Ganondorf (ガノンドロフ, Ganondorf) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4
Ganondorf was granted some of the most notable changes from the transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate, with a complete redesign, a boost in power and attack speed, and a reduction in landing lag. Many of his moves have altered animations and his smash attacks now involves him wielding his sword from the Spacetech 2000 demo, both of which further separate him from Captain Falcon and make him his own completely unique character for the first time in the series.
Aesthetics
- Ganondorf's appearance has reverted to his original design from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, albeit with a complete graphical overhaul to his appearance, bearing closer resemblance to his original concept art from Ocarina of Time. Additionally, his voice is reverted back to his original voice actor, with updated voice clips.
- Ganondorf's initial dash and running animations were altered.
- Ganondorf's on-screen appearance now shows him stepping out of a liquid-like vortex of darkness.
- All of Ganondorf's darkness-type moves have become significantly flashier, causing large purple explosions on hit.
Attributes
- Universal frame 3 jumpsquat significantly improves Ganondorf's ground-to-air maneuverability.
Ground attacks
- Neutral attack no longer has a sourspot.
- Dash attack's animation slightly altered.
- Up tilt has significantly faster startup.
- Up tilt now has a flame effect on Ganondorf's foot during the startup.
- Down tilt's damage was greatly increased.
- All of Ganondorf's new smash attacks involve his sword from the 2000 Spaceworld Demo. This grants them both extra range and disjointed hitboxes.
- Ganondorf has a new forward smash, a downward sword slash. Compared to the previous forward smash, it has significantly improved range, and covers overhead.
- Forward smash has more startup.
- Ganondorf has a new up smash, an overhead sword swing. Compared to the previous up smash, it has significantly improved range and duration, and covers around his body.
- Up smash has more ending lag.
- Ganondorf has a new down smash, a low sword hilt thrust forward into a stab behind him. Compared to the previous down smash, it has a much lower hitbox placement allowing it to hit low crouching opponents, and lowers Ganondorf's hurtbox. It also now sends enemies at a semi-spike angle. The hitbox on the first hit that sent opponents forward and away from the second hit was removed.
Aerial attacks
- All aerials have significantly lower landing lag (17 frames → 10 (neutral), 22 frames → 14 (forward), 19 frames → ?? frames (up/back), 26 frames → 21 (down)).
- Forward aerial's auto-cancel window was restored.
- Up aerial's animation has been altered to be a one legged kick.
- Down aerial's animation has been altered to resemble Captain Falcon's down aerial in previous games.
Throws/other attacks
- Ganondorf's grab animation was altered.
- Forward throw's animation was altered.
- Up throw's damage was significantly increased.
- Edge attack deals 2.5% increased damage (from 8% → 10.5%)
Special Moves
- Warlock Punch deals more damage and is stronger.
- Opponents can now escape aerial Flame Choke via button mashing, significantly hindering Ganoncide's utility while making it completely unsafe to use as it likely leaves Ganondorf unable to recover.
- Dark Dive deals more damage (13.8% → 17.3%).
- Opponents released by trading attacks with Dark Dive during its grab now receive 8.4% damage.
- Grounded Wizard's Foot deals more damage as it travels further and deals multiple hits near the end of the move. It also has significantly reduced endlag.
- Beast Ganon deals 12.4% more damage (40% → 52.4%).
- Beast Ganon's appearance is now that of his Ocarina of Time incarnation. Instead of slamming the ground, Beast Ganon slashes with his swords before rushing forward.
