Conversely, Glutonny's season was redeemed thanks to the second half of the year. This redemption arc began with Glutonny's trip to Mexico, where he first placed 4th at {{Trn|Smash Factor X}} losing only to his bracket demons Sonix and Shuton, while conversely defeating Tweek and MkLeo. He followed this event up with a 2nd-place finish at {{Trn|Delfino Maza 2023}}, where he lost to Sparg0 in a game 5 set. These two events effectively prepared Glutonny for his run at {{Trn|Tera}}: although he lost to Sparg0 again in winner's semi-finals, he tore through the losers bracket, defeating Bloom4Eva in a surprising 3-0, then Light 3-1, and finally winning his runback against Sparg0 3-2. He then dismantled Tweek in the first set of grand finals 3-0, and fought a strenuous set in the reset, ultimately defeating Tweek in a clutch banana-to-waft in game 5 to win the event. Not only was Glutonny able to defend his home continent and win a supermajor, but he became the only player in the second half of the year who was not a Four Horseman to win a major with a Four Horseman in attendance. This was confirmed on the [[LumiRank 2023]], where Glutonny was ranked 5th, only being outranked by the Four Horsemen.

Glutonny is a French Smasher with a career that spans over a decade. He is known for being one of the best, if not the best, Wario players in three different Smash titles, as well as one of the greatest European Smash players.

Glutonny began competing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where he was considered a prodigy and the best Wario player in Europe. He was one of two Wario players to win a major, winning Bushido Brawl Impact over Ally, who in 2010 was considered one of the best players in the world. Despite his skill, he rarely made any tournament appearances outside of France, and as such was never ranked on the SSBBRank.

Glutonny gained further recognition in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, where he continued to play Wario. Most of his Smash 4 career was in Europe, where he regularly placed highly at Europe's largest events, including winning Albion 2, the second-largest European Smash 4 tournament, and placing 3rd at Smashdown World, where he defeated invaders kameme and ANTi. He began traveling more in the tail end of Smash 4, achieving several respectable performances internationally such as 3rd at Glitch 5 and 13th at Get On My Level 2018. Due to these achievements, he is widely considered the greatest Wario player of all-time, as well as the second-best European player of all-time; although never ranked on a normal PGR, he was eventually ranked 70th on the PGR 100.

Following the end of Smash 4, Glutonny has seen even more success in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where he is considered the greatest Wario player of all-time and the greatest European player of all-time, being the undisputed best European player from the game's beginning to 2023. He especially dominated Europe in the early metagame and was the highest-placing European at every non-local event he attended between Delfino Razzia Ultimate and Mainstage 2021. In addition to having six major wins under his belt, he is one of three players who have won majors in all three of Ultimate's major regions, alongside Tea and Zackray.

Tournament history[edit]

The Newcomers[edit]

Glutonny first started to attend tournaments in 2009 at the age of 13. Due to his young age, he was unable to attend events alone, and would travel with his brother, Karma. They often teamed in doubles and were dubbed "the newcomers".

Despite his age, he became one of the best players in Europe. For his first regional tournament at Bushido Impact 8, he became the first Wario player to place top 8 at a French Brawl tournament. He 3-stocked Leon, the best Brawl player in France at that time, twice during the tournament, and would ultimately finish in second place, losing to Kaos in Grand Finals. From then on, Glutonny would consistently place in the top 3 at French tournaments.

On a national level, he gained international recognition for defeating Ally, the second-best player in the world at that time, twice to claim victory at Bushido Brawl Impact in 2010. He only made one appearance outside of his home country - SKTAR in 2012. Although he placed a respectable 17th, he claimed victory over "Captain Atomsk," one of the best King Dedede players in the world, in a best-of-5 money match. Despite these accomplishments, he was not ranked on any iteration of the SSBBRank due to not attending any tournaments in America in 2013 or 2014.

Europe's hidden boss[edit]

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U released in Europe in November 2014, and for the first few years of the game's competitive lifespan Glutonny's tournament activity remained mostly in France. He continued to play Wario despite the character's nerfs from Brawl, and despite seeing frequent top 2 placements in his country, he failed to make any notable impact on the larger European scale. In fact, he often fell to Europe's best players at that time, including losing to J.Miller at Mars 2016, being double eliminated by Mr.R at Cannes Winter Clash 2016, and being double eliminated by IxisNaugus at Neokan Party 2. Even in France, he was often competing for the top position with other players, first with Phogos, then with Elexiao following Phogos's declining activity. Nevertheless, his consistently strong placements in tournaments led many to consider him a hidden boss, which he would prove with his 5th place finish at Syndicate 2016, defeating J.Miller and S1 along the way.

