Marss is a Smasher from Cranston, Rhode Island who currently resides in Massachusetts. He is known for being one of the best Zero Suit Samus players in two separate Smash titles, as well as one of the best Smash players from New England.
He was first known for his performances in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, where he was considered the second best Zero Suit Samus player in the world after Nairo, appearing on all five iterations of the PGR, ranking top 20 on every list until the PGR v5, and ultimately ranking 16th on the PGR 100. He especially was the undisputed best Smash player in New England up until 2018, becoming the region's primary representative in top competitive play. Although he never won a major, he came close at many events, most notably placing 2nd at The Big House 7.
In-spite of the character's nerfs and initial lukewarm perception, Marss continued to play Zero Suit Samus in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, establishing himself as not only the greatest Zero Suit Samus player of all-time, but also one of the best players during this time. His performances, including winning several majors such as Collision 2019, Smash Factor 8, and GENESIS 7, contributed to an improvement to Zero Suit Samus' perception in the early metagame, leading many to believe the character was a top-tier during this time. Following the pandemic, Marss began shifting his focus towards content creation, and despite seeing some occasional success was never able to achieve the same level of consistency he saw in the early metagame. With Zero Suit Samus' results and perception declining during this time, Marss remains the primary Zero Suit Samus representative in competitive play in spite of his lower activity at open major events.
In addition to singles, Marss is often considered one of the best doubles players in the world, having seen success with a variety of different partners at many majors. He regularly teams with fellow New England player Light, and the pair is considered one of the best doubles teams in the world, especially in the early metagame where they won doubles at Super Smash Con 2019, GENESIS 7, and Frostbite 2020.
PlaystyleEdit
Marss is known for his self-described "read heavy" playstyle, tricky movement, and unorthodox setups, which offensively creates immense pressure in neutral or advantage state, and defensively makes him difficult to hit or follow up on. He is also known for his incredible SDI, which helps him escape combos or guaranteed death.
In Smash 4Edit
Marss has a quick and aggressive approach and punish game, using Zero Suit Samus' strong movement and KO options to net early stocks or create 50/50 situations. He is well known for utilizing Flip Kick to kill in unique setups, such as a ladder airdodge read or a zair ledgegrab dropdown flip kick.[1] Due to Zero Suit's strong recovery, he would often go very deep for an edgeguard. He is also known for his suicide down airs, usually to gain a favorable stock trade or close a game out in style, which many have dubbed the "Marss special". He also played in a way some would consider "disrespectful", such as sandbagging[2] or purposely missing large punishes.
In UltimateEdit
Marss retains his signature aggression and movement, but due to her changes from the previous game, has adapted a more conditioning and callout-based playstyle. While he mostly uses ZSS' usual neutral options, such as zair, nair and up-air, to poke around, he is also known for his unorthodox options, such as his heavy usage of forward-tilt, considered one of Zero Suit's weaker moves, to tech chase and call out dash-ins; and using the first two hits of jab on shield to then grab, or delaying the third hit of her jab to punish parry attempts. Marss rarely resorts to the "timeout ZSS", preferring to overwhelm his opponent with pressure and momentum, and only opting to camp when given no other option. Marss is also well-known for using movement to download and condition an opponent, often dash-dancing at burst range, empty tomahawking, and running into shields to intimidate opponents to stay in shield or jump out.

TriviaEdit
- Marss's habit of rolling his controller's joystick and mashing buttons between matches has led him to be dubbed "The Clacker" by his friends.
- Marss is known to wear pajama pants at tournaments.
- During CEO 2017, Marss notably tweeted that if he were to make top 8 at the tournament, he would wear jeans instead of his signature pajama pants. He was able to do so from losers' side, and as promised, he wore jeans, which were highlighted during his entrance.
- Marss is known for the phrase "ZSS sux" on his Twitter, despite being the best Zero Suit Samus player and one of the best Ultimate players in 2019-20.
- Marss has stated himself that his reaction time is abysmal and he compensates it by guessing what his opponent is going to do.
- His former in-game tags "tendō" and "satori" are references to that and to the Haikyuu!! character Satori Tendō, who suffers the same problem as Marss.[3]
- Marss keeps a whiteboard, colloquially referred to as "The Board", where he tallies every single time he JV four-stocks an opponent.
- Marss is infamous for his flashy playstyle, frequently making risky plays to style on his opponents. Most notably, he often uses Zero Suit Samus's down aerial to meteor smash opponents offstage for a sacrificial KO, despite it being arguably one of her worst moves.
- Marss's YouTube videos are edited to censor or blur out any mention of Shulk; this is mainly due to Marss jokingly saying that the character "cheats" and is not "family-friendly content".
- Marss, in his streaming career, has developed many catchphrases based on Smash.
- Marss sometimes says the phrase "True Combo" when he gets a combo that isn't true.
- He has two catchphrases exclusive to his Donkey Kong, humorously named "Konkey Dong";
- His cargo down throw is known as the "Skill Check" if used to stage spike opponents below the stage; if the opponent does not tech, they fail the skill check.
- Marss's Donkey Kong's up special is referred to as "Big Monkey Swing", most prominently seen to KO opponents on the ground at high percentages.
- Marss's Incineroar is infamous for its usage of forward tilt, dubbed "Cheeto Fingers".
- In a situation where Marss wants to attempt to embarrass his opponent or if he is anticipating someone's shield being broken, he often says, "Don't let it be you!"
- Marss coined the term "Marss Gambit" to describe running up to an opponent and raw up-smashing with Zero Suit Samus, famously using it to take the final stock at GENESIS 7.
- One of Marss's favorite video game series is Fire Emblem, with Path of Radiance being among his favorites in the series.
- Marss is also skilled in tabletop games such as Pandemic.
- Since Marss's 33rd placement at Riptide, several pictures of him posing in result graphics released by Panda have become memes on Twitter.[4]
- The meme was extended to Panda tweeting an edit of WaDi's head on Marss's body for placing 33rd at Mainstage 2021.[5]
- Marss has jokingly called himself the "best smash player in the world" on his YouTube channel and often makes jokes about how he plays the game as a content creator.
- During Smash Ultimate Summit 4, a side-event was held that was a series of board games. As a joke, Marss threw the toy Penguin from Don't Break the Ice! across the venue and ended up breaking a large TV.
