Nairo is an American professional smasher who mains Meta Knight in Brawl and Zero Suit Samus in Smash 4, and is the younger brother of Ksizzle. He is known for being among the youngest, yet one of the most successful smashers to compete in tournaments, as well as being one of the top Brawl Meta Knights and the best Smash 4 Zero Suit Samus in the world. Nairo is also known for his highly aggressive Meta Knight style, which is at least partly responsible for his great proficiency against Olimar players. He frequently teamed with ADHD in doubles, where Nairo used his aggressive style to overwhelm opponents while ADHD created stage control with Diddy Kong's banana peels. The team was considered to be the most powerful doubles force in Brawl, having won Apex 2013, SKTAR 2, Apex 2014, and SKTAR 3.
Nairo (gamer)
Nairo is an American former smasher who is considered one of the best Smash players of all-time, which includes being one of the best Brawl players in the game's later years, one of the best Smash 4 players of all-time, and one of the best Ultimate players in the game's early metagame. He is Ksizzle's younger brother.

Nairo gained national recognition at Apex 2012, defeating top players such as Nietono, before losing to Otori in Winners' Finals and Nietono in Losers' Finals, placing 3rd out of 400 entrants. He won his first national tournament later that year at SKTAR, defeating ESAM in Winners' Finals 3-1 and Grand Finals 3-0. At Apex 2013, Nairo was knocked out of Winners' early by Larry Lurr, but climbed up through his Losers' bracket, knocking out Havok, RAIN, ZeRo, Mr. R, and Anti in the process. Nairo eventually faced Otori in Losers' Semis in a long-awaited rematch, but lost the set 2-3, placing 4th out of 338 entrants. Nairo saw another major victory at Apex 2014, where he defeated ESAM in a rematch from SKTAR, and other top players, such as Mew2King and ZeRo, two of the best Meta Knights in the world.
Nairo began his competitive career in Brawl playing Meta Knight, where he was known for his highly-aggressive Meta Knight style, which was at least partly responsible for his great proficiency against Olimar players. He became a strong player in the Tristate region, regularly placing top 8 at large Tristate events, before gaining national recognition for his run at Apex 2012, where he defeated Japanese invader Nietono to eventually place 3rd. He later claimed two major victories during Brawls prime, most notably at Apex 2014, which remains the second-largest Brawl tournament of all-time. In addition, Nairo frequently teamed with ADHD in doubles, where Nairo used his aggressive style to overwhelm opponents while ADHD created stage control with Diddy Kong's Banana Peels. The team was considered to be the best doubles team in Brawl, having won a slew of major doubles events including Apex 2013, Apex 2014, and Super Smash Con 2016. Following Brawls decline, Nairo was the undisputed best Brawl player from 2016 to 2019, notably winning every Brawl event he attended between CEO Dreamland and Get On My Level 2019.

Nairo is considered to be one of the best Smash 4 players in the world. At EVO 2015, he placed 3rd in forwiiu singles. He defeated Mr. R 2-0 in Winners' Semis, but then lost to ZeRo 0-3 in Winners' Finals, after almost winning the first 2 games, but missing the KO in both games after hitting with Zero Suit Samus's paralyzer. He then lost his rematch with Mr. R 2-3 in Losers' Finals. He also uses Cloud, Dark Pit, Pit, Robin, and even low tier characters such as Zelda, Lucina, and Dr. Mario at a very high level as well.
Nairo found his greatest success in Smash 4, where he won 10 different majors and is the player with the third-most Smash 4 major wins. Despite a bit of inconsistency towards the end of his Smash 4 career, he was ranked no lower than 4th on all the PGR rankings and was ultimately ranked 2nd on the PGR 100. He primarily played Zero Suit Samus and is the best Zero Suit Samus player of all-time. Outside of Zero Suit Samus, he has also used Bowser in many top-level sets and is considered the best Bowser player of all-time, and he also has plethora of other secondaries that he has pulled out at high-level play, including Cloud, the Pits, Robin, and even low tiers such as Zelda and Dr. Mario. His most well-known performance in Smash 4 was his run at MLG World Finals 2015, where he became the first player to eliminate ZeRo in a Smash 4 tournament, double-eliminating ZeRo to end his 56 win streak. This performance is often considered one of the biggest highlights of his Smash career.

