The Boomerang (ブーメラン, Boomerang) is an item from the Mario series.
Origin
The Boomerang made its debut in Super Mario Bros. 3 as the Boomerang Bro's weapon of choice. In Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, a Boomerang item was included in the game's remake for the Game Boy Advance, which could be caught and reused, but it could only be accessed through a special e-Reader card released only in Japan.
In Super Mario 3D Land, the Boomerang Flower power-up allows the player to turn into Boomerang Mario, who can use the Boomerangs to attack enemies from afar and/or collect items from a distance, such as coins. In Mario Kart 8, acquiring the Boomerang Flower allows the racers to throw the Boomerang three times.
Overview
As an item
The Boomerang debuted as a throwing item in Super Smash Bros. 4.
The Boomerang can be thrown to attack other players. After reaching a set maximum distance, it returns to its owner and is automatically caught on contact. Whenever this happens, the Boomerang becomes more powerful; however, it can also be caught by opponents. Once thrown, it will deal 2% damage being thrown out and 1% returning. When it is caught, its damage output adds 2% being thrown out and 1% return. After being caught six times, its damage output will deal a maximum of 14% being thrown out and 7% returning.
The Boomerang does not need to hit an opponent for the multiplier to occur, but it does require the Boomerang to return from a full throw without hitting any solid surfaces. The Boomerang will drop if thrown into the floor from a standing position or if it hits something solid on its return trip and must be picked up again. In either case, its multiplier will reset.
The Boomerang returns in Ultimate, with its knockback being buffed significantly: if caught and rethrown enough times, the Boomerang gains enough knockback to KO at reasonable percentages.
Trophy
The Boomerang trophy appears in both versions. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it is part of the Gunner Trophy Box.
- Boomerang
- Boomerang Mario would use this item to collect faraway items and defeat distant enemies. In Smash Bros., it can be thrown up, down, left, or right. If you throw it, you can catch it again on the return trip. The boomerang gains power with each throw, so try to keep catching it!
- As thrown by Boomerang Mario! He used this to hit enemies and collect faraway items. Here, though, you can throw it up, down or to the side, then touch it when it flies back to catch it. Simple! And as long as you don't drop it, it'll get more and more powerful with every throw, so make sure you do catch it, all right?
