Zelda (SSB4)

Zelda (ゼルダ, Zeruda) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. She was announced on December 26, 2013, the date on which The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was released in Japan. Sheik also returns as a playable character, but fully separate and not accessible via transformation. Unlike other The Legend of Zelda characters, Zelda did not get any notable appearance changes, sporting the same realistic look from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that she had in Brawl, albeit with general graphical upgrades.

Her voice actress is Jun Mizusawa, who voiced her in Melee, Brawl, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess.

Changes from Brawl

Without the ability to transform into Sheik, Zelda has been significantly buffed to allow her to stand on her own, most notably with the addition of an drastically more effective and powerful projectile than the nearly useless Din's Fire in her Phantom Slash.

  • Nerf Forward tilt, up smash and neutral aerial have been nerfed in damage and hitbox sizes.
  • Nerf Forward smash is even more unreliable.
  • Buff The explosion made when Din's Fire now grows larger the longer the move is projected, and it has a more powerful sweet spot at the center of the explosion.
  • Nerf Despite this, the range and hitbox size of Din's Fire has been reduced, making it significantly worse than in Brawl.
  • Buff Zelda has lost the ability to Transform into Sheik, with the latter becoming her own separate character. To replace Transform, Zelda has a new down special move called Phantom Slash, where she summons a Phantom Armor that shoots out like a projectile, before materialising and attacking. It can also block attacks, and it appears it can be charged to summon the Phantom at farther distances; the Phantom can be reflected as well.
  • Nerf Down smash is slightly weaker, has less range and lost the intangibility on her leg.
  • Nerf Both Lightning Kicks (fair and bair) are weaker and have significantly longer landing lag.
  • Buff Down aerial's sweetspot deals more damage, and has a bigger hitbox. It can now land on grounded opponents.
  • Nerf Down tilt does significantly less damage and no longer locks.
  • Nerf Late dash attack deals less damage than in Brawl.
  • Nerf Nayru's Love deals less damage.
  • Buff Farore's Wind is now a very deadly K.O. move upon reappearing, deals more damage, travels more distance and has significantly less start-up lag.
    • Change Additionally, the re-appearance hitbox is no longer fire based, instead having a slash effect.
      • Nerf However, the re-appearance hitbox now has a sourspot that deals less damage.
  • Buff Up tilt has drastically lower base knockback, improving her poor combo game, but does much less damage.
  • Nerf Up aerial deals less knockback than in Brawl.
  • Change Down throw now has fire graphics added to its magic graphics, similarly to Ness's down throw.
    • Buff It now send opponents at a 100° angle, which give up new follow-ups options, however it does significantly less damage.
  • Change Forward tilt has new visual effects to match its slash effect.
    • Nerf It no longer sends opponents backwards, removing its combo potential with her back Lightning Kick and neutral aerial
  • Change Zelda has gotten a new air dodge animation and sidestep pose. The former is now a pose similar to Zero Suit Samus's air dodge's pose and the latter now resembles Peach's.
  • Change Zelda's up taunt has a different animation.
  • The following moves appear visually unchanged:
    • Neutral attack
    • Down tilt
    • Forward smash
    • Back aerial
    • Pummel
    • Back throw
    • Light Arrow
    • Side/down taunt
    • Rolling animation

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS trophy descriptions

Zelda's regular trophy can be obtained by completing Classic Mode and her alternative trophy can be obtained by completing All-Star mode.

Zelda
This is the namesake of the Legend of Zelda games. Her appearance may change, but she always plays an important role. In Smash Bros., she's quick on the draw when it comes to magic, though a bit slow when moving. She has a new move that summons a Phantom to her aid.
Zelda (Alt.)
Zelda's forward air attack, Lightning Kick, is a valiant kick with a magically charged tip. Striking with just the glowing spot will deal heavy damage and launch your opponent. Din's Fire, her explosive side special, can be guided up and down and has a greater blast if the button is held.