He is the only player to have eliminated ZeRo in a Smash 4 tournament in 2015, ending the latter's 55 win streak at MLG World Finals 2015. After losing in Winner's Semis to ESAM 1-3, Nairo climbed through the loser's bracket, beating Mr. R 3-0, Ally 3-1, and ESAM 3-0 in Loser's Finals with a surprising character choice of Dr. Mario. This marks the first time Nairo has taken a set from ESAM in Smash 4 as well. In Grand Finals, Nairo won the first set 3-2 and won the second set 3-1 against ZeRo's Sheik and Diddy Kong, ending ZeRo's winning streak.
In Ultimate, Nairo played Palutena, although he was initially not as successful as he was in previous games, ranking outside of the top 5 for the first time in his career on the Spring 2019 PGRU. However, he eventually bounced back during the second half of 2019, eventually winning Mainstage that year and Let's Make Big Moves in the following year. He remains the only Palutena player with major wins and as such is considered one of the best Palutena players of all-time despite having only been active in the game's first year.

Nairo is currently ranked 1st and 4th on the New Jersey Smash 4 Power Rankings and Tristate Brawl Power Rankings, respectively, and also ranks 1st on the 2014 SSBBRank tied with 9B.
Outside of competitive play, Nairo was one of the most successful Smash content creators and streamers in the 2010s, with a large following on his YouTube and Twitch dubbed the "Naifu Nation". He also ran the online series Naifu Wars, which eventually evolved into one of the earliest well-known online tournament series and was known for flying out certain players for special iterations.

On August 11, 2015, Nairo was signed on by Team Liquid.
In July 2020, Nairo was accused of having a relationship with a then-underaged CaptainZack, leading to the loss of Nairo's sponsorship and bans from competitive play and Twitch. Multiple new counts of information later emerged which painted Nairo as a victim rather than an abuser, leading many to request for Nairo to be unbanned. Although a legal agreement was found in court, the controversy remains largely unresolved in the public, and several bans remained in effect, including his Twitch ban. Nairo had since quietly retired from competitive play and continues to stream on YouTube, but remains a polarizing figure in the community due to the unresolved controversy.

Playstyle
Nairo, throughout his entire Smash career, had a playstyle that was defined by unrelenting pressure and a top-notch punish game.

In Smash 4
He mained Zero Suit Samus and was known for his proficiency of her powerful up air ladder combos into her Boost Kick finisher. He pioneered her metagame and brought upon the style of aggressive pressure in order to bring her punish game into full effect. Throughout neutral, he has prowess in spacing and in the timing of her moves in order to be safe on the opponent's shield to compensate for the character's lack of neutral tools. He is also known to take risks and to make hard reads in order to quickly gain advantage over the opponent, notably with jump reads or a single grab in neutral. With the character, he has a touch of death and if there is rage and he manages to land a single hit or grab, with his ability to read DI and knowledge of kill percents, can annihilate an opponent's stock. This characteristic is highly noticed when he needs to make a comeback. Nairo is also very proficient at edge guarding and ledgetrapping, forcing his opponents into limited situations where he can take their stock.
However, due to his risky and aggressive playstyle and his character's weaknesses, he is prone to getting shut down in the neutral with no opportunity to land a hit if the opponent plays defensively and doesn't get caught in Nairo's clutch. This is heavily emphasized through the many sets against his rival ZeRo, where the latter's immoveable neutral proves to be difficult for Nairo to break through.

In Ultimate
He mained Palutena and played with heavy emphasis on combo game and edgeguarding. Some aspects of his play had been improved due to the switch of character, as now with Palutena's relatively safe grab compared to Zero Suit Samus's, Nairo had many more opportunities to access his strong punish game and to make up for his neutral. He still played Zero Suit Samus, but due to the removal of her grab and ladder combos, he used her much less often and occasionally used her as a counterpick.

Tournament history
2010-2014: The rise in Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Nairo's first competitive Smash game was Brawl, where he made himself known regionally by placing well at KTAR tournaments. However, it wasn't until 2012 where he became well-known on a national level; at Apex 2012, he defeated top players such as Nietono and ultimately paced 3rd out of 400 entrants. A few months later, he got his first national victory at SKTAR, where he defeated ESAM twice.

