User Pages

I don't know if it is just on my computer, but I noticed that the user pages of those who don't have their followed list private appear messed up. Does this happen to you as well? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 13:43, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

I use the Monobook skin, so I have no idea what you're talking about. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 14:27, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
Well never mind, every one's user page is appearing fine to me now. I guess it just only happened to me earlier today. I was just making sure this new follow page function wasn't messing with the appearance of everyone's userpage. I asked you this since you seem to me knowledgeable about computers and related subjects. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 20:44, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

Pros and Cons

Am I allowed to make a pros and cons page on here? (64.252.4.222 13:53, May 9, 2010 (UTC))

What do you mean? If you mean pros/cons sections on character pages, then no, since we moved away from that format a while ago. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 14:31, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

Edits

First of all Nayru does not exist in the games nor will she ever and she does not use the move. And tell me how you know that is the correct name? If not you will just have to change it back. AmyPinkRose May 10 2010 11:51

And either way the Mario chacters do have ages according to when they were created like for example Sonic is 15 on the official sonic website. plain and simple AmypinkRose May 10, 2010 12:02 P.M.

By the way: I was wondering if u wanted to help recreate the deviantart wikia, the others hav got all the inappropiate content out and now wit just the main page, and how the heck do i get to events 31-50 on SSBM? AmyPinkRose May 10, 2010 12:08

  1. You have apparently never played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, played SSBM, or seen the Dojo!!. In OoT, Nayru's Love is a spell granted to Link that makes him immune to damage via a blue crystal. Zelda's neutral special is the same idea and is referred to as Nayru's Love both on one of her two SSBM trophies an on her page at the Dojo!!.
  2. Yes, Sonic has an officially-defined age. I have no problem with that. But Nintendo has never stated how old the Mario crew is (and probably never will). So, their ages are undefined. Yes, you could consider how long it's been since their creation as characters, but you can't call that an age - Rosalina first appeared just over two years ago, but you'd never say she's two years old.
  3. Clearing events is the main way to unlock new events, but you also have to unlock characters and complete other single-player modes.

Coin Launcher

Nice names for the Coin Launcher objects but is it just coincidence that they all begin with the letter P? Also out of curiosity, where did you derive the name Pirouettes from? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 02:00, May 14, 2010 (UTC)

It's certainly no coincidence, in fact I took to the thesaurus to pull Pirouettes once I realized everything was coming up P's (the initial idea being "Rollers"). Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 03:09, May 14, 2010 (UTC)

Help

Can you help me move Tech to Ukemi? Ukemi is the official term, so it should be moved to it. Mr. Anon (talk) 19:43, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

SmashWiki:SmashWiki_is_not_official Shadowcrest 20:10, May 15, 2010 (UTC)
I thought that policy was only there to protect pages that had unofficial names, like Sex Kick. However, Tech has an official name, so shouldn't the article go by that name? The article can still adress it as a tech, but the title should be the official name. Mr. Anon (talk) 20:21, May 15, 2010 (UTC)
If you read the policy page, you see that "Tech" vs "Ukemi" is given as an example of when to use the non-official term as an article's name. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 20:30, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Why did you delete my forum

How come you deleted my forum and who moved it to an article? Doc King (talk) 23:06, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

8 Blast Lines?

I remember a while back when I made an edit to the Star KO page about how in Brawl if someone is KOd at the upper blast line while magnified on the left or right side of the screen, they are KO normally instead of star KOd. You reverted the edit because you believed Brawl had 4 diagonal blast lines added. Trusting your knowledge, I believed you. But it is only in my nature to test this out for my self. So I went to training mode and picked the Bridge of Eldin. In the center of the stage, Samus's dair KOs Dedede at 190%. When I went to side of the stage where Dedede was magnified, he was still KOd at 190%. When went the farthest I could before Dedede was Kod by touching the side blast lines, he was still KOd at exactly 190%. If there were diagonal blast lines, an meteor smash with high knockback scaling should have KOd Dedede at least 1% sooner. But he was KOd at the absolute edge of the screen at the exact percentage as from the center of the stage. As this test shows, my edit was correct and Brawl still has 4 blast lines.

I also tested to see if a character's damage meter does go above 999%. So I went to Vs. Mode and brought Jigglypuff to exactly 999% with Wolf's pummel then I hit her with Luigi's u-tilt. Her launch speed was 40937. Then I brought her up to 999% again then hit her exactly 100 more times with Wolf's pummel. When hit her with Luigi's u-tilt this time, her launch speed was still 40937. In conclusion, the game continues to register damage for damage given and received past 999% but the character's damage meter does not exceed 999%. As such, Luigi's sourspotted Super Jump Punch can never KO unless the opponent is at or above the upper blast line. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 18:46, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Both tests seem valid. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 22:04, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Shield Damage

Thanks for revising and expanding the article by adding those attacks that have the effect to a small degree and providing the values for them. Out of curiosity, how did you find those values? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 18:35, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

By using Project Smash Attack. In the version I found, the value for base knockback (mislabled as knockback growth) is a 32-bit number (8 digits of hex). Only the last four digits are used for the actual base knockback value - the first four digits are the shield damage value. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 19:00, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
So I see you are learning how to use Project Smash Attack. Speaking of Project Smash Attack, could you use it to look into Charizard's dair to see if it is really a meteor smash that is stronger on grounded opponents or like some of the special meteors, if it produces a different and stronger hitbox on grounded opponents? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 20:42, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
PT's Pokémon and Dedede (possibly among others) cannot be read by the version of PSA I'm using. However, I do know a bit about this kind of stuff, so I can maybe use a hex editor to manually pull things out. But I won't bother until I've catalogued everyone (see here for the dirt on Mario) for two reasons - to try and find a newer version, and to simply learn more about this stuff . Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 01:02, June 12, 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, does this mean that the old way of documenting movesets is now obsolete? Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 10:31, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

