Golden Plains[1] is a stage in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. The stage features many coins for fighters to collect, and by collecting 100 coins a fighter can temporarily become a gold version of themselves with stronger attacks and knockback resistance.

Level Layout

The overall layout of the stage is unknown, but it seems to be a side-scrolling stage similar to Mushroomy Kingdom. Several elements from the New Super Mario Bros. series, including thin platforms and pits, appear. The stage features many coins for fighters to collect, and by collecting 100 coins a fighter becomes a temporary gold version of themselves called a Gold Fighter. Gold Fighters have stronger attacks and do not flinch from opponent's attacks.

Origin

Golden Plains is based on New Super Mario Bros. 2. Collecting coins was a major part of that game. This translates into Golden Plains's main gimmick of collecting coins. In all installments of the Super Mario Bros. series (except Super Mario Bros. 2) and the Super Mario 3D series, collecting 100 coins results in earning an extra life. New Super Mario Bros. 2 introduced a power-up called the Gold Fower, transforming Mario into Gold Mario. Gold Mario could throw golden fireballs that turned several objects, including brick blocks, into coins. Gold forms of characters with stronger atfacks appear upon collecting 100 coins on this stage.