For the rest of Brawls main competitive lifespan, Nairo consistently placed in the top 3 and made top 8 at every tournament he attended aside from SKTAR 2. His most notable victory during that period was at Apex 2014, where he managed to defeat Mew2King and ZeRo, two of the best Meta Knights in the world, to place 1st. This victory has since been memorized in his fanbase thanks to the sub-only emote nairoApex. Due to his outstanding placements, Nairo was recognized as one of the best Brawl players in the world by the end of the game's lifespan and subsequently was ranked 1st on the 2014 SSBBRank, being tied with 9B.

Despite Brawls decline and his focus on other Smash games, Nairo continued to enter Brawl events and dominate the metagame, with a win streak starting with CEO Dreamland and ending with Get On My Level 2019. He was ranked 1st on the next two iterations of the SSBBRank.

2014-2015: Continued Success in forwiiu
In the early metagame of Smash 4, Nairo initially played Robin at a few 3DS events  and eventually added Dark Pit to his roster, first using him at Sky's Smash 4 Invitational where he placed 7th and took a notable win over Larry Lurr. Eventually, he picked up Zero Suit Samus, using her at CLASH Online Invitational Finals and Final Battle in conjunction with both Pit and Dark Pit.

His strong results continued in 2015 using Zero Suit Samus alongside a few different secondaries such as the aforementioned Robin and Pits and even lower-tiered characters such as Zelda, placing 9th at Apex 2015, 7th at KTAR XII, and 3rd at EVO 2015. EVO 2015 was a notable event in particular as it became the best solo-Zero Suit Samus result seen in Smash 4 at the time and he played against the best Smash 4 player in the world, ZeRo, who defeated him in winners.

After this tournament, the two would compete against each other often and ZeRo would become a notable bracket demon for Nairo, double-eliminating him at both CEO 2015 and The Big House 5 where he placed 3rd and 2nd, respectively.

It wasn't until MLG World Finals 2015, where Nairo took out ZeRo in winners top 32 and they would rematch in grand finals where Nairo won, taking the tournament. Nairo's win was arguably one of the most historical moments in Smash 4 history, as it broke ZeRo's 56 tournament win streak and would be the only time ZeRo lost a tournament during 2015. Nairo's strong results continued as he garnered 1st place finishes at a multitude of regionals such as Smash the Record 2015, KTAR XIV, KTAR XV, Dismantle 2, and KTAR XVI.

By the end of the year, he was in contention for best Smash 4 player in the world, ranking 2nd on the PGR v1, the first ever global Smash 4 ranking.

His winning streak ended at GENESIS 3, as he was upset 2-0 by Hyuga in pools. Despite being eliminated early on, he made a strong losers run. He defeated players such as RAIN, Ito, ESAM, Ally, and Marss before Dabuz eliminated him 3-0, placing 5th overall.

2016-Early 2017
In 2016, he continued his strong results, although he had a few lower placings, most noticeably with Pound 2016. This was his worst placement in a Smash 4 tournament to date, losing to saj and Mr.II, placing 49th. However, this did not mean much as a month later, he placed 4th at Get On My Level 2016 where he notably competed against MkLeo for the first time where Nairo ultimately won the set. He also won at MomoCon 2016, beating Ally in grand finals and not dropping a single set throughout the entire tournament.

This pattern continued to happen throughout the year, missing out on top 8s at some of the biggest events of the year with 17th at CEO 2016 and 13th at EVO 2016, but in the same summer, won Super Smash Con 2016, taking out multiple top players such as 6WX, VoiD, Mr.R, and Dabuz without dropping a single set.

Afterwards, his consistency in overcoming top players and making top 8s at multiple majors improved, finishing 4th at Umebura S.A.T. defeating Mr.R and Kameme, 3rd at 2GGT: Abadango Saga defeating komorikiri and VoiD, and 7th at The Big House 6 defeating Salem and Cosmos.

In the last two months of 2016, he made back-to-back 4th place finishes at KTAR XIX and UGC Smash Open, and ended the year with a 5th place finish at 2GGT: ZeRo Saga. While started with some rough patches at the beginning of the year, a supermajor win in Super Smash Con 2016 and his latter half year consistency solidified him as top 3 player of the year, placing 3rd on the PGR v2.

Nairo became a much stronger player in 2017, as after his 17th placement at GENESIS 4, he won both Umebura Tokaigi Qualifiers and Niconico Tokaigi 2017, defeating Ally and many top Japanese players such as KEN, Abadango, and Kirihara.

