Roy (ロイ, Roy) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was officially confirmed on June 12th, 2018.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

An icon used in notice templates. NOTE: SmashWiki is not speculative. Please refrain from adding detailed data values derived from pre-release gameplay footage, such as the E3 demo. Such data (damage values, launch trajectories, frame data, etc.) are subject to change before the official release.

Aesthetics

  • Change As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Roy's model features a more subdued color scheme.
  • Change Roy's dashing animation has been altered.
  • Change Some of Roy's moves, such as his down aerial, have fire effects added to them.
  • Change Roy's sweetspotted moves now use the sound effects from Ike's sword, Ragnell.

Attributes

  • Buff Like all characters, Roy’s jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.

Ground Attacks

  • Buff Roy's neutral attack appears to have an altered animation, granting it more vertical range.

Aerial Attacks

  • Buff Down aerial has less landing lag.

Special Moves

  • Buff As with Marth and Lucina's Dancing Blade, Double-Edge Dance transitions significantly faster into each hit.
  • Buff Like with most non-storeable charge moves, Roy can now turn Flare Blade to the opposite direction while charging the move.
  • Change Roy now removes the Binding Blade from his sheath once he has finished sheathing it in Critical Hit.

Trivia

  • Roy's pose in his official artwork resembles his forward tilt.
    • It also resembles his pose from his Smash 4 reveal trailer.
  • Roy is the first fighter to be introduced as a clone and later have an echo of their own in a later installment.