It wouldn't be until Smashdown World in November 2016 when Glutonny had his first big break in the wider scene. Entering the tournament as the 10th seed, Glutonny surprised the competitive scene by defeating kameme 2-1, and following it up with a 3-2 victory over ANTi. Although he fell to komorikiri and ANTi in the runback to place 3rd, Glutonny had outplaced every European player in the tournament, and was also the only European who defeated a foreign invader. This performance was impressive not only because of his victories over EVO 2016's runner-up and CEO 2016's champion, but also because it was done with Wario, a character that had been falling off in the metagame. With this performance, many players began considering Glutonny as the best Wario player in the world.

2017 was overall a slow but steady rise for Glutonny. Following a mediocre 9th place finish at BEAST 7 after being upset by M and KillerJawz, Glutonny attended the heavily-stacked 2GGC: Civil War, his first international appearance since 2012. However, he underperformed at the tournament and place 65th, his worst placement in any offline Smash tournament to date. Despite these setbacks, Glutonny achieved new career highs, notably placing 1st at MARS 2017 by double-eliminating Fatality, and claiming victory at his first national-level event at Albion 2, the second-largest European Smash 4 tournament. With strong performances in several other tournaments that were outside France, people began to see Glutonny as the second-best European player behind Mr.R.

Europe's rising star[edit]

Following his victory at Valhalla in 2018, Glutonny secured a trip to Midwest Mayhem 11. Unlike Civil War, Glutonny had a rather impressive run and notably won a nail-biting game 5 against Darkshad, ultimately placed 9th. He followed that tournament up with Get On My Level 2018, his first appearance at a Canadian tournament, where he placed 13th, defeating Fatality again as well as DSS. His final notable appearance in America would be at Glitch 5, where he defeated Pink Fresh en route to a 3rd place finish, his best placement at a non-European event up to that point. Back in Europe, Glutonny used signature Wario, Cloud, and even Donkey Kong to dominate the continent for the rest of Smash 4's lifespan, placing 1st at almost every tournament he attended, including the finale of the European Smash 4 Pro Circuit. His achievements outside of Europe and victories over several top 50 players cemented Glutonny as a player capable of making the PGR, and by the end of the year, Glutonny was ranked 70th on Panda Global's ranking of the 100 best Smash 4 players of all time, the second-highest European player on the ranking.

Europe's best player[edit]

Thanks to the buffs Wario gained from his transition, Glutonny dominated the European scene throughout the beginning Ultimate’s competitive lifespan. From the beginning of the game up to October 2021, Glutonny never placed below any other European player offline, winning every European tournament he attended aside from Stunfest 2019, the weekly Smash4Glory #6, Ultimate Fighting Arena 2019, VCA 2019, and Temple: Hermès Edition; in the five tournaments, he fell to players outside of Europe: Shuton for the weekly, MkLeo for the next three, and Tea for Temple. As a result of this performance, he was ranked 1st on the European Smash Rankings in 2020.

On an international level, however, Glutonny had a shaky start. Although he came into GENESIS 6 with high hopes, he was knocked into loser's bracket right before top 64 by ImHip in a set that started a brief struggle against Olimar. He made a respectable loser's run, notably defeating Marss along the way, before falling to Tweek in Losers Round 4, placing 17th. At his next American appearance, 2GG: Prime Saga, he fell to Zan right before top 128. He once again made another respectable Loser's run, defeating T along the way, but fell to Light just outside of top 8. Although these placements were fantastic, they were nevertheless somewhat underwhelming for a player who dominated the European scene.

His last two major tournaments finally showcased his true potential. At CEO 2019, he defeated top American players such as Cosmos and WaDi en route to a 5th place finish, his first top 8 placement at an American tournament. Although Glutonny developed a bracket demon in Dabuz, who he fell to twice at the tournament, he overcame it at Albion 4, the final major tournament of the first season. Glutonny ran through the entire tournament without dropping a set until Grand Finals, where Dabuz reset the bracket. Despite this, Glutonny defeated Dabuz in the second set, successfully defending his home continent to the elation of European players in attendance. For his continued success in Europe as well as a solid performance on a national level that culminated in his victory at Albion 4, Glutonny was ranked 14th on the Spring 2019 PGRU, the highest-placing European on the ranking.