Not long after, he placed 3rd at Frostbite 2017 fighting through many top players such as Dabuz, WaDi, and Shuton. He only lost to ZeRo who double-eliminated him, but was a much cleaner major run in comparison to GENESIS for Nairo.

After Frostbite 2017, the next major tournament Nairo attended was 2GGC: Civil War. This tournament was and remains one of the most stacked tournaments in Smash 4 history. Unfortunately for Nairo, he missed out on top 8, losing to Fatality in the midst of his Cinderella run and lost to Locus in losers, finishing at 9th.

From April to May, he attended about four of the next majors, placing 3rd at CEO Dreamland defeating Dabuz and Marss, 7th at Royal Flush, and an unusual 17th at 2GGC: Greninja Saga, getting upset by Mekos before top 64 and had his losers run put to an end by CaptainZack.

Despite underperforming at Greninja Saga, in typical Nairo fashion, he would come back blazing seen with MomoCon 2017. He was able maintain his champion title from last year's event, most notably winning his runbacks against ZeRo and Fatality to take the tournament.

The next two supermajors, 2GGC: Nairo Saga and CEO 2017, he would make back-to-back 4th place finishes. At the titularly named tournament, he lost to ZeRo and Salem. At CEO 2017, he managed to win his runbacks against CaptainZack and Salem before losing to Larry Lurr and MkLeo.

Unlike the past two years, the PGR ranking was split between the two halves of 2017. He maintained his spot at number 3 on the PGR v3, possibly missed out on recapturing his 2nd best in the world status from 2015 due to the couple of underperformances of the year such as GENESIS 3 and Greninja Saga as well as the prominent rise MkLeo saw around the same time. Regardless, it was a very strong six months for Nairo's competitive play altogether.

Remainder of 2017
The next season for him started with a 2nd at regional Midwest Mayhem 9, getting upset by Tyroy in top 8 qualifiers and made a lengthy losers run beating players such as Tweek before being eliminated by ZeRo in grand finals. This tournament would follow into the next supermajor of the year, EVO 2017, where Nairo would place 5th after grabbing wins over Abadango and VoiD with losses to Larry Lurr and Tweek in their runback.

Nairo later attended DreamHack Atlanta 2017 and took out multiple top players such as CaptainZack, Ally, Dabuz, ZeRo and a runback against Larry Lurr. However, both of two losses came from Salem, a player who was notably on a bit of a hot streak after winning EVO 2017, giving him a placement of 4th.

With the two losses to him and his EVO win, Salem started to rival Nairo as the second-best Smash 4 player of 2017 and the two would be neck and neck with each other. Nairo would find his own tournament win that combated Salem's EVO win with Super Smash Con 2017. After an upset by Rideae, Nairo went on a lengthy losers run defeating a immense caliber of players such as komorikiri, Tweek, VoiD, Mr.R, and MkLeo before double-eliminating ZeRo in grand finals.

In terms of consistency between the two players, Nairo would outperform him at tournaments such as the next supermajor of the year, 2GGC: MkLeo Saga and another major in Shine 2017 where Nairo placed 4th and 3rd respectively whereas Salem would place 9th and 4th. On occasion, they would sometimes even tie seen with GameTyrant Expo 2017 where they both placed 9th. Conversely, Salem would outplace him at events such as The Big House 7 and invitational 2GG Championship, placing 5th and 3rd whereas Nairo would finish at 9th and 10th place. The two also met at grand finals at both 2GGC: Fire Emblem Saga and Smash 4 Boot Camp, the latter being another invitational done by VGBootCamp. Ultimately, Nairo would lose to Salem at both of these tournaments.

With Smash 4 Boot Camp finished, the rest of the 2017 season was wrapped up as well. Nairo would end up as the 3rd best player of 2017 on the PGR v4, as Salem was placed as new 2nd best with both of them similarly being outclassed by ZeRo.

2018: The Last Year of Smash 4 and Slight Decline
Following ZeRo's retirement, Nairo was one of the contenders for the number one spot alongside MkLeo. At GENESIS 5, despite falling to Legit before Top 8, Nairo was able to make an impressive losers run, defeating Zenyou, ESAM, and MVD before falling to Mistake, placing 4th. After that, Nairo continued to be a tough competitior for the throne, as he consistently placed in the top 4 at every major he attended, even claiming victory at tournaments such as Niconico Tokaigi 2018 and Smash Masters League: Battle for Vegas, defeating MkLeo at both. MkLeo, in turn, defeated Nairo at both SwitchFest and Get On My Level 2018. For the first few months of the season, it wasn't clear whether MkLeo or Nairo would come out on top.

