Jtails is a former professional Smasher from New York who now resides in California. Considered a high level Meta Knight player in Brawl, Jtails's popularity grew through his competitive character guides series on his YouTube channel. Jtails was one of the first notable Diddy Kong mains in Smash 4, winning early Tristate regionals, including KTAR XI against Mew2King and KTAR XII against Dabuz, though his results would decline after that and he would never come close to competing at top level again. Despite his decline in results, he would remain a very strong player through Smash 4's competitive life. He was formerly ranked 6th on the New York Smash 4 Power Rankings and 91st on the 2014 SSBBRank.
Jtails was signed on by SoaR Gaming in 2019 and was one of the first Smash players to represent Smash Brothers in a competitive shooter dominated team.
Although he competed and has been to many event like EVO, Genesis and CEO, Jtails' main popularity comes from his Youtube channel and simple to follow tutorial videos like his Movement Guide Video. After his retirement his main focus was coaching and continuing educational content for Smash Ultimate. Through his coaching he's been able to take various players from the casual level to getting ranked top 10 in their city.
On June 17th, 2019, Jtails announced his retirement from competitive Ultimate after EVO 2019.[1]
Tournament History[edit]
2008 - 2014: Humble Beginnings with Super Smash Bros Brawl[edit]
Jtails started out in Smash Bros Brawl as a Ness main. Though he became notable in the New York City scene, his wide scale notoriety began once he picked up Metaknight and Diddy Kong in tandem.
At this point he placed within the top 45 of most majors he entered, not often beating notable players but always making it out of pools. The most notable placing was 25th at Apex_2012.
He continued to compete locally and place top 3 through Brawl's decline.
2014 - 2015: The First Diddy Kong in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]
With an explosive start on the 3DS winning KTAR X, beating the likes of Nairo, Nakat, and other East Coast threats, Jtails carried this win streak over to the Wii U version as well. Most players were surprised to see this since they didn't expect these results to continue on console.
Jtails was one of the first players to shine the spotlight on Diddy Kong being such a strong character, which later led to Zero picking him up. Jtails went on to win KTAR XI against Mew2King and KTAR XII against Dabuz in 2 sets of grand finals coming from losers. For a long time Jtails was one of the only players to have a positive record on Dabuz in Smash Wii U.
Although he was a Diddy Kong main in Brawl, initially Jtails didn't like the character. It wasn't until he fought Leffen online that he decided to give the character a second look. After a brief talk with Leffen and more time into the character, Jtails realized just how strong Diddy Kong was.
After Diddy Kong got nerfed for the second time, Jtails' results began to decline. This led to a lot of pressure, especially since Zero's results remained constant. At this point Jtails focused more on being a content creator rather than a "serious" competitor.
2018 - 2019: A Decade is a Long Time Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
At the start of Ultimate Jtails opened up strong at Don't Park on The Grass in Seattle, WA, placing 7th in Singles and 2nd in Doubles with Koss. This was the first major event for the game.
His results began to taper off, and shortly after he announced his retirement from competitive Ultimate after EVO 2019. The balance of being a content creator, coach, and competitor was just too much time and focus spread too thin. This led to less practice time and more focus on getting a paycheck which then affected results. At this point Jtails sought to focus on content creation for the game and teaching others how to reach the level that he reached over time.

Controversy[edit]
On June 30th, 2020, artist Wolfiisaur published a tweet speaking out about Jtails, alleging that Jtails began grooming her at 16 years of age. In the screenshots, Jtails is seen offering kisses and massages to 16 year old Wolfiisaur. After the allegations were posted, Jtails posted an apology and gave other details about the situation on his Twitter account. [2]
Additionally, Smasher Rachow, Jtails' ex-girlfriend, published a tweet alleging their relationship began online when she was underaged. [3]
Then, Streamer Retro Ali published a tweet alleging Jtails' would use Skype to message and groom minors. [4]
Not long after, on July 2nd, Smasher Ash published a tweet about her experience as another victim of Jtails grooming behavior.[5]
Jtails released a statement, July 2nd, on Twitter addressing the allegations, apologizing, and announced that he would be promptly deactivating his Twitter and leaving the Smash scene after.[6]
Jtails made an additional statement on his Youtube channel on February 22nd 2021, where he stated that he spoke with lawyers and that "nothing illegal took place". He has since then said he is moving forward with his life but will not return to the Smash community.[7]
