Midna is a character from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Midna, teams up with the protagonist, Link, to battle a "greater evil" that she alone cannot overcome. In fitting with her dark nature, she has a playfully devilish sense of humor and shows a somewhat cynical demeanor during most of the game. Most of her magical abilities feature her hair taking on the shape of an arm, or having some other relation. Midna, like all creatures from the Twilight Realm, cannot tolerate light, and she hides in Link's shadow when he is in the Light World. The only time she takes her physical form is when he is in the Twilight or is a wolf, or otherwise in a dungeon. This may also imply she cannot fraternize with the light-dwellers. This would seem to fit with Zant's claim that Midna is incapable of consorting with light-dwellers.

Like Navi in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, she acts as a guide who helps the player learn the controls and advance in the game. Unlike the fairy companions, she does not offer information on enemies and talking to her will give Link a small tip on what the player must do to progress or defeat a boss. Whilst Link is in wolf form, she usually rides on his back and assists him with an attack that creates a field of dark energy, allowing Link to lock onto any enemies within it and charge at all of them consecutively. When her icon appears, she can assist Wolf Link with jumps the player normally cannot perform. In the light world, she appears as a somewhat ghostly silhouette out of Link's shadow, yet can still communicate with Link and is needed to pass into the twilight from the "light" world.

Midna (ミドナ, Midna) is a major character in zeldawiki.

Early in the game, Midna will allow Wolf Link to teleport to twilight portals across Hyrule, thus quickly spanning great distances. Once Link obtains the Master Sword, calling Midna will allow Link to freely transform into wolf form and vice versa (except for when in the presence of people, where Midna will then forbid transforming to avoid startling them). Her hair can form into a hand, allowing Link to jump to faraway locations, open doors, or catch charging enemies.

Trivia
Trophy
*Due to her popularity, and Link's visual update to bring him in line with the Twilight Princess games, there was a brief round of rumors stating that Midna would be playable in the game. These rumors were eventually proven false upon the game's release.
{{Trophy
*It should be noted that in the Wii version, her right eye is covered, but in the GameCube version (as well as promotional images), her left eye is covered. This is because during development, the entire game had to be mirrored to make Link fit with the Wii's general right-handed controls (Link is traditionally left-handed). Due to this, the markings covering her body are also reversed in the two versions. On her trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it was all changed back.

Midna (ミドナ, Midna) is a major character in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Origin[edit]

Midna stopping Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Midna originates from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, where she is one of the main characters. She assists Link on his quest, especially when he is Wolf Link, through giving him tips and helping him with her abilities.

Midna was originally a tall, elegant and beautiful woman who acted as the ruler of the Twilight realm (thus the "Twilight Princess"). One day, she was overthrown, transformed into a small imp creature and banished from her home realm by a jealous Zant. When Midna first encounters Link, she comes off as a hostile and abrasive character, and forces Link in helping her find parts of a dark relic called the Fused Shadows. Despite acting unaware of what Link had been through prior to that point, Midna knew Link was the hero of Hyrule all along. She initially used him to get revenge on Zant, but their many adventures together, including saving each other's lives multiple times, ultimately showed Midna the selfishness of her ways and her agenda changed to saving both Hyrule and the Twilight realm. While their relationship was initially professional and somewhat manipulative, moments in the game and especially in companion media imply that Midna grew a fondness towards Link, going from seeing him as a dog and a tool for her revenge to a true friend worth fighting for. Her change of heart is further shown when near the end of the game, she warps Link and Zelda out to the Eldin province of Hyrule Field to safety. Thought to have been killed in her battle with Ganon, Midna was later revived and restored to her true form. Afterwards, she bids Link and Zelda farewell and destroys the Mirror of Twilight, making sure Hyrule and the Twilight realm never cross over again.

In Twilight Princess, one of her signature abilities is changing her hair into the shape of a hand and using it to grab objects. The only instance in which this is used to physically grab enemies is during the battle against Ganon. Her hair-hand is used more extensively as a weapon in her Hyrule Warriors appearance. These moments were the basis of her mechanics as an assist trophy.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Midna appears by name in the title of Midna's Lament, an unlockable musical track playable on the Bridge of Eldin stage. Also, she appears in two trophies, and two stickers, though one is alongside Wolf Link.