However, Nairo eventually fell behind, placing 17th at the two biggest tournaments of the season: 2GG: Hyrule Saga and CEO 2018, losing to Light and Mr.R in the former and Abadango and Elegant in the latter. Due to those placements, Nairo was ultimately ranked 4th - the first time he was not top 3 - behind MkLeo, Tweek, and Dabuz, players who had a more consistent season.

Nairo's overall performance continued to decline as he fell to MVD and Zenyou at EVO 2018, placing 33rd, his second worst placement at a Smash 4 major. Furthermore, Nairo failed to defend his title at both MomoCon 2018 and Super Smash Con 2018, breaking his two-year win streak at both events. At MomoCon 2018, he was defeated by Salem and komorikiri, placing 4th, and at Super Smash Con 2018, he was defeated by MkLeo and Cosmos, placing 5th.

With Ultimate on the horizon, Nairo stopped attending major tournaments after Super Smash Con 2018.

These shortcomings, however, did not overshadow Nairo's previous achievements. When the PGR 100 was released, Nairo was ranked the 2nd best Smash 4 player of all time, right behind ZeRo.

2018-2019: Transition into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
In the early metagame of Ultimate, Nairo continued his status as a top player. He switched his main to Palutena while occasionally using Zero Suit Samus as his secondary. He quickly became known as the best Palutena player, placing 2nd at both NYXL Pop-Up! and Glitch 6, as well as 5th at Let's Make Moves, defeating players such as MkLeo, Samsora, and Dabuz along the way.

His best performance of the first season was at Collision 2019. Despite being sent to losers by Marss right before top 8, Nairo teared through the losers bracket, defeating Mr.R, Sinji, Tweek, (in a famous reverse 3-0 with Ganondorf), and Frozen, before resetting the bracket against Marss. He lost the reset, placing 2nd.

However, his overall initial results, while impressive, weren't as good as his Smash 4 days. Similarly to the first season of 2018, Nairo placed 17th at the 2 biggest majors of the season, GENESIS 6 and Smash 'N' Splash 5, falling to Cosmos and CaptainZack in the former and VoiD and NAKAT in the latter. Although he continued to consistently make top 8 at big tournaments, his only major victory was at the comparatively-smaller major Suplex City Smash while his strongest performances were a 4th place finish at 2GG: Prime Saga and a couple of 5th place finishes at both Get On My Level 2019 and MomoCon 2019. Nairo continuously fell to familiar foes, most notably Marss. By the end of the season, Nairo was ranked 8th, the first time he was not ranked in the top 5 in any global ranking.

Fortunately, things turned around for Nairo in the second season. Despite starting off the season with a 17th at EVO 2019, losing to Mr.R and Marss, Nairo made top 6 at every tournament he attended up until the final major of the season 2GG: Kongo Saga. In addition, he started winning sets against several of his bracket demons, such as Marss at Shine 2019 and Mainstage. His best achievement was finally claiming victory at a major, doing so at Mainstage, where he defeated MkLeo after he reset the bracket, becoming one of 6 players to defeat MkLeo that season. When the season was over, Nairo returned to the top 5, being ranked 4th.

2020: The Last Year of Competition
Nairo started the third season strong, having claimed his second victory at a super major at Let's Make Big Moves, defeating top players such as Maister, Tea, Kameme and double eliminating Dabuz after he sent Nairo to losers.

Following this, he would place 9th at GENESIS 7 and Frostbite 2020. In the former, he was defeated by ESAM in the winners quarterfinals and infamously lost to Glutonny in the losers side top 8 qualifier. In the latter, he was defeated by Tweek in the winners quarterfinals and subsequently eliminated by MkLeo in the losers side top 8 qualifier.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nairo only made appearances at the Soaked Series Invitational and tournaments in The Quarantine Series, citing a dislike for Ultimate online.

