Twilight Princess"). One day, she was overthrown, transformed into a small imp creature and banished from her home realm by a jealous Zant. When Midna first encounters Link, she comes off as a hostile and abrasive character, and forces Link in helping her find parts of a dark relic called the Fused Shadows. Her change of heart is further shown when near the end of the game, she warps Link and Zelda out to the Eldin province of Hyrule Field to safety. Thought to have been killed in her battle with Ganon, Midna was later revived and restored to her true form. Afterwards, she bids Link and Zelda farewell and destroys the Mirror of Twilight, making sure Hyrule and the Twilight realm never cross over again.

In Twilight Princess, one of her signature abilities is changing her hair into the shape of a hand and using it to grab objects. The only instance in which this is used to physically grab enemies is during the battle against Ganon. Her hair-hand is used more extensively as a weapon in her Hyrule Warriors appearance. These moments were the basis of her mechanics as an assist trophy.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Midna appears by name in the title of Midna's Lament, an unlockable musical track playable on the Bridge of Eldin stage. Also, she appears in two trophies, and two stickers, though one is alongside Wolf Link.

Midna as she appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Midna appears as an Assist Trophy. Akiko Komoto reprises her role as Midna, with her portrayals being re-purposed from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

She stays in place and attacks nearby players with her hair extended into an arm form, grabbing and throwing anything she can get at. If there are no nearby enemies, Midna will teleport closer. If forced offstage, she will teleport back onstage again. As Midna's attacks are considered grabs, players cannot shield to avoid her attacks, though they can be dodged. Getting grabbed and thrown deals 20% damage total. However, she can be attacked, and eventually defeated. Attacking her constantly can stunlock her for long enough that she disappears without retaliating.

Glitch[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, if Midna is summoned on Rainbow Road and falls off, she may get bugged and constantly attempt to teleport back onstage unsuccessfully, causing her giggling voice line to loop until she disappears.

Trophy[edit]

Midna's trophy appears in both versions. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it is part of the Twilight Princess Trophy Box.