Not really, other than Zeldasmash being throughly unhelpful. "Your chart page" is throughly unhelpful, as I have at least 9 pages with charts on them. Also, if a comment is that old, it's probably too outdated to be relevant. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 21:16, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
I just wanted to put them in your chart that is still in progress . I can help you with that. (I still like the letters though). It will make it look better. Zeldasmash (talk) 21:19, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
That page is ancient history. It has been completed as part of the character matchups page for over a year. It has just been deleted. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 21:23, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

By the way that little edit you said about me, i am really pissed off because of it. I don't completely care about the tier list on my user page. It's just my opinion. Thanks for hurting my feelings. Zeldasmash (talk) 21:26, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, okay, that was probably a bit strong. My point was that it appears that you generally do not contribute to the wiki as a whole, not that you just sit around and obsess over your userpage all day. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 21:32, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

I am sorry i caused you this much trouble, Toomai. Can we just forget about this and start over? Zeldasmash (talk) 21:34, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Because I've made the decision of whether it's going to appear. The decision itself is a secret. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 20:33, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Chart

You said that you would update the matchup chart since it has been a moth since it's last updated. It's not updated yet. Does this take long? Zeldasmash (talk) 03:06, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

I get the numbers for the chart from SmashBoards, and the topic I get them from hasn't been updated in a while. So unless I want to mush through the better part of the forums (which I don't), it's staying how it is for now. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 03:20, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

How can?

In the previous matchup chart, the matchups had a description that said "This matchup favours the character on the left 60:40" for example. Can they be edited on the new version of the template? Zeldasmash (talk) 12:43, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

The template has always done this automatically, although now instead of the wordy "this matchup blah blah blah" it just shows the ratio (such as "60:40"). You cannot change it. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 12:58, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Icons

How do you make those matchup icons? Zeldasmash (talk) 21:48, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

It's pretty simple, just manipulation of shapes and knowledge of colours. The program I use is Inkscape. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 22:27, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Brawl theme

fine, I took out the part saying it is wrong, but the translator broke more than just idioms. He/she broke tense rules that would make anyone with a Latin education cringe. I don't have the time to explain all the problems he's made, but I will explain you the most obvious case where he committed a major no-no

In Latin, "audi", from the verb audire means "to hear of" or "to listen to", is an imperative form (a command). The translator decided he didn't like that for whatever reason (even though it translates just fine leaving it as a command, as afterwards the singer is describing "famam illius" (the man of that one)) and decided to treat it as a first person perfect "I have heard". This is taking a huge liberty that extends well beyond idiomatic translation.

It is as if someone translating an English song into another language turned "Listen to this story" into an equivalent of "I've listen to this story" (completely changing the meaning)

At the moment the page says "Although the above translation is fine for idiomatic English, the translation takes many liberties with the tenses and strict verb meanings in the Latin. A more accurate translation which stays true to the Latin follows:"

What you had "Although the in-game translation is valid idiomatically, the translation takes many liberties with the tenses and strict verb meanings in the Latin. A more accurate translation follows: " is misleading, because it breaks much more than just idioms.

There once was a youtube video out there that explained all the problems with the Latin and how it went beyond idioms that I would have shown you, but apparently it has been deleted by the owner. --24.205.190.28 23:05, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

I understand what you're saying (I took a bit of Latin myself), it's just that I figured that the average person would read "Although the in-game translation is valid idiomatically..." the same as "Although the above translation is fine for idiomatic English...". It's not really important anyway; the point is that it's stating how the given translation is a "feel" translation more than a "strict" translation. I was actually referring to the block in general (permaban is a pretty big jump from 16 hours), and also your IRC discussion, which I found excessively cold and fairly nasty. Who else supported a permaban? Because I actually don't (at this point in time). I realize that my comments in IRC made it sound like I did, so I apologize for causing that misconception, but I don't feel like it was warranted right now. I really wish you had let me handle the blocking like I asked, unless you know something I don't. Shadowcrest 21:07, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

A little help here

It says in the guidelines that I should keep disscussions on my talk page. Why can't I delete them? There is a topic that I posted that is stupid and outdated that I want to get rid of. If it's my page I should have the liberty to do what I want with it. I am a member of several other wikis and they allow stuff to be taken off your talk page namely Metal Gear Wiki and Batman Wiki. (I do apologize for my comments on the weight talk page). What can I do?--B-52 (talk) 22:17, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

You can cross them out like i told you to. Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) Dp99.png 22:20, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
And like i explained before, its not your page. Its a page used to communicate with you. Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) Dp99.png 22:21, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that's about it. If you're extremely desprate about hiding something, you can move it onto a new page called "User talk:B-52/Archive 1" or something; archives are usually meant for when a talk page gets too long, but I don't think anyone would complain. Smash arena

I think we should change it back to updating every week. It gets boring having to wait so long for the next fight to come. Sir Anon the great 01:47, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

The reason it stopped updating every week was because the old operators started thinning and eventually lost interest - and once I took over, I had to keep extending it anyway because there were weeks where there were like only 4 votes. I agree that three weeks (on average) is a bit long, but I don't think it's going to improve unless we get more voters (which doesn't say anything about whether I have enough time). Basically, you do have to type everything in manually. But it's essentially just filling things in. Try copying this and filling in what you want:
{{Userbox|black|<colour of text background>|logo-background=<colour of image background>|border-color=<colour of border>|border-s=<thickness of border>|info-color=<text colour>|<image>|<text>}}

Thanks a bunch, but how do you get that vertical line thingie in there? Is it just a capital "i", or what? SonicRulz13 (Talk|Contribs) File:User SonicRulz13 sig.png 16:49, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
