May as well jot down some of the things I'd like to see in DLC for Smash Ultimate since basically none of it stands a chance.
Fighter | Stage | Universe | Spirits | Mii Fighter Costumes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Comments | ||||
Edelgard | Red Canyon | Fire Emblem |
I know a lot of people have been saying Byleth for a Three Houses rep, but I'd still much rather see Edelgard. Byleth would just be a Marth/Simon mix, while Edelgard would actually represent one of the many weapons in Fire Emblem that's not a sword. I'd like to see her pre- and post-timeskip designs as alternate costumes, like Ike. The Dimitri (Prince) and Claude (Heir) Spirits can be enhanced into their King and Leader versions. I think the Red Canyon would work best as a stage; I'm picturing it as looking somewhat similar to the Find Mii stage. Maybe a Demonic Beast could appear as some sort of a hazard. (Fun fact: it would be only the second Fire Emblem stage to be based on a specific location!) | ||||
Geno | Forest Maze | Mario |
...I mean, yeah. Not much to say here. I'm still really surprised that he wasn't in the base game, since Sakurai knows he's popular and has expressed interest in including him since Brawl. I actually had a harder time than I expected picking out the Spirits and Mii Fighter costumes. The Axem Ranger costume would change colors and slightly change appearance based on the Mii's favorite color, defaulting to red if the Mii's color doesn't line up with one of the Rangers. Forest Maze has been my go-to for a Super Mario RPG stage since forever; I think it would work really well. | ||||
Veronica | Aether Keep | Fire Emblem |
Okay, so this is extremely a longshot and honestly even I don't want it to happen, but I still thought it'd be fun to think about. I think Veronica and Anna are the best representatives for Heroes, since Alfonse would be way too similar to Marth and Sharena is a very secondary character (granted, so is Anna, but at least she's recognizable as an almost-mascot for Fire Emblem as a whole). Since Veronica was the original mascot and has kept up more-or-less of a presence since, I went with her. She'd be quite a bit different from Robin due to her stature and lack of a sword. Her specials would require some messing with her skills; I could see Savage Blow as a neutral special with a shockwave that increases in size the longer it's charged, while Reprisal could be the Fire Emblem-typical counterattack. She could steal Flashing Blade from her dead counterpart for her up special, warping a la Fox Illusion, while her side special could be inspired by Elivagar's secondary effect and have a Disable-like beam that drastically slows opponents caught for a couple seconds. The Aether Keep stage would be based on Aether Raids' icon; a simple floating island, roughly the size of Battlefield, with an Aether Fountain in the middle. | ||||
Cucco | Tower of Hera | The Legend of Zelda |
Probably the only character that could get me as hyped as Piranha Plant (no, I do not mean that ironically). Realistically, never going to happen, nor should it, but I think it would be hilarious and I would love to play as a Cucco. Frankly, this may be the Zelda franchise's only shot at a non-Echo newcomer. And the Final Smash creates itself. (The rest of the moveset less so, but hey, Piranha Plant got in.) I think Tower of Hera would also be a great way to represent the classic Zelda games, as well as the game Cuccos originate from -- it would take place in a room of the tower with hazards represnting some of the hazards you encounter in A Link to the Past (and potentially Between Worlds), such as Blade Traps, Bumpers, Flying Tiles, Fire Bars, and perhaps even enemies like Stalfos and Mini-Moldorms. The Old Man spirit would have his artwork from the original The Legend of Zelda, but it would still be evolved into King Rhoam. The Seven Sages spirit would consist of the sages from Ocarina of Time. | ||||
King Boo | The Last Resort | Mario |
Honestly mostly just to fix the rather peculiar absence of Luigi's Mansion 3 spirits (especially the Poltergust G-00???), but I do also think King Boo would be a neat fighter. He's a fixture in a number of Mario spin-offs like Mario Kart while also adding some much-needed representation for, obviously, Luigi's Mansion, especially as that spin-off series grows. Half of his costumes would show his Mario series appearance, while his Luigi's Mansion appearance would be the default. He would function as a large, floaty lightweight like Rosalina and I could see him having a counterattack-like move where he scares the opponent, paralyzing them and giving him a chance to retaliate, as well as other moves based on his boss fights in Dark Moon and 3. His Final Smash could summon either Boolossus or the Bowser suit from the first game. The Last Resort could either be a simple stage taking place on the roof, or (what I would prefer) a teleporting stage, stopping on several floors. | ||||
Impostor | The Skeld | Among Us |
There is zero chance that Nintendo would add a fighter based on a fad indie game that's likely to die soon, but I saw a concept for an Impostor fighter and tweaked it to make it my own and now I really just like it, so here we are. Impostor would uniquely get stat boosts based on "not exposing itself" and killing as many people as possible. At the beginning of a match, Impostor has a damage modifier that makes it harder to kill (whether by knockback or in a Stamina match). Its non-special moves are designed towards racking up damage and are bad at actually killing, while its neutral special (a gun), side special (the tongue kill animation, functioning similarly to Piranha Plant's down special), and down special (the seismic sensors sabotage, which creates an earthquake that launches foes) have really good launch power. However, once it uses its special moves (including its up special, Vent, which is a long-range teleportation that does no damage but is really good for recovering), it is "exposed" as an Impostor and its damage modifier goes away, making it easier to kill. If it manages to kill an opponent, its attack and speed are increased slightly, which stacks with each kill. If the Impostor is killed, it starts its next stock how it began the match (with no kill boosts but the damage modifier). This allows the Impostor to benefit regardless of how many opponents or stocks the match has. In a one-stock 1v1, the Impostor can just rack up damage and then land a kill with a special move. Against multiple fighters and/or with multiple stocks, the Impostor wants to get as many kills as possible to stack its stats. Lastly, the introduction tagline would be "Impostor is Among Us!" (duh) and the reveal trailer would be a recreation of Ridley's except when Samus turns around it's the Impostor and she's just left confused until it launches her. | ||||
Impa | Akkala Citadel | Zelda |
Age of Calamity is Impa's best chance to finally be a fighter, as a semi(?)-canon game that actually gives her moveset potential beyond generic ninja powers that would just make her into a Sheik echo. Her moveset could be unique like Min Min's, where the neutral attack button is weak attacks and the special attack button is strong attacks, allowing her to perform Warriors-inspired combos. I also think her unique symbol power would translate well to Smash. I was a little stuck on a stage since the game uses the same Hyrule as Breath of the Wild, but I think Akkala Citadel is a decently plot-important location that, since it's undestroyed in Age of Calamity, serves as a good representation of the game's unique take on Hyrule. | ||||
Toadette / Peachette | Mushroom Ruins | Mario |
This is the worst idea possible but hey here we are. Basically, Toadette's moveset would be based on Captain Toad and the New Super Mario Bros. games, but she can also transform into Peachette with her neutral special, who works like a weaker Peach clone. The transformation period would, ideally, be faster than Zelda/Sheik and Pokemon Trainer, encouraging rapid switching between them for combos. (Obviously there's processing issues to take into account, but hey all of this is typing anyway so who cares). The whole inspiration is theorycrafts I remember for Bowser Jr. pre-SSB4 where he was a Bowser semi-clone that could transform into a Mario semi-clone (Shadow Mario); I think having a definitively worse version of a character with the added gimmick of an additional moveset is decently cool, if a touch impractical. |
