Hotheads (パサラン, Pasaran) are enemies from the Mario series.

Hotheads (パサラン, pasaran) are items that, when thrown, will slide across the ground releasing bursts of sparks and damaging your opponents. When hit with fire or electricity-based attacks, they grow bigger, dealing more knockback. Ness, Lucas, Pikachu, Charizard, Bowser, and Captain Falcon are the best to use when you want the hothead to get big. However, in contrast to what its trophy says, there's an upper limit to how large the Hothead can become (roughly 3 times its original diameter).

Hothead debuted as a throwing/living item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In its stationary state, Hotheads can be picked up and thrown, but will become mobile when thrown. Once they land on the ground or on a platform, they will move along the surface in the direction they were thrown, clinging to the floors and the ceilings of said platforms and periodically release sparks that deal 1.6× more damage. If it moves on a soft platform, the Hothead will fall off of the edge and continue to fall until it lands again or falls off the screen. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Hotheads will change their direction when they travel offstage on flat surfaces instead of disappearing.

Hotheads can also be attacked, causing them to grow larger and deal more damage. They can be attacked both before and after being set into motion. The incoming damage is multiplied by some value and added onto the Hothead's current damage (e.g. a 7% attack and a multiplier of 0.7× will add 4.9%); this new value will used and added onto with further attacks. When the damage it deals reaches certain thresholds (see table below), the damage increase from further incoming attacks will decrease or stop completely after passing the last threshold. In Brawl and Super Smash Bros. 4, only flame and electric attacks can increase the damage, while in Ultimate any attack can increase their size but will receive a 0.3× multiplier alongside the normal multiplier if it is not a flame or electric attack.

In Brawl, the Hothead is one of the main components of the "Lucario Black Hole," a glitch that can crash the game.

It must be picked up and thrown to be activated. Once the Hothead lands on the ground or a platform, it will move along the surface in the direction it was thrown. A Hothead can continue to grow after it is thrown. If it's thrown onto a stage, the Hothead will cling onto the stage's walls and surface. If, however, it lands on a platform, the Hothead will simply roll off until it finds solid ground (or just falls off the screen).  To prevent this happening, throw the hothead down on a solid platform, so that you don't waste getting easy damage. Hotheads eventually disappear in an amount of time inversely proportionate to their size. They can also be reflected while active and reflecting it will change the "owner" of the Hothead to the player who reflected it. After consecutive reflecting the Hothead will still be the same size, but will now be unreflectable and opponents who touch it will receive damage as high as 80% and an instant One-hit KO.
Note: All of these damage percentages were taken with an uncharged Hothead.

Origin
Trophies
In Super Mario World, Hotheads were enemies that appeared inside Wendy Koopa's Castle on World Six, Choco Island. This level largely comprised of stone blocks, which had Hotheads constantly moving around them. Unlike those in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, they were not enlarged by fire and they never disappeared. An interesting fact to note is that there were smaller versions of Hotheads, know as Li'l Sparkies. It is possible that the idea of them getting bigger in SSBB developed from combining the two foes.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
A few hotheads were also featured in some fortresses in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Hotheads (パサラン, Pasaran) are enemies from the Mario series.

Origin[edit]

A Hothead from Super Mario World

Hotheads made their debut in Super Mario World as castle level enemies and has become a recurring enemy in the Mario and Yoshi series. They are large balls of sparkling energy with simple eyes. Hotheads are known for simply moving along platforms and being immune to every attack, except for Invincible Mario.

Overview[edit]

A Hothead emitting sparks.
