A Cucco (コッコ, Kokko) is a chicken-like creature found throughout the The Legend of Zelda series.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

Cuccos appear as items in Super Smash Bros. 4. Like Mr. Saturn, they are living throwing items that wander around and have no effect if they are thrown and hit nothing. Should one be thrown and hit an opponent, the item will activate and summon several other Cuccos from offscreen, which each jumps onto, then off of, the stage, dealing 1% to 4% damage per hit and light knockback, often in rapid succession, potentially dragging the character off the stage. The mob persists for about 10 seconds. they can be be attacked while walking on the stage but after taking too many hits they will become hostile and summon other cuccos to attack the fighter that attacked it and any other fighter that make contact with one will take damage. Visually, they resemble their appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Additionally, Cuccos appear in Smash Run in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS as an enemy. Here, they resemble their visual design from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and appear as 2D sprites. Normally, they are peaceful but will get hostile when attacked and summon other cuccos to attack the fighter that attacked it. When this happens, the screen will also flash red.

Origin

Cuccos are a domestic animal found in many titles in The Legend of Zelda series, starting with A Link to the Past. In some games, Link can carry Cuccos above his head to slow his descent whenever he jumped. However, Cuccos are also notorious for becoming hostile if they are attacked too often, often in the form of swarms of Cuccos flooding the screen to attack Link.