The second season brought even more success to Glutonny. Throughout the season, he placed in the top 8 for every tournament he attended aside from Mainstage, including a 3rd place at EVO 2019 - the largest smash tournament of all time - and 5th place at 2GG: Kongo Saga, where his Wario ditto with Tweek was acclaimed for bringing out the true potential of top-level competitive play in Ultimate. Furthermore, he was one of 3 players to take more than one set off of MkLeo, doing so at Ultimate Fighting Arena 2019 and VCA 2019. Although he developed an additional bracket demon in Tweek, his consistent performance on a national level as well his continued dominance in Europe allowed him to rise up to 8th on the Fall 2019 PGRU, making him the second European player after Mr.R to be ranked in the top 10 on a Panda Global Rankings power ranking.

After having his best season yet, Glutonny began the third season with similar success, placing 7th at the first major of the season, GENESIS 7, where he infamously defeated Nairo with a zero-to-death waft combo in the final game. Despite placing 17th at Frostbite 2020, players were anticipating great things from Europe's best player. However, the COVID-19 pandemic halted the momentum as offline competitive play was completely shut down. Glutonny made the transition online alongside many other top players, however he entered many tournaments playing secondaries such as Wolf and Donkey Kong. Although it led to a couple of mediocre results, notably a 129th-place finish at Pound Online, he nevertheless still performed well, particularly during the seventh Wi-Fi Warrior Rank season, where despite being affected by region-locks he was ranked in the Area 51 position.

Cracks in his dominance[edit]

During the online period, Wario lost some of his notorious waft conversions in Patch 11.0.0, leading many players to dismiss Wario as a shell of his former self. With the offline period returning, players were wondering whether Glutonny would be as dominant in Europe as he was before, due to the nerfs and Glutonny treating the online metagame less seriously. Glutonny erased all of these doubts by continuing his dominance as if nothing had happened; throughout 2021, Glutonny won 12 tournaments with over 100 entrants. He placed first at Ultimate WANTED 3, his first national victory in over a year, as well as 2nd at Temple: Hermès Edition, where despite being sent to Loser's early by AndresFn, he made a grueling Loser's run and defeated European invaders such as LeoN and KEN before falling to Tea. Internationally, Glutonny placed 9th at Mainstage after 3-0ing ESAM and nearly won CEO 2021, but was ultimately double-eliminated by Kola.

However this period wasn't without its downsides, as Glutonny's hold on the European scene began to crack. The first crack was at Helios Session 3 in July, where he was double-eliminated by Nitox, placing 3rd; this loss, however, was overlooked by many players due to the nature of the tournament and Glutonny's choice to sandbag as Marth for its entirety. The second crack was at the weekly Dōjo #7 in October, where he was double-eliminated by Raflow, the first time Glutonny failed to win a European tournament while playing Wario. The final crack in that year was at VCA 2021 in November, where Glutonny was upset by Tropped before Top 64 and was defeated by Peli in Grand Finals, the first European national that a European other than Glutonny won, and marking the beginning of Glutonny's struggle against Sonic players. Glutonny's final notable tournament of 2021 was also an underperformance: at the Smash World Tour 2021 Championships, he barely made it out of his round robin pools after being upset by BassMage and Tilde, and lost to his bracket demon Shuton in the Championship Bracket, ultimately placing 13th.

These shortcomings ultimately resulted in a weird season for Glutonny. Despite ranking 9th on the OrionRank Ultimate: Eclipse, this placement was questioned by some as Glutonny did not have a single win on anyone else in the top 10; this placement remained the only time a player was ranked top 10 without a single win on the rest of that season's top 10. Conversely, even in spite of the cracks in his season, Glutonny was still regarded as the best player in Europe, ranking 1st (in the S+ tier) on the PGRUContenders Europe.

Holding on in a changing metagame[edit]

Despite having a weaker year than before, many players still expected a lot from Glutonny in 2022. His initial results, however, were not promising. Glutonny's hold on Europe continued to falter, as in the first quarter of 2022, he failed to win a single European tournament. Despite being smaller tournaments than GENESIS 6 and Frostbite 2020, Glutonny tied his worst placement at two WANTED super regionals: Saint Valentin Edition and Free Agent Edition. His performances internationally were also rather disappointing: despite finishing top 12 at both Glitch - Infinite and Collision 2022, Glutonny gathered no wins over players that were considered top 20.

However, one tournament did stand out during this period: Smash Ultimate Summit 4. Many players at the invitational noted how much of a threat Glutonny was during friendlies, and he proved their words correct by placing first in his round robin pools, defeating both Light and MkLeo in the process, two players he hadn't fought since the second season. Although he eventually fell to Tweek and MkLeo to place 5th, his victory over two of America's best players gave hope to players that Glutonny still had it in him.

