Robin (ルフレ, Reflet) is a newcomer in Super Smash Bros. 4. Robin was confirmed during a live stream on the official Smash Bros. website on July 14, 2014. July 14 is one day before Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo: Hikari to Kage no EiyūShe was released in 2010, and it is 2 days before Fire Emblem for the GBA was released in 2003. As with Wii Fit Trainer and Villager, both male and female variants of Robin appear in SSB4, just like how players could select a gender for the character in Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Moveset
- If one of Robin's tomes run out, Robin will throw the book away, however if the book has not touched the ground it can be picked up and thrown at opponents dealing 17% damage.
Ground attacks
Normal
- Neutral attack - Robin starts with an upward slash, followed by a downward slash if A is pressed immediately after, each doing 3% damage. Robin can then finish in two different ways; The first is a Fire based finisher (A high-knockback explosion) if "A" is held after the first two hits, dealing 5% damage, and can KO around 170%. The second finisher involves a Wind based attack (A barrage of wind blades) that can hit multiple times by mashing "A", doing around 5-8% damage depending on what hits connect. Using either finisher counts as consuming a tome.
- Dash attack - A short sword stab close to Robin's body, has poor recovery and little KO potential.
- Forward tilt - A sword slash angled slightly downward. 7% damage. Good for spacing, but poor KO potential.
- Up tilt - An upward sword slash, dealing 6% damage. Primarily an anti-air, little horizontal reach, and also isn't particularly powerful knock back-wise.
- Down tilt - A very quick downward slash, with quick recovery time. 6% damage. Knocks enemy down and away, around 150% causes a hard knockdown.
Smash attacks
- Forward smash - A sword stab in front of Robin, a viable close range punish. Without Levin Sword, KOs around 175%, doing 9% damage. With Levin Sword, can KO around 130%, dealing 16% damage.
- Up smash - An upwards slash, without Levin sword does 9% with poor knock back and horizontal reach. With Levin Sword, does 15% if hit at the tip, and 10% for side hitboxes. When tipped with Levin, can kill around 110%.
- Down smash - An overhead slash aimed in front of Robin. Without Levin Sword, does 8% and kills around 150%, and with Levin Sword, deals 15% damage, KOs around 110%, and has a backwards shockwave effect, which does 8% damage.
Aerial attacks
- Neutral aerial - A double slash, each hit doing 7% damage. Poor knock back and not optimal for approaching.
- Forward aerial - Robin winds up and then does a swooping forward slash. With the Bronze sword, it does 6% damage and has very poor KO potential. With Levin Sword, does 11% damage and can KO around 140%.
- Back aerial - Robin leans back for a slash, angled a little downward. 9% damage with Bronze Sword, and 13% with Levin Sword. With Levin Sword, KOs around 110%.
- Up aerial - An upwards slash in a similar fashion to Marth's. 7% damage with Bronze Sword and KOs around 155%, 13% damage with Levin Sword, and KOs around 110%.
- Down aerial - A downward one-handed slash that also hits slightly in front of Robin. 7% damage with Bronze Sword. With Levin Sword, does 12% hitting the bottom, 10% hitting the side.
Grabs and throws
- Grab - A short ranged magical grab with long ending lag.
- Pummel - Zaps opponent for 3% damage, is fairly slow.
- Forward throw - Flings opponent in front of Robin. Seemingly impossible to KO with even at extreme percents, can be followed up with Thoron. 8% damage.
- Back throw - Turns around and tosses the foe a fair distance above and behind Robin, usually out of reach of a follow up combo. 11% damage.
- Up throw - Sends foe up for 8% damage, with little KO power or combo potential.
- Down throw - Slams foe down, bounces them vertically. Potential for UAir follow ups at low percents. 6% damage.
Special Moves
In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants. These are Robin's special moves:
Special Move | Basic | Custom 1 | Custom 2 |
---|---|---|---|
Neutral Special | Thunder | Thunder+ | Speed Thunder |
Side Special | Arcfire | Arcfire+ | Fire Wall |
Up Special | Elwind | Soaring Elwind | Gliding Elwind |
Down Special | Nosferatu | Distant Nosferatu | Goetia |

Durability System
Robin has a mechanic that is unused by any other character, called durability. As a reference to the Fire Emblem series, where items would break after being used too many times, most of Robin's weaponry will break if they are used too often. After a weapon of Robin's breaks, the player will be temporarily unable to use it; in the case of tome based attacks, Robin will perform the animation, but no hitboxes are produced, and for his Levin Sword, all such attacks use his Bronze Sword, which cannot break, but is also considerably weaker than his Levin Sword. All broken weaponry respawns after some time, and being KOed recovers all weapons; furthermore, broken weaponry is dropped by Robin and they can be picked up by players as potential throwing weapons, with decent damage and knockback. Uses do not replenish while Robin is using a tome, and the only way to refresh the number of uses on a weapon is to get a new copy of it. Respawn times are also unaffected by custom movesets.
- Thunder has 20 points of durability and each of the different variations of Thunder have different durability costs; Thunder+, a custom version of Thunder, has only ten durability. Even if the tome has less durability than the spell requires, it can still be performed, though the tome will immediately break afteward. Thunder respawns ten seconds after breaking.
- Thunder uses 1 durability in both its regular and Thunder+ variants.
- Elthunder uses 3 durability in its regular variant and 2.5 durability in its Thunder+ variant.
- Arcthunder uses 5 durability in its regular variant and 4.5 durability in its Thunder+ variant.
- Thoron uses 8 durability in its regular variant and 10 durability in its Thunder+ variant.
- Arcfire and its jab combo finisher involving fire both cost the same durability and can be used six times total before the tome breaks. Since they draw from the same pool of durability, if Robin uses Arcfire 3 times and his jab combo finisher involving fire 3 times as well, the tome breaks. Arcfire respawns ten seconds after breaking.
- Elwind and his jab combo finisher involving wind also pull from the same pool. Elwind can be used 9 times total before the book expires. Elwind respawns six seconds after breaking.
- Nosferatu has 4 uses. It respawns forty seconds after breaking.
- Robin's Levin Sword also uses the durability system, and it can only use 8 attacks of any kind before it is destroyed. The Levin Sword respawns six seconds after breaking.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS trophy descriptions
- Robin
- This is the male Robin, your avatar in Fire Emblem Awakening. The goal of this adventure doesn't change much because of your gender choice, but Robin's marriage options do. In Smash Bros., Robin brings powerful magic and swordplay to bear. He can exhaust his moves, but they'll be restored over time.
- Robin (All-Star)
- Robin's magic is powerful, but it has limited uses before needing to recharge. Thunder can be charged in stages, will become Thoron at max charge, and gains damage and speed with its charge. Arcfire creates a flame pillar, perfect for dealing with an edge-clinging foe.

Trivia
- Robin's poster on the official site is illustrated by Yusuke Kozaki, the art director of Fire Emblem Awakening.
- The official art of the Wii Fit Trainer and Villager has only their female and male forms respectively, making Robin the first character on the site to have their official art incorporate both the female and male versions (not counting the Mii Fighters, which have distinct fighting styles).
- Robin is the first and so far only Fire Emblem representative not to have Counter as a down special move and a neutral special move involving a charged sword strike.
- Robin is also the first Fire Emblem representative to have a projectile.
- Robin and Bowser Jr. are the only characters in Super Smash Bros. 4 that have different poses for some or all of their costumes.
- Robin, Bowser Jr., Wii Fit Trainer, and the Villager are the only characters to have a gender swap for at least one of their costumes (excluding Mii Fighters).