Sexual misconduct allegations, ban, and repudiation of allegations
On July 1st, 2020, amidst a wave of sexual harassment and assault allegations in the community, a rumor began spreading that Nairo and CaptainZack had a sexual encounter. Initially, both brushed it off, with CaptainZack stating that he made it up to impress his friends. However, the next morning, CaptainZack released a Twitlonger where he confirmed the rumors, saying that it happened when he was fifteen and Nairo was twenty, and that he was paid by Nairo to stay silent about the situation. Following this, Nairo deactivated his Twitter account and his brother Ksizzle confirmed that "Nairo is done." Nairo eventually reactivated his Twitter and posted a statement apologizing for his actions, saying that he would no longer be active on social media. He deleted his social media accounts but created a protected dummy account that had his original Twitter username of NairoMK.

The allegations sparked an overwhelming amount of backlash against Nairo, as many people who looked up to him before were disappointed in his actions. In the early morning of July 2nd, Nairo was dropped by his long-standing team NRG. Following this, the 2GGaming panel banned Nairo from all of their future events, alongside several others accused of sexual misconduct during this time. Twitch also banned and unpartnered Nairo on September 10th.

The allegations were brought into question after several statements from CaptainZack's TwitLonger, including the hush money, were revealed to be manipulated information following Tamim (aka Mistake)'s TwitLonger on September 14th. Furthermore, on October 28th, Nairo released a more detailed statement refuting CaptainZack's side of the story, claiming that he had woken up to Zack forcefully performing oral sex on him (which was corroborated by Tamim's statement), that he had briefly froze before pushing Zack off, and that Zack had blackmailed him into one other sexual encounter as well. He ended his statement saying that he had an attorney in case Zack continued to push his case, and that he was also seeking therapy for the trauma caused by Zack. Nairo also stated that he had a 30-page document with evidence for the entire situation which several other players, including Cosmos and VoiD, have confirmed. As a result, a number of players started to recant their disapproval and advocate to lift the ban.

On February 19th, 2021, Nairo uploaded an update video, stating that everything was resolved and that he was considering returning to streaming, understanding that there would be people who'd be apprehensive towards his return. Following Nairo's statement and multiple social media movements by the community to unban Nairo, tournament organizations 2GGaming and Collision lifted Nairo's ban from their events after processing his appeal, while the Super Smash Bros. Global Ban Database also took his name off of their list. In spite of this, Twitch has yet to overturn their ban on Nairo, which also put a hold on any possible tournament activity since other Twitch channels could get in trouble for featuring someone banned from the platform on stream. As such, Nairo has resumed streaming on YouTube since April 8th, 2021.

However, Nairo continues to be a polarizing figure in the community, owing to his admission of making willing sexual contact with a minor when he was an adult, and the fact that his bans were repealed despite other figures in the community remaining banned for similar transgressions. As a form of protest, YouTuber Technicals entered Double Down 2022 and held up a sign saying "Ban Nairo"; after being escorted out by security, Technicals disguised himself as a woman and had a verbal fight with GimR over Nairo's continued restreams of VGBC content despite his ban, which he secretly recorded. Technicals went on to discuss the incident in a video he posted in October 2022, arguing that the community was engaging in favoritism and was not being consistent in its bans, seeing as Nairo was welcomed back, while ZeRo, who saw a legal resolution with his case in the previous month, continued to be shunned by the community. YouTuber thefranChise stated in a video he published a month later that Nairo that had made suggestive remarks to CaptainZack in public before this incident occurred, with a photo from after the incident occurred showing them huddled together despite the reportedly abusive slant of their relationship. Furthermore, despite the legal resolution of their dispute, their remains no public documentation of their legal affairs, with thefranChise comparing it unfavorably to the situation involving ZeRo and Jisu, with the lawsuit and resolution being public, and questioning the continued secrecy of Nairo's evidence document if the case is resolved.

Trivia
Trivia
*Interestingly enough, despite his older brother Ksizzle having been known to be one of Ally's hardest opponents to play in tournament during his prime, Nairo failed to take a set from Ally in Brawl singles for four years despite having surpassed his brother since then. However, at Apex 2015, Nairo managed to beat Ally in tournament for the first time in Winners Semis, although he ultimately ended up losing both sets of Grand Finals to Ally.
*Nairo, along with Ally, are the only competitive players to have won a major in three different Smash games before their retirements, with wins in Brawl, Smash 4, and Ultimate.
*Starting with SKTAR in 2012, Nairo held a perfect record against ESAM in Brawl for three years. However, at Super Smash Con, ESAM finally defeated Nairo for the first time and went on to Grand Finals only to lose to Mew2King.

