His appearance has been upgraded since his last appearance, and he is significantly more muscular than in his previous Smash appearances.
Changes from Brawl
Being considered one of the worst characters in Brawl, Captain Falcon has been buffed up considerably. He also significantly benefits from the removal of hitstun cancelling, which restored his infamous comboing ability.
Ground attacks
- Captain Falcon's jab is improved
- The Gentleman (neutral attack 3) has been strengthened, and now initiates independently of the infinite strike, making it much easier to use and allows it to be skipped upon initiating the infinite, keeping it from knocking opponents out of the infinite's reach.
- The new neutral infinite finisher has surprisingly large range and high knockback. Combined with the previous point, Falcon is no longer left as open if he initiates the infinite.
- Forward tilt is faster.
- Up tilt can now meteor smash if the foot is landed.
- Up tilt's non-meteor smash hitbox now launches opponents at a higher trajectory however, slightly nerfing its KOing ability.
- Down tilt sends opponents at a semi-spike trajectory, allowing it to set up tech-chases, setup edge-guards, and edge-guard effectively itself. It additionally has slightly less ending lag.
- Dash attack is significantly more powerful.
- Forward smash has increased reach, and is slightly more powerful.
- Up smash has faster start-up and ending lag.
- The knockback properties of the kicks in Captain Falcon's down smash have been reversed, with the back kick now being more powerful.
Aerial attacks
- Neutral aerial has slightly less landing lag.
- Knee Smash (forward aerial) sweetspot is easier to land and deals 1% more damage. It additionally has slightly less startup lag, which when combined with the removal of hitstun cancelling and the increased gameplay speed, also make it easier to combo into.
- Knee Smash however has significantly more landing lag, and can no longer autocancel from a short hop.
- Back aerial has increased reach, its initial hitbox has a slightly greater duration, and it has reduced landing lag.
- Up aerial's trajectory has been reverted to its Smash 64 iteration, making it a much better combo move. It also has reduced landing lag.
- Down aerial has slightly larger hitboxes, and reduced landing lag.
Throws/other attacks
- Captain Falcon's dash grab covers significantly ground, making it much easier for Falcon to grab opponents.
- Forward and down throws have less ending lag, which allows them to lead into followups more effectively.
- Down throw deals slightly less damage however.
- Back throw deals increased knockback, now giving it potential to KO at high damages on the ledge and setup edgeguards easier. It also deals 1% more damage.
Special moves
- Falcon Punch now moves Captain Falcon a fair distance forwards, improving the move's range.
- The move deals slightly weaker knockback however.
- Raptor Boost deals more damage, covers more range, and has significantly increased knockback scaling, making it now a reliable KO move below 150% while retaining its combo ability at low percents.
- Raptor Boost has more ending lag however, and the aerial version gives less height when landed and is no longer a guaranteed meteor smash.
- Falcon Dive has a much faster startup, and covers more distance while losing less momentum.
- Falcon Dive additionally has more intense visual effects.
- Falcon Kick is much stronger, with a grounded hit being able to KO at 140%, and opponents can no longer punish Captain Falcon for landing it at low damages.
- Blue Falcon has a larger hitbox upon startup.

- Captain Falcon
- In the F-Zero racing scene, Captain Falcon uses his Blue Falcon to win big. His origin largely a mystery, he's made his way to the Smash Bros. battlefield to prove his worth outside the cockpit. He's got speed and power, and his distinct Falcon Punch leaves a dent. Start it in the air to surprise your foes!
- Captain Falcon (Alt.)
- Captain Falcon's default down special, Falcon Kick, is no ordinary kick—it surges forward in a fiery blaze. It's a versatile attack that moves sideways on the ground and diagonally down in the air. His forward air attack, Knee Smash, can send an enemy flying for miles if hit just right.
