Obligatory message about not feeding trolls, overriding other admin's action without consulting them (ignore this if it's false), and acting like blocking is a joke. Shadowcrest 03:01, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

Obligatory response that there was nothing harmed by that, it was a joke, OT can undo it if he has a real problem with it, and this is a wiki... Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 03:12, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
What's your point? I know the universe has some stupidass rule about srsbsns on teh intarwebz, but I fail to see why you feel the need to do useless things like the "joke" (<-- does that imply it was funny?) in the topic. What exactly do you gain by blocking people with a joke message? Given how much we bitch at people to not bring their pointless retarded shit on the wiki, I find it incredibly ironic that you not only engage in such behavior, you use the block tool to do it. Lol. Remember this conversation? I was right then, and it's the same now. Shadowcrest 22:45, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

Signature[edit]

Sorry about it being in the wrong spot. Where is it exactly? I was just trying to get it working with my custom signature code in my preferences since that's where it is in another wiki I go on the most often, and I don't know if you can change that code to work differently on different wikis. Right now at least i can just put {{Signatures/Play crazy1}} for my signature. — Play crazy1 (talk) 22:59, September 10, 2010 (UTC)

It's at User:Play crazy1/Signature. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:06, September 10, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I guess I wasn't following your page so I didn't get an e-mail. Unless you have any suggestions I'll try altering my preferences to this and changing the other wiki's signature location. — Play crazy1 (talk) 00:28, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

There was no discussion on wiki or the IRC; Megatron1 thought something was broken when he noticed the change. Toomai Glittershine Data Node 14:00, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
So, um... I have no idea what to do. Part of me wants to revert. PenguinofDeath 17:04, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
Saphire loads faster for me for whatever reason, so I was thinking that it might be that way for other people. Honestly, I would do it in monobook for everyone if we still could. Go ahead and revert if you want to, I have mine set to monobook. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 14:04, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
I've never noticed any difference in loading time, and we've had Beach as the skin for as long as I've been here, so I think it's best to stick with that. PenguinofDeath 14:59, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
Beach is ugly as sin. I'd much much much prefer sapphire, even if it doesn't apply to me personally (because lolmonaco). Shadowcrest 18:44, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
+1 Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 04:13, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
I personally like beach. Saphire just seems... unfitting. Mr. Anon teh awsome 05:02, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
To let you know, you can always choose your own skin in preferences, you don't have to use the default skin of the Wiki. So if you like Beach instead of Sapphire, just select Beach as your skin. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 05:30, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but it isn't as simple as that. In order for a skin other than the one set by the admins to appear, you must un-check the "let the admins override my choice" box, which is a global setting, meaning that all other wikis would appear in Beach, or w/e. It's more convenient to just go with what the admins set as the default, so we, the admins, should aim to set the most popular skin as the default. Given how long it's been Beach, I'm fairly certain it would be the most popular skin, which is why I reverted CHawk. PenguinofDeath 08:12, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
It being up there means nothing about it's popularity per se,. I hadn't even though about it because I use monobook. I checked the skins one day for fun and thought sapphire looked much better and loaded faster. Honestly, we've never had a discussion of this since this short tangent. Basically, we all agreed that we would just keep our skins as monobook and tell people to do the same. Like SC said, sapphire looks better, so I think we should go there, but I'm open to suggestions. Vertical endurance[edit]

Vertical endurance is vertical survivability. Smash Master 19:08, 5 May 2012 (EDT)

If you cared to read the edit summaries, you would realize that Toast already explained that to C Hawk. In the end, you still have no source for that information. MegaTron1XD:p 19:11, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
Read this, it's in the changes from SSB to SSBM section. How's that for source about Falco's vertical endurance in Melee? Smash Master 19:17, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
Basically, you're saying that it's falling speed. Cool, I don't care. "Vertical survivability" if taken in a purely semantic fashion would include not just the amount of knockback required to KO at certain percents, but also the chance of juggling/combos (and by extension escaping them). As your "source" clearly references a percent, it is referring to knockback and thus is not taking into account other factors. Nothing wrong with that, but calling it "endurance" is not what it is. If the term is not semantically and/or intuitively obvious, third party notability should be required. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:51, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
Vertical endurance is simply how long the character survives vertically, nothing other than the required knockback to KO them at the top matters.
Calling it "vertical survivability" however, is incorrect. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 03:59, 6 May 2012 (EDT)

