—Introduction Tagline

Piranha Plant (パックンフラワー, Packun Flower) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was confirmed as a playable character alongside Ken and Incineroar on November 1, 2018. It will be the first DLC character in Ultimate, and is scheduled to release "probably a couple of months" after the game's December 7, 2018 launch. It will be available as a free bonus until January 31, 2019 to anyone who pre-purchases the digital version of Ultimate or registers their physical version with My Nintendo. It is not part of the Fighters Pass, but will be available for purchase separately after the January 31st date.

Attributes

An icon used in notice templates. NOTE: SmashWiki is not speculative. Please refrain from adding detailed data values derived from pre-release gameplay footage, such as the E3 demo. Such data (damage values, launch trajectories, frame data, etc.) are subject to change before the official release.
  • Piranha Plant resides in a pot, as its species are depicted in the Mario Party 3 minigame Storm Chasers and in Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 as items. It sprouts little feet when moving.
  • A reference to its basic attacks in the main Mario series games, presumably one of its taunts.
  • A taunt where Piranha Plant viciously snaps forward, similar to Bowser's side taunt.
  • A taunt where Piranha Plant spins before striking a joyous pose.

Known moveset

  • Two bites forward, presumably its neutral attack.
  • A leaf swipe down tilt.
  • A pot-first lunge dash attack.
  • Forward smash - transforms into a Spiny Piranha Plant from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and headbutts.
  • Up smash - lunges upward and bites. Appears to have two hitboxes.
  • Down smash - sweeps its pot around itself.
  • An aerial where it spins rapidly with its leaves extended, similar to Ivysaur's neutral aerial.
  • An aerial where it swings its pot upwards.
  • A pot stomp down aerial. It is a meteor smash with rather quick startup compared to other meteor smashes.
  • A headbutt forward throw, a backwards fling back throw, and an upward bite up throw. Piranha Plant grabs with its leaves and bites for its pummel.
  • A move where it spits a cloud of poison in front of it, dealing damage with seemingly no knockback or flinching. Possibly its side special. Piranha Plant changes its color to match the Putrid Piranha enemy from the Paper Mario series when executed.
  • A move where Piranha plant spits out a metal spike ball, and blows air upwards. The ball can then be blown to the left or right. Only one can be active at a time. Based on the Ptooie enemy introduced in Super Mario Bros. 3. Possibly its neutral special move.
  • A move where it spins its leaves, propelling him upward like a helicopter. Based on the Jumping Piranha Plants from Super Mario World. Presumably its up special.
  • A move where it pauses briefly before stretching out to bite an opponent. Likely a reference to Elasto-Piranhas or Stalking Piranha Plants. Possibly its down special.
  • Petey Piranha: Piranha Plant's Final Smash. As the name implies, it summons Petey Piranha, who stomps around the stage with his cages from The Subspace Emissary. Opponents that get too close will get trapped in the cages.
