Meta Knight does a quick slash beneath him, similar to his up aerial. It has the quickest start-up for a down aerial, and has little endlag as well. The very beginning of the arc is a semi-spike, like in Brawl. However, the rest of the hitboxes have a slightly higher trajectory, though it still puts opponents in a dangerous position. Though it may not be as deadly as previously, Meta Knight's increased air and fall speeds could potentially allow him to perform a wall of pain with this move. Additionally, the move's higher launch angle means it can combo into a forward aerial. Down aerial's speed and decent range, combined with Meta Knight's jumps, give him a useful tool to pressure grounded opponents. Lastly, at higher percents, its low trajectory can start tech-chases, potentially leading into one of his KO moves.
Overall, this move's favorable angle and decent knockback grant it good offstage utility, especially against characters who lack a diagonal recovery, notably Ike. Offstage, it kills outright below 150%.
