Item class Damage Recovering

The Heart Container (ハートのうつわ, hāto no utsuwa) is an item that will reduce the damage of the character who picks it up. In Super Smash Bros., the Heart Container reduces a character's damage to 0%, but in Melee and Brawl, it only recovers 100%. In the original and Melee, a player cannot take any damage for the short amount of time that the heart spends replenishing health. In Brawl, any damage received will be subtracted from 100% and it will still heal the player.

A Heart Container as it originally appeared in The Legend of Zelda.

The Heart Container made it's first appearance in The Legend of Zelda. At the beginning of The Legend of Zelda, Link starts off with three hearts. When Link finds a Heart Container, it gives him one heart; however, it was not used to replenish his health. In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, when Link finds a Heart Container, it gives him another heart and replenishes his health. This was also true in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In the Super Smash Bros. series, the Heart Container is used for lowering 100% percent of damage. This is a reference to the Heart Containers that appear in Link's Awaking and the Zelda games afterwards, but it does not completely restore the player's health in the Super Smash Bros. games. In Super Smash Bros. and Melee, the Heart Container appears as it does in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, its appearance changed in Brawl to its The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess appearance, similar to Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. [1]

Super Smash Bros.

In Super Smash Bros., a Heart Container will restore all damage up to 999%.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Heart Containers heal 100% of damage when used in battles.

In SSBM's All-Star Mode, every character must be fought consecutively with only three special Heart Containers used to heal between matches. In this mode, they will completely heal the character. In Melee, if the player enters the teleporter before they finish healing, it stops wherever the player entered; however, in Brawl, they are fully healed.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Heart Containers in Super Smash Bros. Brawl are the same as their Melee counterparts, except the item's design now uses the model from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. SSBB's All-Star and Boss Battles Mode both include 3 Heart Containers, but five of the special Heart Containers are available if co-op play is chosen.

Zelda series characters can use a Piece of Heart sticker that will add an additional 50% to the Heart Container's healing effect in Subspace Emissary mode.

In All-Star Mode, Heart Containers heal all health, the same way they do in Melee.

Trophy Information

Melee Trophy

Melee

Heart Containers drift toward the ground slowly and replenish 100 percentage points of health. In The Legend of Zelda, these items beefed up Link's life meter; in most cases, Link found them in the possession of bosses or hidden in secret areas. Heart Containers are often scattered across the land in several fragments.

Brawl

The best recovery item! Grab this and heal 100 percentage points of damage. It falls slowly, so it's best to grab it in midair. Damage recovery won't happen instantly, though, so try not to get launched while your damage is counting down. In the Legend of Zelda series, Heart Containers raise the player's maximum health. Bosses always have one in their possession.