I'd love to do it, but the real issue is that it doesn't ship with all operating systems. Anyone with Word and/or Pages will have it, but we can't always rely on that, so we'd have to make sure the formatting worked for both Garamond and its substitute (Times on Mac OSX) and that can get complicated. If we can figure it out, it would be great... Just like we have to use straight quotes instead of curly and three dots for ellipses ... “…” Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:22, 31 May 2012 (EDT)

Can I do that as well? Avengingbandit 21:10, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
If it's in Garamond on your OS, I don't need it. I'm concerned with seeing how this looks on a platform that doesn't have Garamond installed. Some will substitute times, others helvetica, and sometimes completely different fonts. If we're going to do this, I need to see how it looks in both serif and sans-serif fonts, and how the upper ASCII characters look. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 21:13, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
The Garamond font works on my Vista as well ☺ Avengingbandit 21:03, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

I think the default browser font is actually Palatino atm. I can take another in Times, if you want. DoctorPain99 {ROLLBACKER} 21:38, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
Yeah, that is Palatino I think (not Times for sure, not ugly enough…). Times is the go to for other OSX programs… That said, it looks good to my eye. The curly quotes become slanted straight quotes, but I honestly don't remember if that is just part of Palatino in the substitute package… The em dashes and ellipses look fine, so upper ASCII doesn't seem to be an issue. If anyone has a Windows and/or linux OS without Garamond installed, please screenshot my user page as well. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:22, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
Same as DP, except I'm on Windows 7. I would object to putting the wiki into Garamond, because, while it may look better than the current font, the default go-to's if people don't have it are Times New Roman and Palatino, both of which are far worse than the current font. PenguinofDeath 05:36, 2 June 2012 (EDT)
Yeah, that's the problem. I would contend that Palatino is better than our font, but that's just because I don't really like sans serifs in general. Also, for people who are viewing on inverted colors, sans do look better white on black than serifs do. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 09:46, 2 June 2012 (EDT)

I would oppose, not because of all these reasons, but because I simply prefer the regular font anyway. Garamond is quite large, and is supposed to have an aged feel, which SmashWiki should not. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 09:50, 2 June 2012 (EDT)

I don't think it's going to happen, but Garamond is actually a rather small font on the whole, while having a larger X-hight than others. Also, while its italic is one of the most beautiful, the standard isn't really angled per-se, but simply reinforcers the left-to-right focus that serifs are meant to give. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 09:56, 2 June 2012 (EDT)
Edit: Apologies for the slightly off-topic response; I miss-read aged as angled in your post. That said, Garamond isn't supposed to have an aged feel as much as it is aged. The font is hundreds of years old (1533 was the year it was designed). Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 12:54, 2 June 2012 (EDT)

CAPTCHA code[edit]

I was wondering why I had to go through the CAPTCHA page every time I edited something? Well, it's been a little longer and the CAPTCHA is still there every single time. However,
  1. I just created this account today (less than 24 hours ago)
  2. I am currently visiting China and thus accessing the wiki from a foreign IP

RD's edit summary was referencing to Brian's apparent hatred of Sakurai for only catering to casuals while being a really bad programmer or something for not appealing to the competitive people only. The summary was still a pretty bad place to take a stab at Brian's attitude, but just wanted to clear things up mate. MegaTron1XDDecepticon.png 20:42, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

If I may clarify, I meant it as a farcical jab to the more immature members of the Melee community, not strictly Brian. Regardless, I can see why my comments would be taken the wrong way (dangers of sarcasm in webtext, whoo...), and I apologise if my behaviour was less-than-ideal.

I didn't think anyone was really trying to be overtly a vandal, but I just have a problem with unfounded comparisons to Hitler and personal attacks (even if the person isn't on the wiki). You won't be able to create your userpage, or any page for that matter, until you have had an account for three days and have made at least five edits. Once you get there, however, you should be sure to take a look at SW:USER first. As an editor here, your first priority should be to help make this Super Smash Bros. information reserve better, and not just as a place to pretty up a personal profile for yourself. Got all that?