*Nairo is the first person to ever eliminate ZeRo from a tournament in Smash 4 since the latter began his streak, thereby ending the ZeRo's 55 tournament streak at MLG World Finals 2015 in a bracket reset, coming up from Losers' after taking out ESAM, Mr. R, Ally, and various others. He reset the bracket in Grand Finals 3-2, and then won the second set with a 3-1 victory.

*KTAR XVII was Nairo's worst placing in a Smash tournament since Apex 2010 (where he placed 25th), clocking in at 17th place after getting upset by Salem's Bayonetta 2-0 (with Nairo using Zero Suit Samus Game 1 and Bayonetta Game 2) and losing 2-1 to Dabuz in a Bayonetta ditto.
*Pound 2016 was Nairo's worst placing in a Smash tournament, getting 49th place in forwiiu singles after getting sent to losers bracket by Saj's Bayonetta, and being eliminated by Mr.II, a Japanese Robin player, in a huge upset.

Nairo is an American former smasher who is considered one of the best Smash players of all-time, which includes being one of the best Brawl players in the game's later years, one of the best Smash 4 players of all-time, and one of the best Ultimate players in the game's early metagame. He is Ksizzle's younger brother.

He later claimed two major victories during Brawl's prime, most notably at Apex 2014, which remains the second-largest Brawl tournament of all-time. Following Brawl's decline, Nairo was the undisputed best Brawl player from 2016 to 2019, notably winning every Brawl event he attended between CEO Dreamland and Get On My Level 2019.

Playstyle[edit]

Nairo, throughout his entire Smash career, had a playstyle that was defined by unrelenting pressure and a top-notch punish game.

In Smash 4[edit]

In Ultimate[edit]

He mained Palutena and played with heavy emphasis on combo game and edgeguarding. Some aspects of his play had been improved due to the switch of character, as now with Palutena's relatively safe grab compared to Zero Suit Samus's, Nairo had many more opportunities to access his strong punish game and to make up for his neutral. He still played Zero Suit Samus, but due to the removal of her grab and ladder combos, he used her much less often and occasionally used her as a counterpick.

Tournament history[edit]

2010-2014: The rise in Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

For the rest of Brawl's main competitive lifespan, Nairo consistently placed in the top 3 and made top 8 at every tournament he attended aside from SKTAR 2.

Despite Brawl's decline and his focus on other Smash games, Nairo continued to enter Brawl events and dominate the metagame, with a win streak starting with CEO Dreamland and ending with Get On My Level 2019. He was ranked 1st on the next two iterations of the SSBBRank.

2014-2015: Continued Success in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

2016-Early 2017[edit]

Remainder of 2017[edit]

2018: The Last Year of Smash 4 and Slight Decline[edit]

Ultimate[edit]

Despite being sent to losers by Marss right before top 8, Nairo teared through the losers bracket, defeating Mr.R, Sinji, Tweek, Light (in a famous reverse 3-0 with Ganondorf), and Frozen, before resetting the bracket against Marss.

2020: The Last Year of Competition[edit]

Sexual misconduct allegations, ban, and repudiation of allegations[edit]

On July 1st, 2020, amidst a wave of sexual harassment and assault allegations in the community, a rumor began spreading that Nairo and CaptainZack had a sexual encounter. Initially, both brushed it off, with CaptainZack stating that he made it up to impress his friends. However, the next morning, CaptainZack released a Twitlonger where he confirmed the rumors, saying that it happened when he was fifteen and Nairo was twenty, and that he was paid by Nairo to stay silent about the situation.[1] Following this, Nairo deactivated his Twitter account and his brother Ksizzle confirmed that "Nairo is done."[2] Nairo eventually reactivated his Twitter and posted a statement apologizing for his actions, saying that he would no longer be active on social media.[3] He deleted his social media accounts but created a protected dummy account that had his original Twitter username of NairoMK.[4]

The allegations sparked an overwhelming amount of backlash against Nairo, as many people who looked up to him before were disappointed in his actions. In the early morning of July 2nd, Nairo was dropped by his long-standing team NRG.[5] Following this, the 2GGaming panel banned Nairo from all of their future events, alongside several others accused of sexual misconduct during this time.[6] Twitch also banned and unpartnered Nairo on September 10th.[7]

