The Super Leaf (スーパーこのは, Super Leaf) is an item from the Mario universe that appears in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It gives the player raccoon ears and a tail, allowing them to float for about 3 seconds by holding the jump button in a similar manner to Peach's ability; unlike hers, though, the player will still slowly descend. If released before its time runs out, one can reactivate it at any time by holding down the jump button again. While floating, a character can still perform all of their attacks as normal. It can not be used while in a helpless state, such as after many characters' up-special moves.
If Peach uses it, then her own float ability will activate first. As soon as she stops using her float ability, or its time runs out, then the Super Leaf's effect will become active.
Prior to becoming an item, it was mentioned in passing in the trophy description for Raccoon Mario in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Origin
Super Leaves first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 as a power-up item and have returned in Super Mario 3D Land and numerous games since. It turned Mario and Luigi into Raccoon Mario and Raccoon Luigi, respectively (Fox Luigi in New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Tanooki Mario and Kitsune Luigi instead in Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World), which let them slow descent (or briefly fly if they ran far enough) by waving the tail, and to attack enemies and hit blocks by swinging their tail. The design of the leaf itself is based around their recent redesign in Mario games. Its functions in Super Smash Bros. 4 are similar; it gives the fighter raccoon ears and a tail like Raccoon Mario, and allows the player to slow his or her fall, like in the Mario series. However, it does not allow the character to fly after running far enough or attack with the tail.
Trophy information
Transform into an adorable version of your normal self thanks to some raccoon ears and a fluffy tail. Unfortunately, you won't be able to fly through the air like Tanooki Mario—but you can hover for a bit by wiggling that tail. Hold the jump button while airborne to pull off this cute tactic.
This item gives you fuzzy ears and a tail. Remember, when it's just ears and a tail, he's Raccoon Mario - Tanooki Mario is the full suit. You won't be able to soar into the air like in Super Mario Bros. 3, but you can float by holding the jump button while in mid-air.

Trivia
- At one point in time, it had been considered to allow characters to attack with their tail, another feature this power-up gives in the Mario games, though it was decided against before the final release.
- Characters that naturally have a tail will have a second tail upon picking up the Super Leaf. Conversely, the raccoon ears are not visible on characters that already have pointed ears (with Fox and Lucario being two examples).
- Although Luigi's Raccoon and Tanooki forms are Kitsune-themed (as of Super Mario 3D Land), he is seen in Raccoon form in Super Smash Bros. 4.
- For unknown reasons, Meta Knight, Olimar, Ness, Lucas, and Mewtwo cannot float with the Super Leaf and simultaneously perform aerials.
- When a Mii Fighter grabs a Super Leaf, they will only gain raccoon ears if they are not wearing any headgear; if they are, then only the tail will appear.
- Bowser and Mr. Game & Watch can cancel the falling in their stall-then-fall down aerials by activating the Super Leaf float after initiating their down aerials.
- Toon Link can also do this, but only if he hits an opponent.
