Fox (フォックス, Fox) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Mike West, Fox's voice actor from Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Zero, reprises his role with new voice clips.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

NOTE: SmashWiki is not speculative. Please refrain from adding detailed data values derived from pre-release gameplay footage, such as the E3 demo. Such data (damage values, launch trajectories, frame data, etc.) are subject to change before the official release.

Aesthetics

  •   While Fox retains some design elements from SSB4, he now wears his flight suit and headset from Star Fox Zero. The proportions in his head have been slightly altered, and his fur is more pronounced. Fox now also has visible whiskers.
  •   Like all characters, Fox is significantly more expressive than in previous games.
  •   Up taunt has a different ending animation.
  •   Side taunt has been slightly reanimated: Fox now spins his Blaster in his hand rather than tossing it in the air.

Attributes

  •   Like all characters, Fox's jumpsquat animation now only takes three frames to complete.

Ground attacks

  •   Fox's neutral attack is slightly re-animated, with him standing more upright rather than lunging forward.
  •   Forward tilt does less damage.
  •   Up tilt has increased knockback. This improves its KO potential, but worsens its combo potential at higher percents.
  •   Down tilt has more ending lag.
  •   Sourspotted down tilt sends opponents at a better angle for combos.
  •   Dash attack has less follow up potential.
  •   Forward smash has significantly higher knockback.
  •   Forward smash travels a shorter distance.
  •   Up smash's ending animation has been modified: Fox now does a three point landing after doing his up smash.
  •   Up smash has a significantly larger hitbox, now being able to hit characters from the bottom platforms of Battlefield.

Aerial attacks

  •   All aerials have less landing lag.
  •   Forward aerial has a greater hover effect, aiding Fox's recovery.
  •   Forward aerial cannot connect reliably.
  •   Forward aerial has an altered animation.
  •   Back aerial has more knockback.
  •   Back aerial has an altered animation, with Fox facing more towards the screen.
  •   Up aerial has less knockback.

Throws/other attacks

  •   Down throw has less follow up potential.
  •   Pummel is slower. However, Fox can still get as many pummels in a single grab as he could in Smash 4.

Special Moves

  •   Fox Illusion has more startup lag, and more ending lag when used on the ground. Additionally, it has slightly less range. Lastly, the move will immediately halt when it hits a shielded opponent.
  •   Fire Fox has slightly more knockback, making the move riskier to edgeguard.
  •   Fire Fox's charging animation has been altered, and Fox glances up before firing.
  •   Fire Fox travels a shorter distance.
  •   Reflector can only stall Fox once in the air before landing.
  •   Reflector comes out faster.
  •   Reflector appears to be more green in color.
  •   Fox has a new Final Smash involving an Arwing strike.