The allegations were brought into question after several statements from CaptainZack's TwitLonger, including the hush money, were revealed to be manipulated information following Tamim (aka Mistake)'s TwitLonger on September 14th.[8] Furthermore, on October 28th, Nairo released a more detailed statement refuting CaptainZack's side of the story, claiming that he had woken up to Zack forcefully performing oral sex on him (which was corroborated by Tamim's statement), that he had briefly froze before pushing Zack off, and that Zack had blackmailed him into one other sexual encounter as well. He ended his statement saying that he had an attorney in case Zack continued to push his case, and that he was also seeking therapy for the trauma caused by Zack.[9] Nairo also stated that he had a 30-page document with evidence for the entire situation which several other players, including Cosmos and VoiD, have confirmed.[10][11] As a result, a number of players started to recant their disapproval and advocate to lift the ban.

On February 19th, 2021, Nairo uploaded an update video, stating that everything was resolved and that he was considering returning to streaming, understanding that there would be people who'd be apprehensive towards his return.[12] Following Nairo's statement and multiple social media movements by the community to unban Nairo, tournament organizations 2GGaming and Collision lifted Nairo's ban from their events after processing his appeal,[13][14] while the Super Smash Bros. Global Ban Database also took his name off of their list.[15] In spite of this, Twitch has yet to overturn their ban on Nairo, which also put a hold on any possible tournament activity since other Twitch channels could get in trouble for featuring someone banned from the platform on stream. As such, Nairo has resumed streaming on YouTube since April 8th, 2021.[16]

However, Nairo continues to be a polarizing figure in the community, owing to his admission of making willing sexual contact with a minor when he was an adult, and the fact that his bans were repealed despite other figures in the community remaining banned for similar transgressions. As a form of protest, YouTuber Technicals entered Double Down 2022 and held up a sign saying "Ban Nairo"; after being escorted out by security, Technicals disguised himself as a woman and had a verbal fight with GimR over Nairo's continued restreams of VGBC content despite his ban, which he secretly recorded.[17] Technicals went on to discuss the incident in a video he posted in October 2022, arguing that the community was engaging in favoritism and was not being consistent in its bans, seeing as Nairo was welcomed back, while ZeRo, who saw a legal resolution with his case in the previous month, continued to be shunned by the community.[18] YouTuber thefranChise stated in a video he published a month later that Nairo that had made suggestive remarks to CaptainZack in public before this incident occurred, with a photo from after the incident occurred showing them huddled together despite the reportedly abusive slant of their relationship.[19] Furthermore, despite the legal resolution of their dispute, their remains no public documentation of their legal affairs, with thefranChise comparing it unfavorably to the situation involving ZeRo and Jisu, with the lawsuit and resolution being public, and questioning the continued secrecy of Nairo's evidence document if the case is resolved.

Trivia[edit]

  • Nairo, along with Ally, are the only competitive players to have won a major in three different Smash games before their retirements, with wins in Brawl, Smash 4, and Ultimate.
  • Between 2011 and 2015, Nairo failed to take a set from Ally in Brawl singles for four years, However, at Apex 2015, Nairo managed to take a set off Ally for the first time in winners semifinals, although he ultimately lost both sets to him in Grand Finals.
  • Starting with SKTAR in 2012, Nairo held a perfect record against ESAM in Brawl for three years. However, at Super Smash Con 2015, ESAM finally defeated Nairo for the first time and went on to Grand Finals only to lose to Mew2King.
    • Ironically, in Smash 4, ESAM had a perfect record against Nairo. However, at MLG World Finals 2015, Nairo beat ESAM for the first time in Smash 4 in Losers Finals.
  • Pound 2016 was Nairo's worst placing in a Smash tournament, getting 49th place in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U singles after getting sent to losers bracket by Saj's Bayonetta, and being eliminated by Mr.II, a Japanese Robin player, in a huge upset.
  • Nairo was featured on Road to EVO: Nintendo Minute along with VoiD and D1. The video has since been made private.
  • Nintendo released a short Player Perspective video covering Nairo's run at EVO 2019; this video was also made private.
  • Nairo competed in the Super Smash Bros Ultimate World Challenge Cup that took place during the Nintendo Live 2019 event in Kyoto as part of the Dream Team. His participation has since caused official coverage of the event in general to be either made private or edited.
  • Nairo is known for his frequent trash-talking in his YouTube content, especially against his stream snipers or "bots".