And he certainly had it in him, as following a trip to Mexico where he practiced with MkLeo, he started seeing his best performances yet. His first major was the Mexican invitational Delfino Maza RETA 2022, where despite being upset in Round Robin pools by AlanDiss, he took out both Maister and Sparg0 before falling to MkLeo and Sparg0 in the runback, placing 3rd. His second major was GENESIS 8, where not only did he defeat Light and Sparg0 yet again, but also Kola and Zomba, players who had defeated him earlier in the season. Unfortunately, his incredible run was cut short by MkLeo, who easily defeated him prior to top 8 and in Grand Finals. However, Glutonny got his revenge the following week at his third major, Pound 2022, where he defeated MkLeo for the second time that season en route to his path to Grand Finals. Although MkLeo defeated him 3-1 in the first set of Grand Finals, which included a three-stock in the final game, Glutonny held on and defeated MkLeo in the second set. This event was not only his first major victory at an American tournament, but also began Glutonny's winning streak over MkLeo that lasted for their next seven sets. Although the rest of his season was weak in comparison - including yet another 17th-place after going 1-2 at e-Caribana - his path in April, which included defeating bracket demons, rising stars, and familiar foes, and culminating in his victory at Pound, erased any doubts on Glutonny's abilities as a player; for the first half of the year, he was ranked 6th on the OrionRank Mid-Year 2022, 3rd on the PGRU v3 NA, and 1st on the PGRU v3 EU.

The second half of the year saw continued success internationally, with Glutonny placing 4th at Super Smash Con 2022 and 5th at Smash Ultimate Summit 5. He not only continued his winning streak over MkLeo, who he defeated at both tournaments, but also took his first ever set over Tweek in the former tournament, and improved his head-to-head against Sparg0 and Dabuz. Although his performance at the Ludwig Smash Invitational and Scuffed World Tour were not as hot, he nevertheless had decent runs, defeating Tweek again in the former and rising star Miya in the latter. Despite these positives, Glutonny continued to falter against his bracket demon Shuton and gained a new bracket demon in the form of Sonix, who defeated him twice at Ludwig Smash Invitational.

However, this consistency was not reflected in Glutonny's domestic performances. For the rest of the season, he failed to win a single tournament aside from a few locals and Shonen WAR 1. In addition, Glutonny gained yet another bracket demon in the form of Bloom4Eva, who eliminated Glutonny at COLOSSEL 2022 and double-eliminated him at VCA 2022; Bloom4Eva's continued success in Europe and record over Glutonny led many to consider Bloom4Eva as the new best player in Europe. Finally, Glutonny saw yet another poor run at the invitational L'Odyssée - Chant I, where he went 1-2, losing to Mr.R and Gackt and failed to make it out of his Round Robin. He did, however, have one notable performance at Ultimate Fighting Arena 2022, where after falling to HIKARU's Donkey Kong, Glutonny made a strong loser's run, defeating Bloom4Eva for the first time and winning the runback against HIKARU to face Tea in Grand Finals. Glutonny adopted a more patient playstyle than usual, allowing him to go up 2-0, however, Tea switched to Kazuya and defeated Glutonny in a reverse 3-0. Nevertheless, this was arguably a brief return to form for Glutonny in Europe.

Overall, Glutonny's lukewarm results in Europe brought down his entire season, and he was ultimately ranked 15th on the inaugural UltRank, which ranked his performance from the second half of the year. However, thanks to his outstanding performance in April as well his decent record against some top 10 players, Glutonny was ultimately ranked 9th on the OrionRank 2022, which ranked his performance from the entire year.

In an interesting twist, the 2023 season seemed to be an opposite of Glutonny's 2022 season: while Glutonny's best performances of the 2022 season took place in the first half of the year, his best performances of the 2023 season took place in the second half of the season. That's not saying Glutonny's performances in the first half were terrible. He still placed top 8 at every major he attended aside from Battle of BC 5, where he placed 9th, and defeated several top 10 players such as MkLeo, Tweek, and Light. In addition, Glutonny began winning events in Europe again, including winning King Of Fields 95 3, the only European major in the first half of the year. However, the 2023 season became one of the most competitive seasons yet, especially with Japan's meteoric rise since the online era and the beginning of a separation between the "Four Horsemen" (acola, Sparg0, Sonix, and Miya) and the rest of the top level. Unfortunately, Glutonny's profile was not as competitive as other players ranked top 10: not only was King Of Fields 95 3 the smallest major of the first half of the year, but he did not have a single win on any of the Four Horsemen. As such, Glutonny was only ranked 11th on the LumiRank Mid-Year 2023.

