The Super Launch Star (スーパースターリング, Super Star Ring) is an item from the Super Smash Bros. series, based on the Launch Star from the Mario series.
Origin[edit]
Launch Star made their debut in Super Mario Galaxy and has become a recurring item in the Super Mario Galaxy series. It allows the player to jump inside one and launch them, either to a new galaxy, or along a set path to another galaxy. Launch Stars may be found broken up into five Star Chips, after defeating a set number of enemies, or after a Luma transforms into one. A smaller variant known as a Sling Star exists.
Overview[edit]
As an item[edit]
The Super Launch Star debuted as a throwing/trapping item in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It will appear small when appearing on a stage, but when picked up and thrown, they will become larger, float in the air, and aim in the direction it was thrown. It will stay in place for around 10 seconds after being thrown before disappearing.
When a fighter touches the Super Launch Star hovering in the air, it will launch them, doing no damage but dealing heavy knockback. The knockback will scale up with damage (with a limit of 50%) and is usually well enough to rocket characters over blast lines, especially if it was pointing upwards, making it a significant hazard on all but the largest stages.
Spirits[edit]
Equipping the Luma, Warp Star, Gracie, Ouendan Cheerleaders, Elite Beat Divas, or Shop Assistant support spirits will give the player a Super Launch Star at a start of their stock.
