Dharkon (ダーズ, Darz) is one of the two main antagonists of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Adventure Mode: World of Light and the dark counterpart of Galeem, he is described as the "Embodiment of Chaos and Darkness" in the World of Light.

History

After Galeem's first defeat, Dharkon appears from a crack in the sky, commanding an army of Crazy Hands. After the Crazy Hands briefly fight the Master Hands and win, Galeem proceeds to flee. Dharkon proceeds to take control of the remaining captive fighters and Spirits and creates a world of darkness. After Dharkon's first defeat, he proceeds to flee into the final world, with Galeem following soon after. In the final world, Galeem and Dharkon wage war against each other, but are also seeking to destroy the fighters. If only Galeem is defeated, Dharkon destroys Galeem's army and shackles him in chains before engulfing the world in darkness, resulting in one of two bad endings. The True ending can be obtained by defeating both Dharkon and Galeem. Both Dharkon and Galeem are finally defeated, falling into the sea and exploding as their army disappears.

Battle

Dharkon can only be damaged by attacking its eye. It has the following attacks:

  • Dharkon creates three small plus-shaped objects that explode in beams of darkness like X Bombs.
  • Dharkon creates beams of darkness, when he slams into the ground.
  • Dharkon uses three of his tentacles to immediately attack the player. Then, Dharkon's eye will be exposed, being attached on the third temtacle
  • Dharkon produces two False characters to support it. These false characters will eventually self-destruct after a period of time.
  • Dharkon creates a dark portal, unravel his tentacles and strike the player with a powerful charge attack.
  • A crisscrossing mass of small purple lines appear on the screen, which will mark the position of powerful laser beams. The beams deal heavy damage but can be avoided with extremely precise positioning.

Trivia

  • Dharkon's name is a corruption of the word "darken", similarly to how Galeem's name is a corruption of "gleam".
  • Dharkon's appearance of being an organic mass of tentacles resembles Azathoth, a being featured in the Cthulhu mythos. Along with his single slitted eye, he could also be compared to Shuma-Gorath and Yog-Sothoth.
