Zelda (ゼルダ, Zeruda) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. She was announced on December 26, 2013, the date on which The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was released in Japan. Sheik also returns as a playable character, but fully separate and not accessible via transformation. Unlike other The Legend of Zelda characters, Zelda did not get any notable appearance changes, sporting the same realistic look from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that she had in Brawl, albeit with general graphical upgrades.
Her voice actor is Jun Mizusawa, who voiced her in Melee, Brawl, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess.
Changes from Brawl
Without the ability to transform into Sheik, Zelda has been changed to allow her to stand on her own.
- Forward tilt, up smash and neutral aerial have been buffed.
- Din's Fire will receive additional buffing, with its explosion now growing larger the longer the move is projected, and it'll now have a more powerful sweet spot at the center of the explosion, though the extent of the sweet spot's power and the explosion's greater potential size has not been explicitly stated.
- Has lost the ability to Transform into Sheik, with the latter becoming her own separate character. To replace Transform, Zelda has a new down special move called Phantom Slash, where she summons a Phantom Armor that shoots out like a projectile, before materialising and attacking. It can also block attacks, and it appears it can be charged to summon the Phantom at farther distances; the Phantom can be reflected as well.
- Up aerial deals 1% more damage than in Brawl.
- Down aerial's sweetspot deals 3% more damage, and appears to have a slightly longer horizontal range.
- Down tilt has slightly longer horizontal range, and noticeably less ending lag.
- Sweetspotted dash attack deals slightly more damage than in Brawl. It also appears to have strengthened somewhat.
- Nayru's Love has been sped up.
- However, it deals less damage.
- Zelda's up tilt is much weaker, now made for combos but weakening its KO power. It also deals half the damage it dealt in Brawl.
- Farore's Wind appears to have lowered scaling.
- It is much stronger upon reappearing and deals more damage, however.
- Down throw deals less damage.
- Dash attack's late hit deals slightly less damage.
- Forward tilt has new visual effects to match its slash effect.
- It no longer sends opponents backwards, removing its combo potential.
- Zelda seems to have gotten a new air dodge animation. She now does a pose similar to Zero Suit Samus's air dodge's pose.
- Zelda has a new sidestep pose. It now resembles Peach's.
- The following moves appear visually unchanged:
- Neutral attack
- Down tilt
- Forward smash
- Back aerial
- Pummel
- Back throw
- Light Arrow
- All taunts
- Rolling animation

- Zelda
- This is the namesake of the Legend of Zelda games. Her appearance may change, but she always plays an important role. In Smash Bros., she's quick on the draw when it comes to magic, though a bit slow when moving. She has a new move that summons a Phantom to her aid.
- Zelda (All-Star)
- Zelda's forward air attack, Lightning Kick, is a valiant kick with a magically charged tip. Striking with just the glowing spot will deal heavy damage and launch your opponent. Din's Fire, her explosive side special, can be guided up and down and has a greater blast if the button is held.
- Young Zelda (Ocarina of Time)
- NA: The Princess of Hyrule chosen by the goddesses. Zelda dreams of a darkness descending on Hyrule and tells Link where he must travel next. Fleeing Ganondorf, she gives Link the Ocarina of Time. It is seven long years before he is heard from again...
- PAL: The Princess of Hyrule. Having dreamt of the world being engulfed by darkness, she asks Link for his help and tells him the secret to entering the Scared Realm. Later, while fleeing from Ganondorf, she frantically throws the Ocarina of Time for Link to take. Seven long years pass before the two meet again.
- Adult Zelda (Ocarina of Time)
- NA: In the seven years following Link's disappearance, Hyrule falls under the rule of the evil Ganondorf and Zelda grows into a young woman. To help Link in his quest to find the seven Sages, she takes on the guise of a young man named Sheik. The real identity of this mysterious helper is just one of the surprises awaiting Link.
- PAL: In the seven years after Link's vanishing, Hyrule falls under the rule of the evil Ganondorf, and Zelda grows into a young woman. To help Link in his quest to find the seven Sages, she takes on the guise of a young man and becomes Sheik. The real identity of this mysterious helper is just one the surprises awaiting Link.
