Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4
Aesthetics
- Although the primary aesthetic is nearly identical to the previous entry, Bowser's overall appearance was given more detail and slightly darkened in colour, akin to Brawl while retaining the brighter colours of SSB4.
- Bowser's side taunt animation has been updated, to match his upright stance.
- Fire Breath is more vibrant in color as opposed to the more realistic flame in SSB4.
Attributes
- Giga Bowser's functionality has drastically changed: rather than utilizing Bowser's Brawl moveset, he teleports to the background of the stage and aims a single OHKO punch, similar to how the Dragoon functions. This move forces a Screen KO on its victims.
Ground attacks
- Down tilt can now trip opponents.
- The first attack in Bowser's neutral combo is now a Sumo-style palm strike. The second, however, is still the same punch as in SSB4.
- Down Smash has been altered to a grounded claw swipe that hits forward, then backward.
Special moves
- Whirling Fortress spins more at an angle than in previous entries.
Aerial moves
- Bowser's neutral aerial has been changed from a circular flip in mid-air to a simple mid-air shell spin. This is similar to his neutral aerial in Melee and Brawl, though the shell spins circularly.
Trivia
- Bowser's official artwork resembles a pose he commonly makes for Mario games, being almost identical to official art for Super Mario 64 DS, Fortune Street and Mario Party 10.