Furthermore, Glutonny continued to have trouble against Bloom4Eva, even briefly conceding Europe's throne to him after losing to him at both Shonen WAR 2 and Invasion: April 2023. Although Glutonny was able to defeat Bloom4Eva at ICARUS 2023, their record that season still remained in Bloom4Eva's favor. As such, some players expected Bloom4Eva to outrank Glutonny on the upcoming European PR. Ultimately, Glutonny maintained the top spot on the European Ultimate Power Rankings 2023.01, in part because of his international performances being stronger than Bloom4Eva's.

Conversely, Glutonny's season was redeemed thanks to the second half of the year. This redemption arc began with Glutonny's trip to Mexico, where he first placed 4th at Smash Factor X losing only to his bracket demons Sonix and Shuton, while conversely defeating Tweek and MkLeo. He followed this event up with a 2nd-place finish at Delfino Maza 2023, featuring a game-4 comeback against KEN which many have considered one of the greatest comebacks in Ultimate, where he lost to Sparg0 in a game 5 set. These two events effectively prepared Glutonny for his run at Tera: although he lost to Sparg0 again in winner's semi-finals, he tore through the losers bracket, defeating Bloom4Eva in a surprising 3-0, then Light 3-1, and finally winning his runback against Sparg0 3-2. Additional strong and consistent performances, such as winning the B+ tier ReWired Fest 2023, placing 2nd at Rise 'N Grind 2023 losing only to Miya, and only losing to the Four Horsemen at Watch The Throne, as well as inconsistent performances from the rest of the top 10, led many to believe he was the best non-Horsemen player of the season, even after a misstep at Port Priority 8, where Glutonny lost to BeastModePaul and Tea to place 17th. This was confirmed on the LumiRank 2023, where Glutonny was ranked 5th, only being outranked by the Four Horsemen.

Complementing Glutonny's strong international performances was the return of his dominance domestically. After he bested Bloom4Eva at ICARUS 2023, Glutonny only lost to him at one other event, Tech Republic VII, and even then Glutonny was still able to defeat Bloom4Eva in winner's finals and the reset; he ultimately ended the 2023 season with a 4-3 record over Bloom4Eva. In addition, for the rest of the year after ICARUS 2023, Glutonny won every European event he attended save for Cora Cup Nancy, where he failed to take a single game off Raarchyor's Sora. This streak included Ultimate Fighting Arena 2023 the third and final European major of the year, meaning Glutonny had won the three largest European events of the year. As such, Glutonny was unanimously considered the best player in Europe once again, and was rightfully ranked 1st on the European Ultimate Power Rankings 2023.

Playstyle[edit]

Glutonny utilizes Wario’s Bike with great proficiency in Brawl, being resourceful as a tool to break camping and as one of his main setups for combos. Glutonny is able to play quite evasively in order to charge Wario Waft, which is supplemented with Wario’s hefty endurance to make both positives as either swindles to reverse momentum or as wincons.

In Smash 4, Glutonny emphasizes much more on Wario’s defensive capabilities, especially on Bike’s quick respawn time, enabling him to escape from opponent’s attacks or break through camping. Glutonny mixes this with Wario’s more powerful attacks and unpredictability.

Ultimate’s changes allow Glutonny to be much more flexible with Wario’s kit, using the universal jumpsquat benefit to the fullest extent, granting Wario an even more formidable aerial presence. The array of grounded moves enables him to be an extremely threatening offensive wallbreaker, while using Waft’s even greater power to maximize Wario’s vast utility options.

Trivia[edit]

  • Glutonny's tag is occasionally misspelled as Gluttony due to that spelling being a common word in English. His tag is actually a broken English variation of this word, as his tag has the same amount of t's and n's as "Gloutonnerie", the french translation of "Gluttony".
  • On August 25th, 2019, Glutonny was issued a 'bounty' on his head: the first French, Belgian or Swiss player to eliminate him from a tournament would earn €1,000 from the president of Solary, his current sponsor[1]. Zaboutine, a League of Legends coach and caster, later added €500 to the pot[2].
    • The bounty ran until the end of PGRU Fall 2019. As no one from the above-mentioned nations managed to eliminate him, Glutonny himself took the €1,500.
  • Glutonny has a deep pocket of secondaries that he often uses in winners side sets at European tournaments. He would in some events only switch to Wario after being sent to the losers bracket or after a bracket reset in Grand Finals.
    • Due to this, as well as his dominance in Europe, a common joke states that even if a player is the best European player of a character, Glutonny is probably even better.
